OneStream Live Data Usage for a 24/7 YouTube Stream on Indian Broadband

A 24/7 stream’s broadband use depends on whether it is sent from home or distributed through a cloud workflow. See daily and 30-day estimates for common YouTube H.264 bitrates.

OneStream Live’s 24/7 YouTube workflow schedules prerecorded video through OneStream’s cloud service; its documentation does not say that your home broadband continuously uploads the finished broadcast. Your connection is still used to upload or access the media and manage the account. By contrast, if a local encoder sends the stream from home, a constant 5 Mbps feed transfers about 54 GB a day—or 1,620 GB (1.62 decimal TB) over 30 days—before overhead. Your actual usage depends on the stream path, bitrate, runtime and ISP terms.

Will OneStream use my broadband data all day?

OneStream’s 24/7 instructions describe scheduling prerecorded video to YouTube through OneStream. They do not say that the user’s home connection must upload the finished broadcast continuously for its entire duration. OneStream’s overview describes the service receiving a stream and distributing it to destinations, and describes 24/7 YouTube streaming as looping prerecorded content.

That is different from running an encoder at home and sending its output to YouTube over your broadband. In that local-encoder setup, outgoing data rises with the configured bitrate and the time the stream runs. The cloud workflow still uses data for uploading or accessing media and managing your account, but the documentation does not establish exact OneStream data accounting or guarantee that every setup avoids continuous local traffic.

Check the plan requirement

OneStream states that 24/7 streaming is YouTube-only, requires an Enterprise plan and can be scheduled for up to 30 days. Check your current account plan before relying on the feature; do not assume it is included on every plan.

How much data does a local 24/7 stream use?

For a constant bitrate, a useful decimal estimate is 10.8 GB per day for each 1 Mbps of sustained streaming. Over 30 days, that is 324 GB per Mbps. These figures are calculations from bitrate and runtime, not measurements of an Indian ISP or of your account.

Formula: GB = Mbps × seconds × 1,000,000 ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000,000. For a 30-day, 5 Mbps stream: 10.8 × 5 × 30 = 1,620 GB.

720p60 8 Mbps 86.4 GB 2,592 GB

1080p60 14 Mbps 151.2 GB 4,536 GB (4.536 decimal TB)

YouTube Help lists these as recommended H.264 live bitrates in its encoder settings guidance, accessed 2026-10-03. The corresponding data figures above are arithmetic estimates for a continuous local stream at those bitrates; they are not YouTube traffic measurements. They apply only when that ongoing video feed traverses your household connection, not automatically to OneStream’s cloud-hosted prerecorded workflow.

What can change the estimate?

The arithmetic assumes uninterrupted, constant bitrate. Real traffic can differ because of bitrate variation, audio, protocol overhead, retries, other uploads and how the ISP accounts for data. Treat the result as an estimate, not a prediction of your bill.

How much upload speed does 1080p live streaming need?

For H.264, YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p60. Those are platform recommendations, not claims about the speed available on any particular Indian broadband line. Download speed alone does not show whether your upload is sufficient: the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth, and upload can be slower than download.

  1. Measure upload at the streaming location. YouTube recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate. A peak result is not proof that the connection will remain stable around the clock.
  2. Test before going live. YouTube recommends a pre-stream test. Use the intended resolution, frame rate and bitrate, then check YouTube’s stream health while the test runs.
  3. Compare sustained upload with the stream bitrate. Leave headroom for connection variation and other household uploads rather than treating the recommended bitrate as a guarantee that the line will carry it reliably.
  4. Check the ISP plan’s terms. Confirm the data allowance, fair-use threshold and what happens after that threshold with your provider. Advertised download speed does not answer those questions.

How to estimate your own monthly broadband use

  1. Identify whether the broadcast is cloud-hosted prerecorded video or a local encoder sending continuously from home.
  2. For a local encoder, find its actual configured bitrate and planned runtime. Use the encoder’s bitrate, not a resolution label alone.
  3. Multiply the bitrate in Mbps by 10.8 to estimate decimal GB per day, then by the number of streaming days. For a 30-day estimate, multiply Mbps by 324.
  4. Compare the estimate with your specific ISP plan’s data allowance and fair-use policy, and account for non-streaming household usage.

An exact monthly answer needs your ISP and plan, its data terms, your streaming architecture, selected bitrate and measured upload performance. There is no universal Indian broadband data cap, speed or suitable plan established here, so a countrywide provider ranking would not be reliable.
