According to the ClawHub listing, when optional cloud lookup is enabled, the tool sends the skill name, source label and OpenClaw version to A.I.G. The listing says it does not send skill bodies, chats or workspace files. Those are the listing’s disclosures; operators should still check the current listing and their organization’s outbound-data policy before using the tool.

Use the no-outbound option where policy prohibits outbound HTTPS. Why a skill scan does not replace OpenClaw security controls
ClawScan addresses the risk of third-party skills; it does not replace securing the Gateway or checking its configuration. OpenClaw’s security guidance says a regular host installation binds the Gateway to loopback. Unknown direct-message senders generally receive a pairing code rather than having their messages processed, and group access is allowlisted by default. The guidance recommends running openclaw security audit to check for configuration drift. Container images are an exception to the regular host bind default: their exposed bind should be paired with authentication. See OpenClaw’s Gateway security guidance.
The project’s documented trust model is one trusted boundary per Gateway. OpenClaw states: “OpenClaw is not a hostile multi-tenant security boundary for mutually adversarial users sharing one agent or gateway.” If users sharing an environment may act against one another, the guidance is to use separate Gateways and credentials, ideally on separate OS users or hosts. Why ClawHub review is a distinct security layer
OpenClaw’s security page says its scope covers the core project, apps and hosted installers, while excluding third-party ClawHub skills. That makes registry skills a separate risk surface: a project-level security review and a skill-scanning effort address different parts of an installation.
As of Oct. 3, 2026, OpenClaw’s own advisory page reported 1,799 reports filed since January 2026; 58% were closed with no advisory because they were invalid, duplicate or by design. It listed 722 fixes published, 39 of them carrying a CVE, and 14 confirmed critical vulnerabilities, all fixed and disclosed. Of the published fixes, 239 were in add-ons; the page cautions that exposure depends on component and configuration. These are rolling counts reported by OpenClaw, not an independent measure of ecosystem risk. The page also notes that filing a report does not establish a confirmed vulnerability: 123 of 137 issues filed as critical were invalid, duplicate or out of scope. Practical questions before enabling ClawScan
- Is this skill safe? A scan can inform a decision, but the announcement does not promise complete detection or provide independent efficacy results. Review the skill and its publisher as well.
- Do I need cloud lookup? Decide based on whether access to the listing-described threat-intelligence lookups is useful and whether your policy permits the disclosed metadata to leave your environment.
- Does a scan secure a shared Gateway? No. Keep Gateway access and user separation within OpenClaw’s documented trust model, and use the security audit to check configuration.
