Paddle does not provide a complete, built-in affiliate program for sellers. Sellers can use a separate affiliate platform to recruit partners, create referral links, attribute purchases and manage commissions, while Paddle handles billing. The integration details depend on whether you use Paddle Classic or Paddle Billing: Paddle’s affiliate guide is explicitly for Classic, while Billing documents customData that can carry referral context into webhooks and reporting—not an affiliate-management system by itself.
What Paddle does—and does not—provide for affiliates
Paddle’s Help Center says it supports third-party affiliate networks, but the linked affiliate-tracking instructions apply exclusively to Paddle Classic. Those instructions describe sending transaction details to an affiliate platform so that platform can attribute conversions and calculate commissions. They do not establish that the same integrations work with Paddle Billing today. Paddle’s affiliate integration guidance

Paddle Billing offers a different piece of the workflow: sellers can pass customData into checkout, and Paddle says this data can appear in webhook alerts and reporting. That can help preserve a referral identifier alongside a transaction, but it does not create affiliate links, recruit partners, set attribution rules, calculate commissions or pay affiliates. How to build an affiliate program around Paddle
1. Choose an affiliate-management platform
The separate platform or network typically provides partner signup, referral links or codes, attribution rules, reporting and commission operations. Paddle processes transactions; the affiliate platform manages the program layer.
#1 Best Overall
Paddle’s Classic documentation lists or links implementation material for CJ Affiliate, FirstPromoter, HasOffers, ImpactRadius, Rewardful, ShareASale, Tapfiliate, Tolt, WebGains and Voluum. This is evidence of Classic-oriented documentation, not a current endorsement or a compatibility guarantee for Paddle Billing. Check the platform’s current documentation and confirm support for your specific Paddle product before committing. Paddle Classic affiliate-tracking guide
Paddle has also published a FirstPromoter customer story describing a software business using that service for affiliate and referral tracking, commissions, customer tracking and reporting with billing providers including Paddle. It is a vendor case study, not an independent comparison or proof of current Paddle Billing compatibility.

2. Capture the referral before checkout
Use the affiliate provider’s documented method—such as its link, cookie or referral code—to associate a visitor with a partner. Preserve the resulting identifier in your own records or pass it into the checkout flow where supported. For Paddle Billing, customData can carry agreed referral context through Paddle.js into webhook alerts and reporting. Your provider and integration still need to define the fields and attribution rules; custom data alone does not attribute a sale automatically.

3. Report the paid transaction
Paddle Classic’s guide says an affiliate platform generally needs at least a unique transaction identifier and transaction value. Depending on the platform, it may require additional fields, a particular currency or net rather than gross revenue. The Classic guide describes a checkout-completion conversion event where appropriate, or a server-to-server report triggered by the payment_succeeded webhook when the affiliate provider supports that approach. Confirm the required payload and event handling in the provider’s current API documentation and Paddle documentation for your product. Paddle Classic tracking and webhook guidance

4. Define what happens after the first payment
A successful initial checkout is not enough to establish how a program handles recurring commissions or later transaction changes. Before launch, agree with the affiliate provider how its system handles:
- Subscription renewals and cancellations
- Refunds and chargebacks
- Attribution windows and duplicate conversion events
- Commission basis, including currency and gross-versus-net value
- Reconciliation when a transaction changes after the initial conversion
Then verify that the chosen integration can deliver the event data needed to apply those rules. Paddle’s Classic guide describes conversion tracking, but the sources do not establish current Paddle Billing support across providers for these lifecycle cases.

5. Keep affiliate traffic in the normal checkout flow
Paddle’s seller handbook says purchases should take place through the seller’s website or app. Design affiliate links to lead to your ordinary product page or app checkout flow rather than treating a direct product checkout link as a special affiliate-payment route. Check your current Paddle terms and the affiliate provider’s implementation guidance before launch. Paddle seller handbook

How to assess an integration before choosing it
| What to verify | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Product support | Whether the provider documents your exact Paddle product—Classic or Billing—and the integration is currently supported. |
| Referral capture | How a partner is identified: link, cookie, code or another documented field, and how that identifier reaches checkout or your server records. |
| Conversion reporting | Whether reporting uses a browser-side success event or a server-to-server webhook/API route, and which transaction fields are required. |
| Subscription lifecycle | How renewals, cancellations, refunds and chargebacks affect attribution and commissions under your rules. |
| Program operations | Whether the provider covers partner recruitment and portals, commission rules, payout handling, fraud controls and reporting. |
| End-to-end validation | Whether a test transaction in your own environment appears correctly in both Paddle records and the affiliate platform, including any later lifecycle events you use. |
