Free FiveM hosting is possible, but it is not a standardized product. You can run FXServer yourself on a Windows or Linux computer, or use a provider’s no-cost managed tier. In both cases, the Cfx.re software and registration key can be free; CPU time, memory, storage, bandwidth, backups, support and dependable uptime are not automatically included.
Free hosting is a sensible way to learn, prototype resources or run occasional private sessions. A public roleplay community needs written limits and recovery options before it relies on a free tier. The practical questions are who supplies the machine, who controls updates and ports, what happens during inactivity, and whether you can export your server data.

What “free FiveM hosting” actually means
FiveM’s official stack separates the server software from the computer that runs it. FXServer is the runtime. Cfx.re provides a free server-registration key, but the key only authorizes a server identity; it does not provide a virtual machine, network connection or storage.

There is no universal “free plan” specification. Two offers using the same word can have very different player caps, idle policies and storage limits. Treat the provider’s written terms as the product definition.

What FXServer and txAdmin provide
FXServer is the server runtime that loads your FiveM resources and connects players. txAdmin is bundled with FXServer rather than being a separate download. Its web panel provides recipe-based deployment, start, stop and restart controls, configuration editing, access control, logs and in-game administration.
That software can remove much of the setup friction, but it does not remove infrastructure work. You still need a machine that remains online, a reachable network path, a protected administrator account and a backup plan. On managed hosting, the provider may handle installation and port binding while retaining control of artifact versions and the underlying system.
Requirements before you create a server
The official FiveM hosting FAQ recommends an x86-64 system running Linux or Windows (7/2008 R2 or newer in that FAQ), decent upstream connectivity and preferably a multi-core processor. The recommendation describes a baseline, not a guaranteed player count. Resource scripts, database activity, map assets and voice traffic can raise the workload considerably.
- Hardware: an x86-64 computer or provider instance with enough CPU and RAM for the resources you intend to run.
- Operating system: a supported Windows or Linux installation that you can patch and secure.
- Connectivity: dependable upstream bandwidth and a network path that permits players to reach the server.
- Cfx.re account and key: a Cfx.re account and a server-registration key, which is free to create.
- Administration: a protected txAdmin login, firewall rules and a way to review logs.
- Continuity: backups of configuration, resources and database content before major changes.
A managed host may satisfy the operating-system and network requirements for you. Confirm what remains under your control before installing a large framework or importing a database.

How many players can a free FiveM server hold?
Cfx.re’s current official hosting information states that OneSync Infinity supports up to 48 players by default. It also states that Element Club can enable up to 2,048 players. These are platform-level figures, not promises made by a free provider.

Check the actual slot setting in the host panel or server configuration. Then test with the resources you will run in production. A server with a nominal 48-slot setting can still suffer frame-time spikes, slow joins or database timeouts at a much smaller population if scripts are heavy.
Setting up a self-hosted free server
Self-hosting gives you the most control, but you become the operator responsible for availability and security.

Use an x86-64 Windows or Linux computer, preferably multi-core, with enough free disk space for artifacts, resources, logs and database backups. Connect it by a stable network path and disable sleep or automatic shutdown.
- Create the Cfx.re identity. Sign in to a Cfx.re account and create a server-registration key through the official process. Keep the key private; treat it like a credential rather than publishing it in a resource or repository.
- Install FXServer. Download the appropriate server artifacts from the official FiveM/Cfx.re distribution and place them in a dedicated directory. Keep the server files separate from backups and personal files so permissions are easier to manage.
- Start txAdmin. Launch FXServer and complete the txAdmin setup it presents. txAdmin is included with the runtime, so do not install an unrelated panel or an unofficial replacement just to obtain basic controls.
- Choose a recipe carefully. Recipes can deploy a base configuration and resources quickly. Read each resource’s requirements, database instructions and license before accepting a large bundle.
- Configure access. Create individual administrator accounts where possible, use strong unique passwords and grant only the permissions each moderator needs. Do not expose the panel more broadly than necessary.
- Configure the network. Make the required server path reachable through your router or firewall, and verify that your internet service permits hosting. If your connection is behind carrier-grade NAT, inbound access may not work without an alternative arrangement.
- Test before inviting the public. Join locally and from an external connection, inspect txAdmin logs, confirm resource startup order and test a restore of your configuration and database backups.
Self-hosting is only “free” in the narrow billing sense. Electricity, hardware replacement, internet service, patching time and incident recovery remain your responsibility.

Using a managed provider’s free tier
Managed hosting can remove operating-system and port-binding work. A typical onboarding flow looks like this:
For a trial managed option, Godlike.Host lists a free FiveM server card with 1 GB of memory and 10 slots; it must be extended every 3 hours, has limited panel features and one location. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized FiveM hosts (fivem.net, 10 Oct 2026).
- Read the terms before creating the instance. Record the CPU and RAM allocation, slot cap, storage quota, idle-shutdown rule, suspension triggers, backup policy, database access, permitted ports and support channel.
- Create or attach the Cfx.re key. Use the provider’s documented field for the server-registration key and never paste it into a public ticket or chat.
- Open the supplied txAdmin address. Verify that the URL is protected by the provider’s authentication and that you can create administrator roles and inspect logs.
- Confirm artifact policy. Ask whether you can choose or pin artifact versions, how updates are announced, and what happens if an update breaks a resource.
- Deploy a small test recipe first. Start with the minimum resources needed to validate connectivity, database access and restart behavior. Add a large framework only after you know the instance can be exported or restored.
- Exercise the backup and export process. Download a copy of configuration, resources and database data, then verify that the files are usable outside the provider’s panel.
- Measure idle behavior. Leave the server unused for the period described in the terms and confirm whether it stops, sleeps or is deleted. Record how to restart it and whether the assigned address changes.
Provider-managed convenience is valuable only if the limits are clear. A free account that can be suspended without notice is unsuitable for a community promising regular events.

Free-tier limits to compare before choosing a host
“Unlimited” wording is not a technical specification. Compare these items in writing and save a copy of the terms because free policies can change.

Warning signs that a free server is too small
Capacity problems usually appear as a pattern rather than a single crash. Watch txAdmin logs and player reports for:
- Long join times or players being dropped during peak activity.
- Resource timeouts, repeated script errors or server ticks that become irregular after adding a feature.
- Database queries that queue or fail when several players interact with the same system.
- Automatic restarts, sleep events or suspensions that coincide with idle periods or usage spikes.
- Storage warnings caused by logs, map assets or database growth.
- Moderators losing access because the provider changes the panel address, credentials or port mapping.
Reduce load before assuming that more slots will solve the problem. Remove unused resources, review scripts that run continuously, limit unnecessary logging and test database indexes or queries with the resource author. If the host’s CPU, memory or network allocation is fixed, optimization can only go so far.

Growth combines several pressures: more concurrent players create more script events; larger communities need more database activity, moderation and backups; and public uptime expectations leave less room for provider suspensions or home-network outages. A free tier may respond by throttling the process, reducing available slots, stopping the instance or suspending the account under its terms.
Plan the move before an outage. Keep an export of the txAdmin configuration, resource files, database and any custom credentials. Confirm the target host’s artifact compatibility, restore the database in a test instance, then schedule a controlled DNS or connection change. Cfx.re’s hosting page directs users to authorized hosting partners, and a March 2025 announcement added further approved providers. That channel is the defensible route when reliability, support or capacity matters more than a zero monthly bill.

Security and maintenance responsibilities
Whether the machine is yours or a provider’s, protect the administrative surface. Use separate moderator accounts, limit permissions, review logs and remove access for former staff. Keep server artifacts and resources current according to a tested change process, and retain backups offline or in a separate account. Never assume that a free plan includes recovery after accidental deletion, compromise or a provider shutdown.
On self-hosting, also patch the operating system, restrict firewall exposure and monitor disk space and network usage. On managed hosting, ask which of those tasks the provider performs and which remain yours. A host that installs updates for you may not preserve compatibility with every resource, so export files before significant changes.
Monetization is a compliance question
FiveM identifies Tebex as its exclusive monetization partner and directs server administrators to consult the Platform License Agreement. Donations, subscriptions, virtual items and paid assets are therefore not automatically permitted simply because a server is free to operate. Review the agreement and the terms attached to every resource before accepting money or promising benefits to players. Keep records of what is sold and which account controls the store so a future host migration does not strand your community.

A small x86-64 multi-core computer can be a practical self-hosting option when you already own it and have suitable upstream connectivity. It avoids a recurring hosting bill but still consumes electricity, needs cooling and remains responsible for uptime, patching, backups and network exposure. Buying hardware solely to obtain “free” hosting is not free in total cost.
Managed hosting is usually the better fit when you do not want to operate a machine or configure inbound networking. A mini PC makes sense when you value control, can keep it online and are comfortable troubleshooting the operating system and router.
A decision checklist
- Choose self-hosting if you need operating-system access, custom networking and complete data control, and you accept maintenance and outage responsibility.
- Choose a managed free tier for learning, prototyping or occasional private sessions when its resource, idle and export rules are explicit.
- Do not promise public 24/7 availability until you have verified uptime, suspension, backup and support policies.
- Treat 48 and 2,048 as official platform figures, not as guaranteed free-plan slots.
- Keep a tested export so you can move to an authorized provider when player count, script load or reliability requirements exceed the free tier.
The practical verdict
Free FiveM hosting can deliver a working server and txAdmin administration without a hosting invoice, but it cannot eliminate infrastructure costs or operational limits. Start small, document every quota and suspension rule, secure the panel, and test your backups. Once a public community depends on predictable uptime, support and capacity, move to a clearly specified, authorized hosting arrangement rather than treating a free tier as permanent production infrastructure.
