PagePeeker vs. Browserless: Which API Should Render Web Pages to Images?

PagePeeker is thumbnail-first; Browserless adds configurable screenshots to a broader automation platform. Compare controls, billing and workflow fit before choosing.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Short answer: PagePeeker is the more thumbnail-focused service; Browserless offers a screenshot endpoint within a broader browser automation platform. If you want another screenshot API to try first, consider ScreenshotNeo: it removes common consent banners and popups before capture, and bills only clean shots. Your best fit depends on the controls, workflow and usage accounting your application needs—not a proven accuracy or reliability advantage. The vendors’ published information does not establish a head-to-head winner.

How PagePeeker and Browserless differ

PagePeeker presents itself as a managed website-thumbnail service, with plans based on monthly API-call allowances and options for embedding and scaling thumbnails. Browserless’s screenshot endpoint is one part of a larger browser automation offering that also includes APIs for rendered content, structured scraping, PDFs, unblocking and browser functions. (Sources: PagePeeker; Browserless REST overview.)

That distinction matters more than a simple feature-count comparison. A thumbnail workflow that mostly serves cached previews has different needs from a workflow that renders pages with custom browser settings or is part of a larger automation sequence.

What you can control in a capture

PagePeeker: thumbnail service with higher-tier options

PagePeeker’s pricing table lists Basic and Advanced thumbnail sizes up to 480×360. It lists full-length and mobile or tablet screenshots as unavailable on those two tiers. Premium is shown with customizable options including dimensions, full-page capture, compression, overlays, wait times and CDN upload. Confirm current plan availability and requirements with PagePeeker before relying on a particular option. (PagePeeker pricing; PagePeeker full-page feature page.)

Browserless: screenshot endpoint with browser-style settings

Browserless documents PNG, JPEG and WebP output, viewport and full-page capture, element and clip capture, raw HTML input, and script or style injection. Its documentation describes the request this way: “Send a POST request to the /screenshot endpoint with a URL and optional Puppeteer-style screenshot options.” These are documented capabilities, not a guarantee that every target site will render as expected. PagePeeker’s public material reviewed here emphasizes managed thumbnail creation, while Browserless documents explicit screenshot controls. The reviewed PagePeeker material does not establish session-persistence behavior, so validate any login or multi-step requirement directly with that vendor.

Compare usage and published plan figures

The figures below were posted on vendor pricing pages accessed on October 3, 2026. Pricing pages did not provide a publication date; plan names, quotas and prices can change. They are not directly comparable because PagePeeker counts API calls and Browserless sells units with additional plan constraints.

Service and plan Vendor-posted price and allowance Important qualification
PagePeeker Basic $5.99/month for 100,000 API calls Pricing-page figure accessed October 3, 2026; vendor pricing page.
PagePeeker Advanced $39.99/month for 1,000,000 API calls Pricing-page figure accessed October 3, 2026; vendor pricing page.

Browserless Free $0 for 1,000 units/month Pricing-page listing accessed October 3, 2026; vendor pricing page.
Browserless Prototyping $25/month, billed annually, for 20,000 units/month Pricing-page listing accessed October 3, 2026; vendor pricing page.
Browserless Starter $140/month, billed annually, for 180,000 units/month Pricing-page listing accessed October 3, 2026; vendor pricing page.
Browserless Scale $350/month, billed annually The cited plan listing gives this price; the allowance is not stated in the evidence summarized here. See vendor pricing for current details.

PagePeeker says an API call can mean displaying an existing thumbnail, creating one when uncached, checking availability or using another exposed API—not only generating a fresh image. It also says unused monthly calls do not roll over. The FAQ says pay-as-you-go may be discussed for customers above five million calls monthly; confirm current billing terms with the vendor. Logitech C270 720p Webcam Plug-and-Play Wide Screen Video Calling - Black
  • Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
  • Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
  • The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
  • C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
  • The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.

Browserless’s pricing page lists units, concurrency, session duration and overages. Before estimating cost, check those current plan details and determine how your workload consumes units. A nominal price-per-call comparison would be misleading without reconciling these definitions and the features you need.

Rendering time, reliability and site access

PagePeeker lists typical rendering ranges of 10–20 seconds on Basic, 5–15 seconds on Advanced and under 5 seconds on Premium. These are vendor estimates on a pricing page accessed October 3, 2026, not independently measured or comparable benchmark results. (PagePeeker pricing.) The reviewed vendor sources do not establish that either service is more accurate, faster or more reliable overall.

Browserless warns that target-site bot defenses can produce blank pages, CAPTCHAs, access-denied responses or missing elements. Its separate /unblock API and proxy options are documented as possible mitigations, not universal ways around site defenses. Test representative pages—including dynamic and bot-protected ones—before selecting a service. (Screenshot API; REST overview.)

How to take a screenshot with the Browserless REST API

Browserless uses an authenticated POST /screenshot request. The API token is supplied in a query parameter, so keep it server-side: do not expose it in browser code, public URLs or logs. The endpoint returns image bytes with a content type selected by the requested format. Use the request structure and options in the official documentation for the current schema. (Browserless Screenshot API.)

  1. Choose a target URL and the output format your application needs: PNG, JPEG or WebP.
  2. Send a server-side POST request to the Browserless screenshot endpoint with your token and screenshot options. Set viewport, full-page, selector or clip options as appropriate.
  3. Save or stream the response bytes as an image, honoring the returned content type.
  4. For raw HTML instead of a URL, provide the HTML input alone; Browserless says not to include both URL and raw HTML in one request. Custom scripts and styles can be injected before capture.

Because option names and payload shape are specific to the API, use Browserless’s current examples rather than copying a guessed request body: official request documentation.

Full-page and lazy-loaded pages

For long pages, Browserless recommends scrolling before capture and combining scrollPage with fullPage. Lazy-loaded content may not appear if the page has not been scrolled far enough to trigger it. Check the resulting image dimensions and storage cost; a very tall image may not fit the limits of the system that consumes it. (Browserless Screenshot API.)

Stateless requests versus interactive sessions

Browserless describes its REST APIs as stateless, single-action calls: REST does not preserve sessions. If the task needs a persistent, multi-step browser workflow, its documentation points to browser sessions or BrowserQL instead. A screenshot request should not be assumed to carry forward login state from an earlier REST call. (Browserless REST overview.)

Choose based on your workload

  • Consider PagePeeker if your main need is managed website thumbnails and its call-based plans, caching and tier-specific options fit your delivery pattern.
  • Consider Browserless if you need documented screenshot controls or expect the capture step to sit alongside other browser automation tasks. Account for units, concurrency and whether the workflow requires a persistent session.
  • Test before committing if your pages rely on JavaScript, lazy loading, authentication or protected content. A feature being documented does not establish that the target site will permit a successful capture.

For either service, estimate real monthly use from your application’s behavior. Include repeated thumbnail displays and availability checks in PagePeeker’s call model; use Browserless’s own unit and concurrency definitions for Browserless. The vendor pages do not provide an independent, like-for-like accuracy or reliability comparison.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first if you want a one-request screenshot API rather than configuring a browser workflow. It accepts a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF; the service can remove known cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture. Each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Example cURL request, using the documented endpoint and query pattern (ScreenshotNeo API documentation):
