If your OneStream Live YouTube stream is stuck on “Starting,” first check how you’re streaming: with a pre-recorded video, OneStream Live Studio, or an external encoder. Then verify that YouTube is connected and selected as the destination. If you use an encoder, check the current server URL and stream key and whether OneStream reports an incoming signal. Network or device performance can also be worth checking, but the status alone does not reveal the cause.
Start by identifying your streaming method
OneStream Live has separate workflows for pre-recorded streams, Studio livestreams, and encoder streaming. The right checks depend on which one you’re using, so don’t apply encoder-specific fixes to a pre-recorded or Studio broadcast.

- Pre-recorded video: You scheduled or started an uploaded video.
- Studio: You’re broadcasting from OneStream Live Studio.
- External encoder: You’re sending a signal from another encoding app or device to OneStream Live.
Note the workflow and the exact status shown for the event. If the stream is instead described as Processing, Pending, or as failing immediately, keep that wording too; those statuses may point to different troubleshooting paths.

Check the YouTube connection and destination
- In OneStream Live, open Social Platforms and confirm that the YouTube account you intend to use is connected.
- For an encoder broadcast, confirm that at least one social platform is selected as the destination and that the selection has been saved.
- Check that the selected destination is the intended YouTube account or channel.
- Start the event again only after correcting a missing connection or destination selection.
OneStream Live’s YouTube setup guidance calls for connecting the account before scheduling or starting a stream. Its encoder-destination guidance likewise requires selecting and saving at least one platform. A stream that is stuck at “Starting” does not, by itself, prove that the destination is the problem.

If you use an external encoder, verify its input settings
Copy the current server URL and stream key
Open the relevant OneStream Live stream-key settings and copy the server URL and stream key shown there into your encoder. OneStream Live’s external-encoder instructions specifically say to copy both values. Check for accidental spaces, an old key, or details copied from a different event.
Check whether OneStream receives a signal
Look at the incoming-signal status in the advanced stream-key settings. Treat it as a diagnostic observation: if OneStream does not report an incoming signal, recheck the encoder’s URL, key, and connection. If a signal is reported, that confirms only that an input is reaching OneStream; it does not establish why YouTube or the event remains at “Starting.”

- Connects a USB 3.0 device (computer/laptop) to a router, modem, or network switch to deliver Gigabit Ethernet to your network connection. Does not support Smart TV or gaming consoles (e.g.Nintendo Switch).
- Supported features include Wake-on-LAN function, Green Ethernet & IEEE 802.3az-2010 (Energy Efficient Ethernet)
- Supports IPv4/IPv6 pack Checksum Offload Engine (COE) to reduce Cental Processing Unit (CPU) loading
- Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS
Update the encoder after changing protocols
If you changed the protocol in OneStream Live, copy the resulting server URL and key into the encoder again. OneStream Live says the server URL updates automatically when the protocol selection changes, so an encoder still using the previous URL may be sending to stale connection details.
Check network capacity and device load
Once the account, destination, and encoder details are correct, check the connection and encoding system. OneStream Live’s 2026 RTMP quality guidance gives these operational recommendations; they are not a diagnosis of every stream stuck on “Starting.”

| Check | OneStream Live guidance | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p (HD) video bitrate | Minimum 1.5 Mbps | Compare the encoder’s video bitrate with the recommendation. |
| 1080p (Full HD) video bitrate | Minimum 3 Mbps | Compare the encoder’s video bitrate with the recommendation. |
| Available upload speed | At least 10 Mbps recommended; 25 Mbps or higher described as ideal | Check actual upload capacity and stability while streaming. |
| Bitrate relative to upload capacity | Keep video bitrate to no more than half of available upload speed | Leave capacity for the rest of the stream data and for normal variation. |
| CPU usage | At or above 80% merits performance troubleshooting | Check whether the encoding device is heavily loaded during the attempt. |
These are recommendations from OneStream Live’s guide, not guaranteed minimums for every configuration or proof that a missed target caused the status. Network instability, encoder settings, and device load are reasonable checks, but the available guidance does not identify any one of them as the universal cause.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you observe | Checks to make |
|---|---|
| No incoming signal reported for an encoder stream | Confirm that the encoder is using the current OneStream server URL and stream key, that the destination details belong to the intended stream, and that the encoder is attempting to send. |
| Incoming signal reported, but the event stays at “Starting” | Recheck that YouTube is connected and selected. Record the event status and the incoming-signal observation; neither alone establishes the cause. |
| The problem began after a protocol change | Copy the updated URL and key from OneStream into the encoder, then check the incoming-signal status again. |
| The stream remains in Processing or Pending, or fails immediately | Keep the exact status text and consult OneStream Live’s troubleshooting support for that status and workflow. |
| The stream remains stuck after configuration and performance checks | Preserve the event details and contact OneStream Live support rather than inferring a root cause from “Starting.” |
