If PagePeeker returns a blank or placeholder thumbnail, first confirm you are using its recommended V2 endpoint, then check whether the thumbnail is still being created or whether PagePeeker reported an error. For paid and unbranded accounts, response headers can provide capture details; the readiness endpoint separately reports whether a thumbnail is ready. A repeat request may return a cached image rather than create a fresh capture.
1. Confirm the endpoint and request parameters
PagePeeker identifies V2 as its current recommended API. Its original V1 API is discontinued and redirects to V2, so update integrations still calling V1. The documented direct-link endpoint is /{entrypoint}/v2/thumbs.php. Check the official PagePeeker API documentation for the correct entrypoint and account-specific details.

Make sure the target page URL is URL-encoded as a parameter, and check that the requested thumbnail size is valid for your account. Documented sizes range from tiny (90 × 68) to extra-large (480 × 360); premium accounts may have additional sizes. A malformed target parameter or unsupported size is worth ruling out before changing the target website.

Record the request URL without any secret API key, the HTTP response status, and the response headers. For paid and unbranded accounts, PagePeeker documents these capture-related headers; their availability should not be assumed for other account types:

Do not treat a blank-looking image alone as proof of a capture error. Use the error header when it is returned, and check readiness separately to establish whether the result is still pending.
3. Check whether the thumbnail is ready
PagePeeker documents a readiness endpoint, thumbs_ready.php, whose JSON response includes two distinct fields:

If IsReady is 0 and Error is 0, the result is pending rather than a reported creation error. Follow PagePeeker’s documented sequence: issue a refresh/reset request where supported, poll readiness, and then request the thumbnail. The wait option can make the API wait up to the specified maximum before returning a generated thumbnail or placeholder, but it is premium-only. The refresh=1 regeneration option is also premium-only; do not assume either control works on a free account.
4. Account for cached thumbnails
PagePeeker says renders—the actual creation of a thumbnail—are cached on its servers for several days. Its FAQ explains that API-call counts can rise when displaying an existing thumbnail, creating one that is not cached, checking readiness, or calling an exposed API. Thus, a new API call does not necessarily mean a new render, and repeatedly displaying the same URL is not a reliable way to force an updated image.

If the page has changed and you need a fresh capture, use the documented refresh=1 option only if your account supports it. PagePeeker’s stated 5–7 day robot-fetch interval is intended to minimize traffic; it is not a guaranteed cache-expiry schedule for every URL or account.
5. Check whether the target site permits capture
PagePeeker says site owners can opt out by adding this rule to robots.txt:

Disallow: /If you control the site, check its robots file; if someone else owns it, ask the owner whether the PagePeeker robot is disallowed. This is a possible access condition to investigate, not proof that robots rules caused a particular blank image.
More generally, screenshot automation can encounter CAPTCHA or challenge pages, access-denied responses such as 403, blank or white pages, and missing elements. Browserless describes these as general screenshot-automation issues, not PagePeeker-specific diagnoses or remedies. PagePeeker’s public documentation does not map every blank result to a cause, so use the returned evidence and the site owner’s access policy rather than assuming a particular fix.

6. Escalate with a useful diagnostic record
If the result remains unexplained, send PagePeeker a concise reproduction record. Include the target URL, request parameters with secret keys removed, request timestamp, HTTP status, all returned X-PP-* values, and the readiness JSON. This gives support the documented evidence needed to distinguish a pending result, reported creation error, redirect, or possible cache issue. No particular response time or guaranteed remedy is established in the API documentation.
