OnePlus 16 Could Get a 165Hz Mode for All Apps

The OnePlus 16’s 165Hz display is confirmed in reporting, but a setting for all system and downloaded apps remains unverified.

OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will have a 165Hz display, but a mode that lets every system and downloaded app use that refresh rate has not been confirmed. That broader feature is based on reports of a leaked settings screen and tipster claims; treat it as a possibility, not a final specification.

What OnePlus has confirmed—and what remains a leak

OnePlus confirmed the OnePlus 16 and its 165Hz screen at a China gaming technology event, according to Android Authority’s July 31, 2026 report. Notebookcheck separately reported that OnePlus China president Li Jie described a “global 165Hz ultra-high refresh rate.” That wording is attributed to a company statement, but the available reporting does not establish that it means every app can use 165Hz.

The more specific all-app claim comes from tipster Digital Chat Station and a reportedly leaked settings screen. Notebookcheck and Gizchina say the screen places a 165Hz option in regular display settings and indicates support for system apps and downloaded apps. The original Weibo posts were inaccessible to the reporting, and OnePlus has not directly confirmed those software details. The most accurate reading is therefore: 165Hz display confirmed; system-wide, all-app selection rumored.

How the rumored setting could differ from the OnePlus 15

Reports describe the OnePlus 15 as offering 165Hz only in selected apps or games, with a Developer Options route reportedly allowing some other apps to use it. The OnePlus 16 leak suggests a simpler control in standard display settings, potentially extending the choice to system and downloaded apps. This comparison is based on reporting, not a verified final OnePlus 16 interface. Notebookcheck’s report distinguishes the OnePlus 15 behavior from the leaked OnePlus 16 setting.

165Hz refresh rate does not mean 165 frames per second

Refresh rate describes how often the display can update; frame rate describes how many new frames an app or game renders each second. A 165Hz panel can refresh up to 165 times per second, but an app may render fewer frames because of its own limits, the game’s settings, or the phone’s performance. As Gizchina notes, a 165Hz setting would not guarantee that every app or game runs at 165fps.

Even if the reported toggle appears in the final software, its presence would mean the user can select a high refresh rate for more apps—not that every app will produce 165 distinct frames each second. The reports do not establish how the phone will handle static content, whether it will automatically lower refresh rate to conserve power, or which apps and games will support high frame rates.

Launch timing and regional availability are still unsettled

As of Notebookcheck’s September 17, 2026 report, OnePlus had not announced a launch date and availability outside China was unknown. Gizchina likewise wrote on October 6 that the phone had not been officially announced. The reports also associate the phone with ColorOS 17, but do not establish final software details or regional configurations. Buyers should wait for OnePlus to publish the final feature list and confirm local availability before treating the all-app mode as a purchase-ready feature.
