It modernizes the 1999 game with updated visuals, interface and gameplay, while retaining a straightforward platforming loop across six themed areas. In a 2022 Nintendo Switch review, MeriStation’s Ricardo Fernández found it varied and enjoyable, but also noted repetitive or overlong stages and a restrained technical refresh. That assessment is specific to the Switch version and his review at the time, not a current cross-platform performance test.
What kind of game is PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC?
It is a single-player 3D action-adventure platformer, not a new version of the classic 2D maze-only game. Bandai Namco says the original PAC-MAN WORLD first appeared in 1999. In Re-PAC, Pac-Man returns home on his birthday to discover that the Ghosts have kidnapped his family and friends. He sets off across Ghost Island to rescue them and confront TOC-MAN.

The campaign moves through six areas: Pirate, Ruins, Space, Funhouse, Factory and Mansion. Bandai Namco describes each area as containing multiple levels and a boss challenge. Rescuing family members is part of the adventure’s progression.

Quest Mode is the main campaign. Its platforming mixes running and jumping with several Pac-Man-specific moves: butt-bouncing, rev-rolling, hovering and throwing PAC-DOTS. You also collect items, use power-ups, solve environmental puzzles and take on bosses. The variety of moves and themed settings gives the game more texture than a sequence of simple jumps, though the stages still follow a familiar platform-game structure.

MeriStation’s Ricardo Fernández described the controls as straightforward and the six worlds as varied in his September 2022 Switch review. He also found collectibles and replayable stages, but felt some levels ran long and became repetitive. Those are his review judgments rather than a guarantee of how every player will respond.
What does Re-PAC change?
Bandai Namco presents Re-PAC as an enhanced modernization of the original, listing improvements to visuals, the user interface, gameplay and environmental details. That is the publisher’s description of the changes, not an independent technical benchmark. The 2022 Switch review characterized the refresh as conservative by modern-hardware standards, so readers looking for a full reinvention should temper expectations.

Hervé Hoerdt, Senior Vice President Marketing, Digital and Content at Bandai Namco Europe S.A.S., described the project as follows: “With PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC we are reintroducing an enhanced version for a new generation of fans,” The statement reflects the publisher’s positioning of the game.

Original Mode
Completing Quest Mode unlocks Original Mode, which contains the original PAC-MAN game. Fernández also highlighted these modes as part of the package’s replay appeal in his Switch review.

Fernández’s September 2022 review reports two graphics options for the Switch version. Performance mode targeted 60 frames per second at reduced resolution; quality mode targeted 1080p at 30 frames per second. He noticed occasional small hitches in performance mode and considered the technical presentation modest. These figures and observations describe that review’s experience at the time. They do not establish the behavior of later patches, or performance on PlayStation, Xbox or PC.

Which platforms is PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC on?
Bandai Namco lists the game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. The publisher gives 26 August 2022 as its release date and currently lists the game as available. Store editions and purchase details can differ by region and platform, so check the listing for the version you intend to buy.

It also explains that using the PS5 digital version with a PS4 disc requires a PS5 console with a disc drive. That entitlement detail applies to that PlayStation US listing, not necessarily to other storefronts or editions.

- Consider it if you want an accessible 3D platformer built around clear controls, themed stages and a mix of jumping, collectibles, puzzles and boss fights.
- Be cautious if you need a technically ambitious remake or have little patience for stages that can feel long or repetitive; those concerns feature in MeriStation’s Switch assessment.
- Look beyond the campaign if the 3D mazes and unlockable original PAC-MAN are part of the appeal. Quest Mode is the route to unlocking Original Mode.
