OriginOS 6 is Vivo’s newer global software experience, based on Android 16; Funtouch OS is the software branch many international Vivo owners have used on earlier phones. The practical differences are a redesigned interface, more customization, Origin Island, and additional AI and productivity tools. But an OriginOS announcement does not mean every Vivo phone will receive it: rollout eligibility varies by model and market.
What is the difference between OriginOS and Funtouch OS?
OriginOS and Funtouch OS are Vivo software experiences, not two names for one identical interface. The clearest current comparison is between OriginOS 6 and the Funtouch OS version installed on a particular phone. Software features change between releases, so there is no single timeless comparison that applies to every Vivo handset.

Lock screen and home screen
OriginOS 6 adds a lock-screen layout where users can arrange and resize widgets. Vivo also describes a redesigned 4×7 home-screen grid and adaptive folders. These changes give users more control over how information and apps are laid out than a comparison based only on software names would suggest.

Visual effects and transitions
Vivo highlights Dynamic Glow and Translucent Color, alongside Spring Animation, Blur Transition, Morphing Animation, and One Shot Animation. These are part of Vivo’s design and motion presentation for OriginOS 6, rather than evidence that every model will render effects identically.
Origin Island, AI, and productivity features
Origin Island
Origin Island is designed to surface live status information and relevant actions. Vivo connects it with Android 16 Live Updates, so it is more than a visual element; what appears can depend on supported apps and services.
AI and search tools
Vivo names Gemini and Circle to Search among OriginOS 6’s AI-related features. It also lists AI Retouch, Smart Call Assistant, AI Creation, and AI Search. The announcement establishes that Vivo presents these as OriginOS 6 features, but not that all will be available on every device or in every country.
Documents and device-to-device work
DocMaster and Office Kit are among the productivity tools Vivo lists, alongside One-Tap Transfer. Vivo says Office Kit requires third-party service support and that support may change, so its availability should not be assumed from the operating system name alone. Performance claims: what Vivo reports
Vivo says OriginOS 6 uses its Origin Smooth Engine and reports several improvements, including app cold-start speed up 18.5% and frame-rate stability up 10.5%. It also says Memory Fusion accelerates data loading by 106%; Dual Rendering improves animation performance by 35% and keeps frame rates 11% steadier under heavy loads; opening 50 consecutive apps is up to 16% quicker; and touch response is 41% faster.
These are Vivo-reported figures from its October 2025 announcement, not independent, universal benchmarks. Vivo notes that some data comes from its labs, results may vary by model, and actual performance should prevail. The company also says the X300 Pro earned SGS certification for sustained smoothness in a simulation of five years of heavy use; that claim applies to the stated certification and simulation, not a guarantee of five years’ performance for every OriginOS phone. Not necessarily. Vivo said the global OriginOS 6 rollout would begin in phases in November 2025 and that upgrade plans may vary by market. Its announcement names the X300 Pro as a phone with OriginOS 6, but it does not establish a complete, current eligibility list for all older models and countries.

Which software should you choose when comparing Vivo phones?
Compare the specific phone and software version, rather than treating OriginOS or Funtouch OS as a fixed feature set. Vivo’s October 2025 announcement is useful for understanding OriginOS 6, while the experience on a particular Funtouch OS phone depends on its installed release.
- Android base: OriginOS 6 is based on Android 16. Check the exact software version on any phone being considered.
- Interface: Look at the lock-screen widget options, home-screen layout, folders, and visual effects that matter to you.
- Tools: Confirm that the AI, search, calling, document, and transfer features you want are supported on the exact model and in your region.
- Updates: Verify local eligibility rather than assuming that an announced rollout covers every Vivo phone.
- Services: Some features depend on third-party support, which Vivo says may change for Office Kit.
