Vertical tabs and pinned tabs get the main fixes
The update addresses several issues in the way tabs move between pinned and regular sections, particularly when using vertical tabs.
- Drag a tab out of the pinned section to unpin it, or drag an unpinned tab into that section to pin it.
- Opera improved the pointer preview shown while dragging between the sections and polished the pinned-tab preview layout.
- A pinned tab can now be moved into the regular-tabs section without the reported restriction that it could only be dropped into a tab island.
- Opera fixed a crash that could occur when dragging an unpinned tab from the pinned section back to the regular section.
- Clicks on tabs should work again after switching from vertical to horizontal layout.

#1 Best Overall
Mac onboarding
Opera says it fixed onboarding on Mac that became slow and unresponsive after the introduction.
Changes Opera identifies as Early Bird-only
Opera’s announcement separately describes these items for Early Bird users with vertical tabs; it does not present them as changes for all Stable users.
Rank #2
- On Windows, the tabs context menu no longer goes missing when clicking below the tabs.
- In the collapsed state during a meeting, a favicon no longer shows both a red dot and a sound/mute indicator.
#emergency-session-restorewas enabled in Early Bird. Opera describes it as adding recovery paths when normal session restore is interrupted or fails, reducing the risk of opening with an empty session after a crash.
Linux warning: avoid dynamic themes for now
Opera lists a known issue in which the browser crashes on Linux when a dynamic theme is selected in theme settings. The stated workaround is to use a static theme until a fix is available. The warning is specific to selecting a dynamic theme on Linux; Opera does not say that every Linux setup crashes.
Where to get the update
Opera’s announcement links to Stable downloads for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The official Linux package archive lists DEB and RPM packages for version 136.0.6008.80.
