Bricksforge versions through 3.1.8.9 are reported vulnerable to an unauthenticated file-upload flaw that can let an attacker execute PHP on a WordPress server. Patchstack says it observed exploitation attempts and rates the issue 10.0; the CVE record lists a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.8. Administrators should update to Bricksforge 3.1.8.10 or later, then investigate any site that ran an affected version.
What is CVE-2026-85097?
CVE-2026-85097 affects Bricksforge, a WordPress plugin. The vulnerability is insufficient validation of an attacker-controlled url field used with the temporaryFileUploads parameter during form submission. The CVE description says an unauthenticated attacker can obtain a valid nonce, upload a GIF/PHP polyglot to a temporary directory, and manipulate the submitted values so the server treats the upload as PHP. The reported result is arbitrary PHP code execution on the server. NVD’s CVE entry describes the mechanics and affected range.

That is why this is described as unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE): the reported attack does not require the attacker to log in, and successful PHP execution can give the attacker a way to run code on the site’s server. The public description does not establish that every site using Bricksforge exposes the relevant code path or has been compromised.

Which versions are affected, and what fixes the issue?
| Bricksforge version | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 3.1.8.9 and earlier | Reported affected | NVD |
| 3.1.8.10 or later | Patchstack’s recommended fixed version range | Patchstack |
Check every WordPress installation you administer for Bricksforge, not just the site you use most often. If an affected installation cannot be updated promptly, disable or remove the plugin until it can be brought to a fixed version.
Why do reports give different severity scores?
The figures come from different publishers and should not be treated as interchangeable. The CVE.org record lists a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.8, attributed to the CVE Program / Wordfence. Its vector is CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. Patchstack labels the flaw 10.0 in its report. When citing severity, include the publisher and scoring context rather than calling 10.0 the score in the CVE record.

What should WordPress administrators do?
- Inventory sites: identify each WordPress site that has Bricksforge installed and check its installed version.
- Update affected installations: install Bricksforge 3.1.8.10 or later, following the normal update process for that site.
- Investigate exposure: if a site ran a vulnerable version, review relevant logs and uploaded files through your incident-response process. An update removes the known vulnerable version but cannot establish that the site was never compromised.
- Escalate suspicious evidence: if logs or files indicate unexpected activity, handle the site as a potential incident and follow your organization’s response procedures rather than assuming the update alone resolved it.
Neither the CVE record nor Patchstack’s report can determine whether a specific site used the vulnerable code path or was compromised. That requires checking the site’s own version history and evidence.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not confuse this with other Bricksforge vulnerabilities
Two other Bricksforge issues have different causes and outcomes; neither is CVE-2026-85097’s file-upload-to-PHP-execution flaw.
