“Pairing” a Samsung soundbar remote can mean three different jobs, and each has its own fix. You may need a replacement remote that matches your soundbar. You may need to pair the soundbar to a TV or phone over Bluetooth. Or you may want your Samsung TV remote to control the soundbar. Samsung’s support pages treat these as separate tasks. Samsung’s pages do not describe a special pairing step for a replacement soundbar remote, so check your model’s manual for that.
Which task do you actually have?
- Lost or broken remote: find the soundbar’s full model number and get a remote matched to it (next section).
- Soundbar won’t connect to a TV, phone or tablet wirelessly: this is Bluetooth pairing, covered below.
- You want one remote for TV and soundbar: set the TV’s sound output to the soundbar and use optical or HDMI ARC (see the TV remote section).
Getting a replacement remote that matches
Samsung US Support says to enter your soundbar’s model number to find the correct replacement remote on Samsung Parts. Use the complete model number from the label on the soundbar or from the manual, not just the series name. If you buy from a third-party listing, confirm that the full model number appears in the compatibility details.

Samsung’s pages don’t give a universal pairing procedure for a replacement remote. Don’t use the Bluetooth steps below for this, because Bluetooth pairing links the soundbar to an audio source, not to a remote. Any model-specific setup for a new remote will be in your soundbar’s user manual.

Samsung says soundbars pair over Bluetooth only with devices that play audio, such as TVs, tablets and phones. They don’t pair with Bluetooth speakers, headphones or other soundbars. Button behavior differs by model and region. If the labels below don’t match your display, follow your manual.

Samsung US guidance
- Press the Source button to cycle through inputs until the display shows BT.
- The display then shows WAIT, followed by BT PAIRING.
- If it shows BT READY instead, press and hold Source on the soundbar until BT PAIRING appears.
- On the TV or phone, open Bluetooth settings and select the soundbar.
Samsung India guidance
- If the soundbar is already in a BT state, switch it to another source first.
- Hold the remote’s PAIR button for five seconds until the display shows BT PAIRING. On models where the remote isn’t usable, the soundbar’s Multi Function or Source button may provide the source selection.
- On a Samsung TV, select the soundbar in the Bluetooth Speaker List.
Use your Samsung TV remote to control the soundbar
With an optical or HDMI ARC connection, a Samsung TV remote can control soundbar volume and mute. Samsung US Support says to set the TV’s Sound Output to the soundbar. If the remote still doesn’t control it, power on the soundbar and hold WOOFER for about five seconds until the display shows ON – TV REMOTE. Models without a WOOFER button need the TV Remote function steps from their user manual.
Optical
Connect the optical out on the TV to the optical in on the soundbar and select D.IN as the source. Enable Auto Power Link if needed. Samsung says it works only over optical and is on by default in the guidance referenced.

HDMI ARC
Connect the soundbar’s HDMI OUT to the TV’s HDMI ARC port and set the source to D.IN. After about two seconds the source should change to TV ARC. Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) supports synchronized power behavior. Menu names differ by TV and region.
Choosing a connection
Samsung’s UK setup page says HDMI-eARC supports Dolby TrueHD, including uncompressed Dolby Atmos, while optical and Bluetooth do not. It lists Dolby Digital 5.1 as supported over HDMI-eARC, HDMI, optical and Bluetooth. This is UK guidance, and what you get depends on what both your TV and soundbar support.

Troubleshooting a Bluetooth connection that fails
- Confirm the soundbar display shows BT PAIRING.
- Put the TV or other source into Bluetooth discovery. If the soundbar isn’t listed on a Samsung TV, cancel and retry. Samsung says the name may appear after one or two attempts.
- Check for soundbar firmware updates and restart the source device.
- Try a different device to find out which side is failing. If the soundbar pairs with others but not this one, the source may need an update or may not be compatible.
- If no Bluetooth device will ever pair with the soundbar, Samsung advises contacting support for service.
Connected but no sound
- Check that the TV’s Sound Output is set to the soundbar and that the soundbar is on the right source.
- HDMI ARC: use the ARC/eARC-labelled HDMI port, make sure HDMI-CEC/Anynet+ is enabled, and look for D.IN switching to TV ARC.
- Optical: select D.IN on the soundbar and make sure the TV’s audio output is set to optical.
- Wi-Fi: Samsung India’s guidance (updated August 6, 2025) says the TV and soundbar should be on the same network. It recommends reconnecting through SmartThings.
Samsung’s guidance doesn’t name one cable as required for every model. Use the ports and cable types your own TV and soundbar manuals specify.
