PadForward is a proposed community-powered network for finding and donating menstrual products in public places. Its “I Need a Pad” flow is designed to show nearby reported supplies and directions; its donation flow suggests where a contribution may be most useful. But the Sydney stations shown in its demo are explicitly demo points, and their stock figures are not verified inventory.
What PadForward is designed to do
Creator ujja says the idea began after unexpectedly needing a pad near a train station and finding none available. PadForward is intended to make reported supplies easier to discover without asking a stranger, while helping donors direct products toward places reporting greater need. The creator describes it as “a community-powered network for finding and donating menstrual products in public places.” ujja’s project explanation on DEV Community.

The concept focuses on menstrual pads and possible public settings such as transit locations, universities, workplaces and community centres. These are potential settings, not confirmed PadForward sites or partnerships.
How the described flows work
Finding a pad
The “I Need a Pad” flow is described as showing nearby locations with community-reported supplies and directions. Reports can use labels such as “Plenty,” “A few,” “None” and “Not sure,” alongside timestamps and a confidence model. That makes report freshness important: a listing describes what someone reported, not a guarantee that a pad will still be there when a person arrives.

Directing a donation
For donors, the product asks, “Where should my donation go?” The described flow accepts the quantity available and suggests a location based on reported supply and estimated need. The project frames this as a way to direct donations, rather than as evidence that any particular venue has agreed to accept or distribute them.
AI and technical details
ujja describes an AI agent that can use application tools to find nearby locations, check reports, route donations and process supply updates. The submission also describes photo-based reporting, donation-record transactions on Solana devnet, and fallback behavior using browser AI and deterministic logic. DEV’s challenge recap independently mentions the AI-agent and Solana aspects, but neither source establishes independent testing of the implementation. DEV’s October 1, 2026 challenge recap.

What the demo does—and does not—confirm
The creator says the demo uses real Sydney station coordinates, but identifies the stations as demo community points and the supply figures as demo data, not real inventory. Example quantities, availability labels, need scores and walking times should therefore not be treated as verified stock or evidence of operating supply points. The cited project post links to a live demo, but its current reachability and the presence of real supplies were not independently confirmed.

What to check before relying on a community supply listing
For anyone considering a community product-finder such as PadForward, the practical question is not only whether a location appears on a map. Access depends on whether reports are recent, locations are genuinely reachable, and someone can replenish supplies. Useful evaluation criteria include:
- Freshness and verification: when was the supply last reported, and how is an outdated listing handled?
- Coverage and proximity: are points available where people need them, and are directions usable in the moment?
- Reporting and restocking: can people update stock easily, and is there a clear route from a donation suggestion to actual replenishment?
- Privacy: what information is collected when someone looks for supplies or submits a report?
- Resilience: can a person still get useful information if connectivity or an automated feature is unavailable?
The project submission and DEV recap do not provide measured usage, impact figures, confirmed operating partners or evidence that the demo’s listed supplies are stocked. PadForward is best understood from these sources as a proposed community access layer, rather than a verified directory of available pads.
