OneStream Live Video Upload Failed: Supported Formats and Fixes

OneStream Live’s regular uploads and Studio clips have different format and size rules. Check the right requirements, encoding, processing, and connection to fix an upload failure.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If a OneStream Live video upload fails, check which upload feature you are using, then match the file’s format, size, and encoding to that feature. For regular video uploads, OneStream lists MP4, MOV, and M4V; its recommended export is MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Studio clips have different rules: MP4, MOV, or WebM, with a 40 MB maximum.

Check which OneStream upload you are using

OneStream Live publishes separate requirements for regular video uploads and Live Studio clips. A format or size limit that applies to one feature does not necessarily apply to the other.

Upload type Supported formats Published size guidance Recommended encoding and settings
Regular video upload MP4, MOV, M4V Direct upload from a computer, phone, or tablet: maximum 10 GB. For cloud-storage uploads, no size limit is stated. MP4 container, H.264 (AVC) video, AAC audio, 30 FPS, 1920 × 1080, video bitrate 1500–6000 Kbps, and audio bitrate 128 Kbps. OneStream recommends videos be at least one minute long for the best live-streaming experience.
Live Studio clip MP4, MOV, WebM Maximum 40 MB. H.264 (AVC) video, AAC audio, 30 or 60 FPS, 1920 × 1080, video bitrate 1500–6000 Kbps, audio bitrate 128 or 192 Kbps, and 44.1 kHz sample rate.

The format and setting guidance comes from OneStream Live Help Center pages: its general-upload FAQ was updated March 12, 2025; recommended video settings were updated September 8, 2026; and Studio clip settings were published August 11, 2026. Check the upload surface before changing the file: M4V appears in the regular-upload guidance, while WebM appears in the Studio clip guidance.

Fix a failed video upload step by step

  1. Identify the upload surface. Confirm whether you are uploading a regular video or adding a clip in Live Studio. Check the relevant format list and size limit above.
  2. Confirm upload completion and processing. Make sure the upload reached completion and wait for processing to finish before scheduling or testing the stream. If processing remains stuck for an extended period, OneStream’s troubleshooting guidance suggests uploading the file again.
  3. Check the actual codecs and frame rate. A filename ending in .mp4 does not guarantee compatible encoding. For a regular upload, export MP4 with H.264 (AVC) video, AAC audio, and a constant 30 FPS. Unsupported codecs or variable frame rates may cause processing or playback problems.
  4. Play the source file on your device. Check the entire video for freezing, damaged frames, interruptions, or missing audio. If it does not play correctly locally, export a clean copy before retrying.
  5. Retry with a fresh upload. If appropriate, remove the failed upload, then upload a fresh copy without closing the page or interrupting the connection. Wait for processing to finish and test the stream before its scheduled time.
  6. Review the event and destination. Check the scheduled date and time, and confirm the event has not expired. Make sure the destination is connected and that its authentication, permissions, stream key, and settings are current; reconnect the destination if needed.
  7. Stabilize the connection. An interrupted or unstable network can disrupt an upload. Avoid other activity that consumes upload bandwidth and, where possible, use a stable wired connection. A wired connection can help with connectivity trouble, but it cannot fix an unsupported codec or damaged file.
  8. If upload succeeds but playback fails, verify the file has both audio and video and uses supported codecs. Refresh the player, try another browser or device, and check whether the destination platform is having playback issues.

Convert an unsupported file

OneStream’s guidance is to import and render the video in editing software, or use an online converter. It names HandBrake as a free software example. For a regular OneStream video upload, target an MP4 file with H.264 (AVC) video and AAC audio, then check that the frame rate is a constant 30 FPS. For a Studio clip, use the clip-specific format and size guidance instead.

  • 【Package Content & Note】 1x HD Audio Capture Card , 1x USB 3.0 to USB C Adapter (A-side 3.0, B-side 2.0), 1x user manual. Please note that you need to restart the OBS Studio software after the audio setup is complete, otherwise it will result in no sound output. When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

After conversion, play the exported file locally from beginning to end before uploading it. This helps distinguish a conversion or source-file problem from an upload or destination problem.

Check schedule and stream rules before retrying

A media file can meet OneStream’s format requirements while a scheduled pre-recorded stream still fails for another reason. Confirm the event time and destination connection, and test the stream before the event. Also make sure you have the rights to use the video, music, and other material in the stream, and follow the destination platform’s current live-streaming rules. Repeated uploads will not resolve a scheduling, permissions, or platform-side issue.
