Path of Titans Server Requirements: RAM, CPU and Hosting Explained

Alderon requires a dedicated Windows or Linux machine for self-hosting Path of Titans, yet publishes no server-specific RAM or CPU minimum. This guide separates player specs from server sizing and explains setup, configuration, networking and managed hosting decisions.

Short answer: Alderon Games requires a self-hosted Path of Titans community server to run on a dedicated machine using Windows or Linux, but its official hosting documentation does not publish a minimum RAM amount, processor model, core count or CPU benchmark for the server. The 16 GB minimum and 32 GB recommendation on Alderon’s PC-specification page apply to playing the game, not hosting it. Your practical choice is therefore between sizing a dedicated machine for your expected workload and buying a managed Game Server Provider plan whose resource and slot limits are stated clearly.

What Alderon officially requires

Alderon’s hosting guidance makes one hardware requirement explicit: self-hosting needs “a dedicated machine running Windows or Linux.” Dedicated means the computer is available to keep the server process online; it is not necessarily a particular brand, processor generation or amount of memory.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The official setup material explains how to obtain and update server files, configure a server and use either Windows or Linux. In the material reviewed, it does not specify a server RAM floor, a recommended CPU, a minimum number of cores, storage capacity, or a player-count benchmark. Consequently, any precise claim such as “8 GB is enough” or “four cores support 100 players” would be an unofficial estimate rather than an Alderon requirement.

Alderon also recognizes a second route: purchasing hosting from a Game Server Provider (GSP). A provider supplies the always-on machine and usually wraps management tools around it; you still need to check exactly what resources, slots, locations, backups and support are included in the plan you buy.

How much RAM does a Path of Titans server need?

There is no published official server-specific RAM number to use as a guaranteed minimum. Alderon’s September 22, 2025 PC-support article lists 16 GB of RAM as the minimum and 32 GB as the recommendation for playing Path of Titans on a PC. That page concerns the player client. It does not size a dedicated server, so those figures must not be presented as server requirements.

Memory demand depends on the workload you create. The variables worth measuring are:

  • Concurrent players: a busier server generally keeps more session and world state in memory.
  • Mods and maps: community content can add assets and processes beyond a basic configuration.
  • Database arrangement: the setup guide documents local and remote database choices, which can change where memory is consumed.
  • Operating-system overhead: Windows or Linux needs memory in addition to the server process and any database.
  • Other services: backups, monitoring, web panels, voice chat or unrelated applications compete for RAM.

For self-hosting, start with a machine that leaves headroom after the operating system and the server are running, then watch memory use during a realistic busy period. If available memory remains consistently low or the operating system begins paging to disk, move to a larger machine or remove competing services. This is a sizing method, not an officially validated player-to-RAM formula.

What CPU do you need to host a Path of Titans server?

Alderon’s public server instructions reviewed here do not name a processor, clock speed, core count or benchmark score. A server recommendation such as a particular Intel or AMD model therefore cannot be called an official requirement.

CPU load is affected by the same workload factors as memory, especially simultaneous players, simulation activity, mods and database work. A machine that is also compiling software, encoding video or running several virtual machines can become CPU-constrained even when the game server itself is modest.

When evaluating a machine or a provider plan, look for:

  • Dedicated or clearly allocated CPU resources rather than an unspecified shared allowance.
  • Consistent single-thread performance as well as enough total cores for the operating system and supporting services.
  • Monitoring that exposes CPU usage and load during peak play.
  • A way to change plans if sustained load or tick-time problems appear.

Do not infer capacity from the configuration example MaxPlayers=100. That value demonstrates a configurable cap; it is not a statement that every four-core or 16 GB machine can sustain 100 players.

Can you host a server on your gaming PC?

Only if that computer functions as the dedicated Windows or Linux host Alderon describes. Running the game client and the server on one desktop is technically different from providing a separate, always-available server. The combined workload consumes CPU, RAM, storage and network bandwidth, and shutting down the desktop or starting a demanding game interrupts the community server.

For a small private session, a spare computer may be a practical experiment if you can keep it powered, updated and reachable. For a public community, use a separate machine or a managed provider so game play, reboots and personal use do not compete with server uptime.

Checks before using a home machine

  • Confirm that Windows or a supported Linux distribution can stay patched without unexpected restarts.
  • Reserve sufficient upload bandwidth and verify that your internet service permits inbound game traffic.
  • Configure the router and firewall for the server’s required ports, then test from outside your home network.
  • Use a stable power source and plan what happens after a power cut or router reboot.
  • Keep authentication tokens and database credentials out of public configuration files and chat.

Self-hosting versus a Game Server Provider

Alderon presents both approaches for community servers. The difference is who owns the machine and who performs the routine operations.

Decision area Self-hosted machine Game Server Provider
Hardware You supply a dedicated Windows or Linux computer and its storage, power and network connection. The provider supplies the server; the plan should state allocated CPU, RAM and storage.
Installation and updates You download and update files with AlderonGamesCmd and maintain the operating system. The provider may offer an install workflow or panel; confirm who applies game and operating-system updates.
Networking You handle port forwarding, firewall rules, public reachability and changing home IP issues. The provider normally supplies a public network endpoint, but included ports and protection vary by plan.
Administration Maximum control over files, databases, scripts and restart policy, with all troubleshooting on you. Less infrastructure work, in exchange for panel limits and dependence on the provider’s support process.
Backups You design, store and test backups yourself. Backups may be scheduled, retained for a stated period or sold as an extra; verify the terms.
Cost pattern Up-front hardware, electricity and internet costs, plus your time. Recurring hosting charge; check renewal pricing, resource changes and cancellation rules.

Choose self-hosting if you are comfortable with Linux or Windows administration, router configuration, updates and recovery. Choose a GSP if predictable uptime and a support channel matter more than controlling the underlying machine. Before paying, confirm the region, player-slot limit, CPU/RAM allocation, mod support, database access, backup schedule, support hours, renewal price and cancellation policy.

What the official setup process involves

Alderon’s setup wiki documents a Windows path and a Linux path. The Linux instructions were tested on Ubuntu 22.04; other distributions or versions may differ. Use the live wiki for the exact command syntax because arguments and supported architectures can change.

  1. Prepare the host. Install a supported 64-bit Windows or Linux environment, apply security updates and create a dedicated account for the server. Do not run the Linux server as root.
  2. Obtain AlderonGamesCmd. Download the command-line tool specified by Alderon and place it in a directory reserved for server administration.
  3. Select the server files. Run the tool with arguments that identify the Path of Titans server files, the desired branch, your authentication token and the installation directory. Copy the current argument names from Alderon’s setup guide rather than relying on an old command snippet.
  4. Use the production branch unless you have a reason not to. Alderon recommends production for most servers; test branches can change and may be unsuitable for a public community.
  5. Assign a unique GUID. Each server needs its own GUID. Reusing an identifier can cause registration or identity conflicts.
  6. Choose database placement. The guide documents local and remote database options. Select one deliberately, restrict access to it and include it in your backup plan.
  7. Configure network access. Open only the required firewall and router ports, forward them to the host and test reachability from an external connection. Keep the server’s administrative interface private.
  8. Start and test privately. Confirm that the process launches, authenticates, writes logs and can be joined before advertising the address. Check CPU, memory, disk and network use while several testers connect.
  9. Document recovery. Record the install location, branch, GUID, database details, firewall rules and restart procedure. Store tokens securely and rotate them if exposed.

Configuration, player slots and mods

Community owners can change settings including the map, player cap, password, reserved slots, chat and gameplay options through configuration files. The wiki states that edits require a server restart before they take effect.

MaxPlayers=100 appears in the documentation as an example configuration value. Treat it as a cap you may set, not as a capacity guarantee. Raise a cap only after observing stable CPU, memory, network and database behavior with the intended population. A lower cap can be the correct choice for a machine that prioritizes consistent performance.

Network and availability issues to plan for

Port forwarding and NAT

The traditional self-hosting flow described by Alderon uses dedicated server software and port forwarding. A host behind carrier-grade NAT, a locked-down campus network or a router that cannot forward ports may be unreachable even when the server process is healthy. Ask your internet provider for a public, reachable address or use a hosted machine when home networking cannot provide one.

Home uptime

A public server needs more than adequate hardware. Schedule operating-system maintenance, monitor disk space, keep the router firmware current and arrange automatic startup after a power failure. Test that the server returns after a reboot instead of assuming it will.

Latency and region

Place the machine near the majority of your players and measure latency from their actual regions. A powerful host in a distant location can feel worse than a smaller host nearby. Provider listings may advertise a region, but confirm the physical location and network route before committing.

What changed in Alderon’s self-hosting plans?

In a May 2026 developer blog, Alderon described work toward easier player-device self-hosting and NAT punch-through. The post discussed an eventual flow in which a player could begin a single-player game and invite friends, while warning that low-end devices might not host reliably. That was a development update, not a permanent statement of availability.

As of the date of this article, check Alderon’s newest release notes and server documentation before assuming that player-device hosting or NAT punch-through is released, supported for public communities, or a replacement for a dedicated server. If the newer feature is available, verify its platform limits, maximum players, security model and restart behavior; do not apply the older dedicated-host assumptions blindly.

A practical sizing and buying checklist

  • Define the target: private friends-only session, small public community or a high-concurrency server.
  • List the workload: expected peak players, maps, mods, database location, backups and any other applications.
  • Pick the route: dedicated Windows/Linux machine you administer, or a GSP with published allocations.
  • Leave headroom: do not plan to run the operating system at its memory limit or CPU limit during peak play.
  • Verify network delivery: public address, required ports, firewall behavior and expected player regions.
  • Test before launch: use representative players and configurations, then inspect logs and resource graphs.
  • Plan failure recovery: automated restart, recent backups, token protection and a documented rollback procedure.
  • Recheck after updates: game patches, mods, Linux distributions and provider plans can alter behavior or requirements.

Common mistakes and fixes

Using the player RAM specification as the server specification

Symptom: a host is purchased solely because it matches the 16 GB minimum or 32 GB recommendation from the PC game requirements. Fix: treat those figures as client requirements and size the dedicated workload by monitoring it.

Assuming the player cap is a benchmark

Symptom: the configuration contains MaxPlayers=100, so the owner advertises 100 slots without a load test. Fix: regard the value as a configurable ceiling and validate the actual machine with representative concurrency.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Running the Linux service as root

Symptom: the server process has unnecessary control over the entire operating system. Fix: follow Alderon’s guidance and run it under a dedicated unprivileged account.

Changing settings without restarting

Symptom: a new map, password or player cap appears not to work. Fix: save the configuration, stop the server cleanly, restart it and confirm the loaded values in the logs.

Choosing a provider by slot count alone

Symptom: a plan promises many slots but gives no clear CPU, RAM, location or backup terms. Fix: obtain the resource allocation, support scope, renewal price and cancellation conditions in writing before purchase.

Bottom line

Alderon’s confirmed self-hosting requirement is a dedicated Windows or Linux machine. Its official material reviewed for this guide does not establish a minimum server RAM or CPU figure, and the 16 GB/32 GB PC numbers are for playing the game. Start with your expected concurrency, mods, database and uptime needs; monitor a test instance; and either expand your own machine or choose a provider whose CPU, RAM, slots, region, backups and support are explicitly stated.
