Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) if you prefer Nothing’s design and software approach or are drawn to its zoom-focused camera positioning. Which phone is faster?
The 13R has the higher-tier processor on paper: OnePlus identifies it as using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while PhoneArena lists the Phone (4a) with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. That makes the 13R the clearer choice if processor headroom for demanding workloads is a priority.
Chip names alone do not establish how fast a phone will feel in every task. Benchmark results and everyday performance depend on the test, software, and workload; no directly comparable performance test is established here. OnePlus described the 13R’s platform as built to handle intensive tasks, but that characterization is the manufacturer’s, not an independent test result.

Battery capacity and charging
OnePlus specifies a 6,000mAh typical-capacity battery for the 13R. PhoneArena lists the Phone (4a) at 5,080mAh. The 13R also supports 80W SUPERVOOC charging according to OnePlus, with a lower stated rate of 55W in North America; PhoneArena lists 50W wired charging for the 4a.
These figures describe battery capacity and supported charging rates, not guaranteed battery life or charging time. Screen-on time and actual charging depend on usage and conditions, and no comparable battery test is established here.
Camera hardware and zoom claims
OnePlus 13R
OnePlus specifies a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP portrait camera with 2x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide camera. Its stated 2x optical zoom refers to the portrait camera’s optical reach.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNothing Phone (4a)
Nothing promotes a three-camera system and “up to 70x ultra zoom.” PhoneArena’s comparison lists a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide, but does not provide a comparable breakdown of the full camera system in the cited data. A maximum or digitally assisted zoom claim is not equivalent to optical zoom, and it does not by itself establish better photo quality.
Rank #2
No directly comparable camera-image test is available here, so the specifications and zoom language do not settle which phone takes better photos. If camera quality is decisive, compare sample images from the exact regional models you can buy, especially for the focal lengths and lighting conditions you use most.
Water and dust protection
OnePlus states that the 13R is rated IP65; PhoneArena lists an IP64 rating for the Phone (4a). These are product specifications, not a promise that either phone is waterproof. An IP rating should not be treated as permission to submerge a handset.
Software and configuration to check before buying
The cited information places the 13R at OxygenOS 15 at launch and lists the Phone (4a) with Android 16 and up to three OS updates. Those details do not establish the current installed software or update commitment for every regional variant. Check the seller’s local product listing and the manufacturer’s current support information for the exact model and market.

Price difference: compare like with like
Nothing’s UK product page displayed £379 for the selected Phone (4a) 8GB+128GB option. PhoneArena lists a $600 MSRP for the 13R and euro MSRP entries of €349, €389, and €429 for the Phone (4a). These are source-listed prices, not a current, matched retail comparison: they use different currencies, markets, and potentially different configurations. Do not subtract them or treat the result as the price difference between the phones.
For a useful comparison, check both phones in the same country on the same day, with the same RAM and storage where possible. Compare the actual price from the seller you intend to use, and account for local model availability and network compatibility. Prices and stock can change.
Which one should you choose?
Choose the OnePlus 13R if
- You value the higher-tier processor listed for the 13R.
- You want the larger stated battery capacity and faster supported wired charging.
- You prefer its specified 50MP portrait camera with 2x optical zoom.
- You consider the stated IP65 rating a useful advantage, while recognizing it does not make the phone waterproof.
Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) if
- You are specifically drawn to Nothing’s design and software approach.
- You prefer its camera positioning and want to assess its zoom system using photos from the exact model available in your market.
- Its locally available configuration is a better fit for your budget after checking the 13R at a comparable seller and specification.
Neither model is the automatic choice for every buyer. The 13R leads on the cited processor tier, battery capacity, charging rate, and stated protection rating; the 4a’s case rests more on Nothing’s design and software approach and whether its camera system suits your needs.
