Each approved lab can receive up to 30 complimentary ChatGPT Business Standard seats for 12 months, with access to GPT-Rosalind available only after a separate trusted-access review and workspace enablement.
What the Rosalind Academic Plan includes
The plan is designed for university research labs rather than individual researchers, commercial organizations or unaffiliated groups. A principal investigator (PI) or designated lab lead applies, owns the resulting workspace and controls member access.

Normal usage limits still apply during the complimentary period. Labs that need more than 30 seats are directed to contact OpenAI Support rather than creating additional seats under the offer.
Who can apply
Eligibility is currently limited to academic labs at U.S. universities. The applicant must be the PI or an authorized lab lead and must verify an institutional email address. A university email address or an existing ChatGPT subscription does not guarantee approval.

OpenAI uses Persona for university and PI or lab-lead identity verification. Completing that verification is only part of the process and does not itself constitute approval.
How Enterprise-affiliated labs apply
Labs at universities without an OpenAI Enterprise agreement use the academic-lab application. If the university already has an Enterprise agreement, the lab requests GPT-Rosalind through that agreement’s access process instead of the standalone academic-lab route.

Member and collaborator rules
Every workspace member must use a verified institutional email address on the same domain as the approved PI or lab lead. A visiting researcher or collaborator whose email belongs to another university cannot be added to this workspace under the stated rules.
The verified PI or lab lead is the sole workspace owner. That person cannot appoint additional owners or administrators, manages member access and is responsible for removing access when someone leaves the lab or no longer needs the model. Access remains subject to safety monitoring and responsible-use requirements and may be revoked.

Data retention and workspace governance

Zero Data Retention is not available under this offer. Labs should therefore review their institutional policies, biosafety procedures and data-handling requirements before uploading research material.
