Path of Titans Server Configuration Guide

A practical Path of Titans server configuration guide covering Game.ini sections, safe restarts, provider versus self-hosting, AlderonGamesCmd setup, gameplay controls and troubleshooting.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Configure a Path of Titans community server in its Game.ini file, then restart the server before testing. The official Server Configurations reference defines the section headers and available keys; use it as the live source because settings and defaults can change.

You can rent a server from a supported provider or run the dedicated software on your own Windows or Linux machine. This guide explains both routes, the safe editing workflow, the main gameplay-control categories, and the setup details that are easy to miss.

Where Path of Titans server settings live

The primary configuration file covered by Alderon’s official reference is Game.ini. A setting only works when it is written under the section header documented for that setting. The reference documents these main areas:

#1 Best Overall
Dell PowerEdge T340 Tower Server, Windows 2019 STD OS, Intel Xeon E-2124 Quad-Core 3.3GHz 8MB, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 8TB Storage, RAID, Single PSU (Renewed)

[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameMode] World and gameplay rules such as map, progression, groups, survival pacing and time behavior.
BattlEye section(s) Anti-cheat-related options documented by the current wiki.

Do not assume that a key belongs in the section that seems intuitive. Copy the exact spelling, capitalization and header shown in the current wiki. The page also notes that some values may disappear when they are merely defaults, so an absent line does not automatically mean the feature is disabled.

Finding the file on rented hosting

A provider normally exposes server files through its control panel, file manager or support-assisted configuration workflow. The exact folder and editor vary by provider. Open the server’s file area and look for Game.ini; if it is not exposed, ask the provider where custom configuration is supported rather than editing unrelated files. Provider customers should use their provider’s support channel for provider-side problems.

Finding the file on your own machine

With self-hosting, Game.ini is inside the dedicated server installation managed by AlderonGamesCmd. The exact installation path depends on the directory you selected and the operating system. Locate the installation directory you configured, then use the server’s configuration folder and the file named Game.ini. The official “Set Up a Path of Titans Server” guide is the authority for the current directory layout and launch procedure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to change settings safely

Alderon’s wiki gives a strict operational rule: “The server must be stopped while editing server files. You must save your edits and restart your server for any edits to take effect.” Treat that as part of the configuration procedure, not as an optional precaution.

  1. Stop the server completely. Use the provider’s stop action or terminate the dedicated-server process on your own machine. Do not edit while the process is still writing files.
  2. Make a backup. Copy the current Game.ini with a date in the filename. Keep a known-good copy before changing several options at once.
  3. Open the current file. Use a plain-text editor. Avoid word processors that add formatting.
  4. Use the documented section. Add each key beneath the exact header shown in the live configuration reference.
  5. Put one option on each line. Keep the normal INI form, such as MaxPlayers=100. Do not combine multiple keys on one line.
  6. Save the file. Confirm that the editor did not add an extra extension such as .txt.
  7. Start or restart the server. A running process will not reliably read your changes until it has been restarted.
  8. Test in game. Join with a test account and check the specific behavior you changed before announcing the configuration to your community.

Restart only after the file is saved. If the server fails to start, stop it, restore the backup, and reapply changes one at a time so the invalid line can be isolated.

Examples are syntax demonstrations, not recommendations

The official tables show values such as MaxPlayers=100, ServerMap=Panjura and growth or quest multipliers. These demonstrate accepted settings and example values; they are not universal recommendations for every community, machine or map. Choose values according to your intended population and play style, then verify the key and allowed range in the live wiki.

Rent a provider or run your own machine?

Alderon’s hosting material describes two broad routes. Neither route is universally better; the practical difference is who operates the machine and server process.

Decision point Supported provider hosting Own-hardware hosting
Machine and process maintenance The provider maintains the host environment and normally supplies controls for starting, stopping and updating the server. You maintain the dedicated machine, operating system, server files, updates, backups and running process.
Setup style Usually a control panel plus provider-specific file access; exact tools differ. Hands-on installation with AlderonGamesCmd, launch arguments, authentication and database choices.
Operating-system access Determined by the provider’s platform. Alderon describes own-machine hosting as requiring a dedicated Windows or Linux machine.
Support route Contact the provider for provider-related issues. Use the Path of Titans Community Server Wiki and your own system administration process.
Total cost Recurring provider charges may apply, but the cited Alderon pages do not establish prices. You supply the machine, connectivity and administration; the cited pages do not provide a hardware budget or performance benchmark.
Control Less access to the underlying operating system, but less routine administration. More control over files, updates, networking and multiple-server layouts, with more responsibility.

Alderon also states that its hosting agreement applies to hosted or joined servers. Read the current agreement before opening a public community server.

Self-hosting: the pieces you must configure

Self-hosting is more than editing gameplay values. Alderon’s setup guide covers the software updater, branch selection, authentication, server identity, database mode and network arguments. Follow that guide for exact current commands; its examples contain deployment-specific placeholders and should not be copied unchanged.

1. Install and update with AlderonGamesCmd

AlderonGamesCmd is the command-line utility used to download and update the dedicated server files, serving a role comparable to SteamCMD. The setup documentation lists Windows, Mac and Linux downloads for the utility, while Alderon’s hosting page describes own-machine server hosting as requiring a dedicated Windows or Linux machine. Confirm the current utility build and operating-system instructions before installing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Select the production branch

The setup guide identifies the production branch as its recommended branch at the time the documentation was written. Development or testing branches can change behavior and settings, so use production for a normal public server unless you have a specific reason to test another branch. Recheck the guide when a game update changes branch names or requirements.

  • High-Performance Office Desktop – This business desktop computer serves as a reliable workstation, suitable for both home and business computing. The spacious desktop tower case allows for future expansion, making it an excellent fit for use as an office PC.
  • Rich Ports – This Dell OptiPlex computer is equipped with 5 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and 2 DisplayPort ports, supporting dual-monitor connections. Additionally, a wireless keyboard and mouse are included.

3. Create authentication and identity values

  • Authentication token: the server setup requires a token issued through Alderon’s account and server process.
  • Unique server GUID: give each server its own unique identifier. Reusing an identity can make administration and data ownership confusing, especially when operating more than one server.
  • Server name: set the public name through the documented launch argument or configuration value, and keep it distinct enough for players to recognize.

Keep tokens private. Do not paste credentials into a public tutorial, ticket or chat channel. If you publish launch scripts, replace secrets with environment-specific placeholders and protect the script file.

4. Choose a database mode

Mode Use described by Alderon Operational implication
Local Stores server data locally with the server setup. Simpler for a single installation, but data is tied to that machine and its backups.
Remote Stores data in a remote database. Recommended in the setup guide when sharing data between multiple servers and for reducing the risk that deleting a server folder also deletes the data.

The guide does not make Remote mandatory. Select the mode that matches your deployment, then follow the current authentication and connection syntax in the official setup documentation.

5. Supply launch and network arguments

The setup wiki documents arguments for the port, branch key, authentication token, database, server name, network binding and RCON. Exact argument names and ordering can change, and official examples include credentials placeholders and assumptions about the installation, so validate every argument against the current guide instead of copying a complete command from an old post.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Argument area Why it matters
Port Defines where the server accepts game traffic. Coordinate it with your firewall, provider panel or network equipment.
Branch key Selects the server software branch, such as production where appropriate.
Authentication token Allows the dedicated process to authenticate with Alderon’s services.
Database Chooses and identifies Local or Remote data storage.
Server name Sets the name players see in the server browser or connection flow.
Network binding Controls which local interface the process listens on; an incorrect binding can make a healthy process unreachable.
RCON Provides the remote-console path documented by Alderon for administration. Protect it like any other administrative credential.

Organize Game.ini around the experience you want

Start with the community goal, then change only the relevant class of settings. This avoids a common failure mode: copying a large configuration and losing track of which line changed player behavior.

Access, identity and eligibility

  • Server name: make the purpose or rules clear in the listing.
  • Password: use for private tests, events or invitation-only groups. Remove or rotate it deliberately when opening the server.
  • Allowlist: restrict access to named players when the community requires approval.
  • Paid-user restriction: apply the documented eligibility control only when it matches your intended audience and the current service rules.
  • Player cap: MaxPlayers=100 is an example shown by the wiki, not a recommended population or a performance guarantee.

Test a password and allowlist with both an authorized and unauthorized account. Confirm that the visible server name and cap match what you intended after the restart.

Map, mode and time

  • Map: values such as ServerMap=Panjura illustrate the syntax. Verify the current list of valid maps before changing it.
  • Time-of-day behavior: choose the documented option that fits a persistent world, scheduled events or a faster day/night cycle.
  • Group size: set the maximum group behavior to support solo play, small groups or larger organized communities.
  • Nests and related world rules: enable or tune them only when the selected map and mode support the required content.

Map-specific features can make an otherwise valid configuration feel broken. After changing the map, join with a test character and check spawn, quests and water sources rather than relying only on a successful process start.

Growth, quests and survival pacing

  • Growth rate: controls how quickly characters progress. A multiplier shown in the wiki is an example value, not a statement of ideal pacing.
  • Quest rate: changes the contribution of quests to progression; keep it consistent with your chosen growth speed.
  • Death penalties: determine how costly a failed run feels and should be tested with a disposable character.
  • Hunger and water: alter survival pressure. Make small changes and observe a full play session before making a larger adjustment.

Be especially careful with water regeneration. The wiki warns that setting water regeneration too low can cause lag. If you disable natural water regeneration, ensure that water-restoration quests exist on the hosted map; otherwise players may be left without a dependable way to recover water.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Permanent death and character safety

Alderon warns that permanent death is unfinished and could break character data. Do not enable it on a production community server unless the current wiki explicitly says the feature is ready and you have tested backups and recovery. If you are experimenting, use a test database and keep a restorable copy of the character data.

Chat, map visibility and markers

  • Chat: decide which channels are available and how they fit your moderation policy.
  • Map and minimap: choose how much navigation information players receive.
  • Markers: control shared location information when the rules depend on discovery or limited coordination.

Check these settings with multiple accounts. A setting that looks correct to an administrator may behave differently for ordinary players or for members outside a group.

Moderation and community operations

The configuration and server-management material covers operational controls such as roles, moderation, restarts, logs and webhooks, alongside gameplay settings. Use the current wiki to verify the exact key names and permissions. Give administrative access only to trusted people, record who changed a value, and schedule restarts when the community is least active.

Path of Titans introduced community-server capabilities including moderation, restarts, hiving, webhooks and anti-cheat in its earlier feature documentation. Those historical descriptions explain the breadth of the platform, but they do not replace the current configuration reference; an old key can be renamed, removed or moved to a different tool.

Validate a change before calling it finished

  1. Compare the key with the live wiki. Confirm section, spelling, value type and any stated range.
  2. Check the diff. Keep unrelated lines unchanged so you can identify the cause of a problem.
  3. Restart once. Do not stack several untested edits between restarts.
  4. Join as a normal player. Verify listing, password, map, chat, visibility and progression from the player side.
  5. Exercise edge cases. Test an allowlist rejection, a full server, a death penalty and the water loop if you changed those areas.
  6. Record the working file. Store a dated backup and note the game version, branch and database mode.

For larger communities, maintain a change log with the date, editor, reason, old value and new value. That record is more useful than trying to remember which of many similar multipliers was changed during an emergency.

Troubleshooting common failures

The setting has no effect

  • Confirm the server was stopped before editing and restarted after saving.
  • Check that the line is under the documented IGameSession or IGameMode header, not under a similarly named section.
  • Make sure the editor did not save a second extension or a different file than the one the process loads.
  • Recheck the live wiki: defaults may be omitted, and a key may have been removed or renamed.

The server will not start after an edit

Stop the process, restore the last known-good backup and start again. Reapply one change at a time, preserving the exact syntax from the current reference. Do not troubleshoot by deleting the entire file; that can remove intentional settings and make the original error harder to identify.

Players cannot connect to a self-hosted server

Verify the launch port, network binding, firewall and any provider or router rule associated with that port. Confirm that the authentication token, branch and server identity are valid. If you are using a provider, give its support team the server log and the time of the failed attempt instead of changing network settings blindly.

Waterplay causes lag or becomes impossible

Restore a safer water-regeneration value if you lowered it and players report lag. If natural regeneration is disabled, verify that the selected map contains water-restoration quests. Test the entire hunger-and-water loop with a fresh character before reopening the server.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Character data is at risk

Do not use unfinished permanent-death behavior on a live database. Restore the previous setting and database backup, then test experimental rules in an isolated environment.

Server Manager and NAT punch-through: verify availability

Alderon’s May 19, 2026 development blog described traditional self-hosting as requiring dedicated server software and port forwarding, while presenting NAT punch-through as work intended to simplify hosting for groups across platforms. The August 30, 2026 blog said NAT punch-through testing had expanded to additional platforms and described a free Path of Titans Server Manager app as nearly finished and “released soon.” That wording is a development update, not proof that either feature is available in your current build.

Before changing your deployment, check the latest release notes or the current app listing. If the manager has shipped, confirm which game versions, operating systems and server modes it supports. If it has not, use the established AlderonGamesCmd and dedicated-machine workflow rather than relying on screenshots or an old announcement.

Keep the configuration current

  • Read the live Server Configurations page before copying examples after a game update.
  • Recheck the self-host setup guide whenever Alderon changes AlderonGamesCmd, branch keys, authentication, database arguments or network requirements.
  • Review provider listings and support procedures on Alderon’s hosting page if you rent a server; provider availability and terms can change.
  • Record the server version, branch, configuration backup and database mode after each maintenance window.
  • Re-test access, map, progression, water, moderation and restart behavior after a major update.

The dependable operating pattern is simple: choose the hosting route that matches your administrative capacity, stop the process, edit only documented keys in the correct Game.ini section, save a backup, restart, and test from a player account. Treat every sample value and announced tool as version-specific until the current official documentation confirms otherwise.
