1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShort answer: the Oppo A71 is a genuine late-2017 Android phone, but it is now a legacy used device. The original model uses a MediaTek MT6750; the separate Oppo A71 (2018) uses a Snapdragon 450. Both typically have Android 7.1, 16GB storage and a 3,000mAh launch-rated battery. In 2026, buy one only if it is extremely cheap and you need a basic secondary phone. It is a poor choice for banking, work authentication, demanding apps or long-term primary use.
What the Oppo A71 is
Oppo introduced the A71 as an entry-level Android smartphone. The original India announcement was on September 13, 2017, at ₹12,990, with 3GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP and 5MP cameras, and a 3,000mAh battery. Oppo’s launch announcement describes that India-market configuration.
There is also an Oppo A71 (2018). It is not merely a renamed phone: its commonly listed Snapdragon 450 processor and ColorOS 3.2 differ from the original’s MediaTek MT6750 and ColorOS 3.1. Do not confuse either Oppo model with Samsung’s Galaxy A71.
Listings commonly date the original to September 2017 and the 2018 version to January 2018, but retail timing, RAM, SIM layout, LTE bands and model numbers vary by country. Check the handset’s model information rather than relying on a listing title.

These are commonly published specifications, not a guarantee for every regional SKU. The two versions are documented separately by Gadgets 360’s original A71 listing and its A71 (2018) listing.
Full hardware specifications
The A71’s compact 5.2-inch 720p LCD and approximately 137g body are easy to handle, but the 16:9 screen and resolution are dated. The 13MP rear camera and 5MP selfie camera can handle daylight snapshots when the camera module is in good condition; megapixel counts do not predict modern image quality, especially in low light.
Commonly listed versions include a 3.5mm headphone connection, a micro-USB charging/data port and microSD expansion. The exact SIM arrangement, colors, LTE bands, NFC availability and bundled charger are regional. NFC should be treated as unconfirmed unless the documentation for your exact model says otherwise.

Performance in everyday use
What it can still do
- Calls, SMS and light email.
- Basic web browsing and music playback.
- Older or undemanding applications.
- Simple photography and offline media.
Where it struggles
- Modern 3D games, video editing and heavy multitasking.
- Large social-media applications running together.
- Phones with nearly full internal storage.
- Apps requiring newer Android APIs, Google Play services or current device certification.
The limiting combination is the old processor, Android 7.1 and only 16GB of internal storage. A microSD card can hold photos, videos and some transferable data, but it cannot make incompatible apps install or move every application off internal storage.

Software, security and app support
The A71 launched with Android 7.1 Nougat and ColorOS 3.x. It should be treated as an Android-7-era device; do not assume a current Android upgrade or ongoing security patches. Oppo’s global support portal and user-guide portal provide regional tools, but they do not establish one universal current update path for every A71 variant.
A working phone can still connect to Wi-Fi and run compatible software. That is different from being suitable for sensitive use. Prefer a newer, supported device for banking, password management, work authentication, two-factor authentication and confidential business communication. Compatibility differs by app version, Android requirement and certification; not every current app necessarily fails, but support cannot be assumed.

Battery, charging and storage reality
About 3,000mAh is the original capacity, not the capacity of a used handset in 2026. Battery life depends on degradation, signal strength, screen brightness, background activity and whether the cell has been replaced. Swelling, rapid drain or a phone that becomes unusually hot are reasons to reject the unit.
The micro-USB port is slower and less convenient than USB-C. Do not market the A71 as a modern fast-charging phone or assume USB Power Delivery support. A reputable replacement cable and charger may solve accessory problems, but a battery replacement does not update Android, add storage or improve network compatibility.

4G, SIM and carrier compatibility
“4G” on a listing does not mean the phone works everywhere. Regional A71 variants use different LTE bands; one commonly listed India model includes Band 40, but that does not establish compatibility with a US or other international carrier. VoLTE provisioning, carrier whitelisting, SIM support and network shutdowns also matter. Confirm the exact model number and band list with the intended carrier before paying.

For US use in particular, do not import an A71 solely because an advertisement says LTE. Test the exact carrier’s compatibility and VoLTE requirements first.
Buying a used Oppo A71: inspection checklist
- Identify the variant: open Settings → About phone, photograph the model and software version, and determine whether it is the MT6750 original or Snapdragon 450 A71 (2018).
- Verify IMEI: dial
*#06#where supported, compare the number with the box and settings, and check that it is not lost, stolen, financed or blacklisted. - Inspect the screen and touch: look for cracks, dead pixels, burn-in, uneven brightness and ghost touches; type across the entire keyboard.
- Test cameras and audio: capture photos and video with both cameras, test autofocus, flash, microphone, speaker and saved files.
- Check battery and charging: confirm stable charging, inspect for a lifting back cover, and gently test the port for loose connections.
- Test connectivity: use your SIM to make calls, send SMS, test mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, hotspot and VoLTE where required.
- Remove account locks: have the seller remove their Google account, reset the phone in front of you and complete setup far enough to ensure it does not request the former owner’s account.
- Check storage: after reset, open the storage screen. The advertised 16GB is reduced by Android, ColorOS and preinstalled software.
- Check accessories: verify the SIM tray, buttons, cable and charger. A missing original charger is negotiable; an unsafe, unbranded replacement is not.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price and availability in 2026
The original India launch price was ₹12,990 on September 13, 2017. Database pages retrieved in 2026 show figures around ₹8,850–₹9,490, but those pages also indicate unavailable or out-of-stock status. They are not reliable evidence of a live market price: old inventory, automated entries and seller anomalies can remain online. Treat any A71 listing as used, refurbished or old stock unless the seller proves otherwise, and compare its total cost with a newer phone.

Who should buy it?
It can make sense when
- The price is extremely low and the exact model is known.
- You need a backup, emergency, music or basic calling phone.
- The battery, IMEI, account status and carrier compatibility all check out.
- You accept Android 7-era software and limited internal storage.
Avoid it when
- You need banking, work authentication or a primary secure smartphone.
- The seller cannot identify the variant or carrier status.
- The battery is swollen, hot or drains rapidly.
- You expect current Android updates, USB-C or modern app support.
- The price is close to a newer used phone.
Better alternatives
For most buyers, a newer used Android phone is better value. Prioritize Android 11 or newer where possible, at least 32GB (preferably 64GB) storage, a documented security-update history, a healthy battery and confirmed carrier support. Current Oppo A-series families and budget models from Motorola, Samsung Galaxy A, HMD/Nokia, Redmi and TCL vary by region; compare update support and price rather than brand alone. Oppo’s current product and support context is available at Oppo global support and Oppo India support.
If your requirement is only calling and texting, a current feature phone may provide longer battery life and fewer compatibility concerns than an aging smartphone.
Verdict
The Oppo A71 still works as a basic handset when its battery, network and software are acceptable, but it is not a sensible mainstream smartphone purchase in 2026. Choose it only as a very cheap, verified legacy or backup device. For primary use, sensitive accounts, modern apps or long-term ownership, spend the money on a newer supported phone.
