Palworld is not simply Pokémon with guns. Both games let you explore an open world and collect creatures, but their main loops differ: Palworld combines creature-catching with survival, crafting, base building, and production, while Pokémon Scarlet and Violet focus on catching Pokémon, exploring Paldea, and following player-selected story paths. The comparison below uses Scarlet and Violet as a specific Pokémon example, not as a stand-in for every game in the series.
How the core gameplay loops differ
| What you do | Palworld | Pokémon Scarlet and Violet |
|---|---|---|
| Main focus | Survive, catch Pals, fight, craft, build bases, and produce resources. [Pocketpair; Steam] | Catch wild Pokémon, explore the Paldea region, pursue story paths, gather items, and take part in activities such as Auto Battles. [Nintendo] |
| What creatures are for | Pals can fight alongside you and be assigned jobs at bases, farms, and factories. [Pocketpair] | Nintendo’s guide describes Pokémon as part of catching, exploration, gathering, and Auto Battles; it does not provide a full account of the games’ battle systems. [Nintendo] |
| Why explore? | Travel connects to survival, resource gathering, crafting, and making use of Pals. [Steam] | Explore Paldea at your own pace and choose among three story paths. [Nintendo] |
The practical difference is what happens after you catch a creature. In Palworld, catching one can add a combat partner or a worker to your base. In Scarlet and Violet, Nintendo’s description puts catching and Pokémon activities within an open-world adventure built around exploration and story paths.

What collecting creatures means in each game
Palworld: collection feeds into combat and production
Pocketpair says players can weaken and capture creatures with Pal Spheres, then use Pals in combat or assign them work. Its official page claims there are “200+ distinct Pals” and that every Pal encountered can be captured and added to a team. That number is Pocketpair’s current developer-page claim; the page does not state when it was published. [Pocketpair]

Nintendo describes catching wild Pokémon, exploring the region, gathering items, and using Auto Battles, alongside the freedom to pursue three story paths. Its cited guide is specifically about Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet; it should not be read as a full description of every Pokémon game or every aspect of these games’ battles. [Nintendo]

Is survival crafting central to Palworld?
Yes. Survival and crafting are part of Palworld’s core framing, not optional side activities around an otherwise conventional creature-collecting adventure. The Steam listing describes survival, crafting, farming, building, and multiplayer, while Pocketpair presents combat, monster-catching, and base building together. [Steam; Pocketpair]
If you want creature collecting without a survival-and-production loop, Scarlet and Violet’s official description points to a different emphasis: open-world exploration, catching, activities, and story paths. That distinction is more useful than treating either game as a direct substitute for the other.

| Game | Described multiplayer | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Palworld | Steam lists online co-op for up to four players and dedicated servers for up to 32. [Steam] | The 32-player figure is for dedicated servers; server and platform setup can affect availability. |
| Pokémon Scarlet and Violet | Nintendo says up to four players can connect locally or online. [Nintendo] | Nintendo notes that online play has account and subscription requirements. |
Both games offer ways to play with others, but their published descriptions give different modes and limits. Check the relevant platform and server requirements for the setup you plan to use.

Which game fits what you want?
- Choose Palworld if you want creature collecting tied to survival, crafting, base building, resource production, and combat.
- Choose Scarlet or Violet if you want an open-world Pokémon adventure centered on exploration, catching, activities, and several story paths.
- Do not choose based only on the “Pokémon with guns” shorthand. It misses the defining role of survival and base production in Palworld, and it can obscure how different the games’ overall structures are.
