Paycom describes its HCM platform as payroll-first software in which payroll, HR, time and labor, talent management, and compliance use one database. The intended benefit is less duplicate data entry and less reconciliation between separate systems. Beti adds an employee-guided payroll review before submission. These are Paycom’s descriptions of its platform and workflow—not an independent audit of the database or a guarantee of error-free payroll.
What Paycom means by “single database”
Paycom presents its platform as a payroll-first HCM system: payroll is the foundation, with HR, time and labor, talent management, and compliance built around it. In Paycom’s description, those functions use the same database rather than separate products that must continually synchronize employee records. See Paycom’s HCM software overview.

The practical aim is to avoid entering the same employee information in multiple systems and reduce reconciliation between them. A shared database does not, by itself, prove that every workflow is unified or that an organization will have no imports, integrations, errors, or implementation work. Paycom’s public product materials describe the architecture and its intended benefits; they do not independently establish how a particular customer configuration will perform.

Beti is Paycom’s employee-guided payroll experience. Paycom says it uses live employee data to start payroll, alerts employees and managers to outstanding tasks, and lets employees review pay details, address issues, and approve pay before payroll is submitted. The stated sequence moves some review and correction earlier in the pay cycle; it should be understood as a product workflow, not a promise that payroll will be error-free. See Paycom’s Beti overview.

For a buyer, the key question is how this workflow operates with the organization’s actual approval rules. Ask which paycheck inputs employees may review or change, which changes require manager or payroll approval, and how unresolved tasks affect submission. A demo should show the complete process rather than just the employee-facing review screen.
What the reported efficiency results do—and do not—show
Paycom cites a 2023 Forrester Consulting Total Economic Impact study commissioned by Paycom. For a modeled composite organization based on interviews with Paycom clients, the study reports 90% less labor to process payroll, 85% less time spent reviewing and correcting payroll errors, and more than 2,600 hours saved per year for HR and accounting teams. Paycom’s Beti page also describes an 80% efficiency gain for HR and accounting processing payroll in connection with the study. These are modeled results, not guaranteed outcomes for every customer or a forecast of what a particular buyer will achieve.

- Used Book in Good Condition
The distinction matters when evaluating a business case: a composite organization is not the same as your workforce, pay schedules, jurisdictions, timekeeping inputs, or approval process. Review the Forrester Consulting study and ask the vendor to explain which assumptions and operating changes would apply to your configuration. Estimate potential savings using your own current payroll workload and error-review effort rather than applying the study percentages directly.

What to verify before choosing Paycom
A single-database claim is only one part of an HCM buying decision. Compare the work that still crosses system boundaries, the roles employees and managers play in payroll review, the jurisdictions and worker types supported, and the implementation and service terms.
Rank #3
- Authoritative employee data: Ask which fields become authoritative in Paycom and which workflows still depend on imports or integrations, including benefits, timekeeping, and accounting.
- Imported time and exceptions: Have the vendor demonstrate how rejected records, missing punches, retroactive adjustments, and approvals are handled. This is especially important for multi-state payroll or imported time data.
- Review and approval permissions: Confirm which employees can review or change paycheck inputs before submission and which changes require manager or payroll approval.
- Coverage: Validate the states, countries, legal entities, worker types, and pay schedules in your proposed configuration. Paycom’s enterprise page says it processes native payroll in Canada, Ireland, Mexico, and the U.K. in the same database as U.S. operations; confirm current coverage and the exact services required for each country directly with Paycom.
- Implementation and support: Get the implementation scope, customer responsibilities, support expectations, and ongoing fees in writing.
- End-to-end demonstration: Ask for a complete pay cycle using representative job types, schedules, jurisdictions, and deductions from your organization.
These questions reflect common operational concerns, not evidence of a product defect. For example, a public discussion title asks about a complex multi-state setup and imported time; that is one anecdotal prompt for due diligence, not evidence that Paycom generally struggles with those cases.

Do not compare products only by whether each vendor calls its system integrated or unified. Ask vendors to map the actual process from employee record changes through time approval, payroll calculation, employee review, submission, and accounting output. Then compare the handoffs and responsibilities you would retain.
- Are payroll and HR functions in one database, or separate products connected by integrations?
- Which data must be imported, synchronized, or reconciled across time, benefits, and accounting workflows?
- Can employees identify and address pay issues before submission, and what approvals remain with managers or payroll staff?
- Which states, countries, entities, worker types, and pay schedules are supported for the configuration being quoted?
- What implementation, support, and ongoing service scope is included?
- What is the total quoted cost for the tools and services your organization needs?
Paycom’s pricing page says costs vary by workforce size and selected tools and services; the reviewed page does not provide a standard price. Request an itemized quote for your actual scope rather than assuming a public list price. See Paycom’s pricing information. Treat vendor comparisons and performance claims as claims to validate against each provider’s current documentation and a configuration-specific demonstration. Paycom’s enterprise overview describes its enterprise scenarios and international payroll coverage, but those vendor-published statements should also be confirmed for the proposed setup: Paycom enterprise solutions.
