The OnePlus 12 is the cheaper one. In the US, TechRadar reported launch prices of $799.99 for the OnePlus 12 and $899.99 for the OnePlus 13 (12GB RAM/256GB storage), a $100 gap at the entry configuration. That is a launch-price comparison, not today’s street price.

| Area | OnePlus 12 | OnePlus 13 | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chipset | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | Snapdragon 8 Elite | The 13 has the newer chip generation. The spec sheets don’t quantify a real-world speed difference. |
| Battery (typical-equivalent, dual-cell) | 5400mAh | 6000mAh | The 13 has the larger stated capacity. It is a capacity figure, not a measured battery-life result. |
| Main camera | 50MP (Sony LYT-808) | 50MP | Both are 50MP. Sensor details beyond that aren’t compared here. |
| Telephoto | 64MP, 3x periscope | 50MP, 3x triprism | The optical designs differ, and the megapixel count alone doesn’t say which takes better photos. |
| Ultrawide | 48MP | 50MP | A small resolution difference on paper. |
| Video | No directly comparable claim established | 4K Dolby Vision with every camera, front and rear (per OnePlus) | This is a documented feature of the 13. Don’t read it as proof the 12 lacks it. |
| Water/dust resistance | No comparable rating established in OnePlus’s pages reviewed | IP68 and IP69 (lab conditions) | A documented advantage for the 13. |
| US launch price | From $799.99 | $899.99 (12GB/256GB); $999.99 (16GB/512GB) | $100 gap at the entry level. The 13’s US launch was announced for January 7, 2025. |
Performance: newer chip, unquantified gain
The OnePlus 12 uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and the OnePlus 13 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite. That is a full generation of platform difference, and it matters mostly for longevity, efficiency and heavy gaming or AI features. The pages checked give no benchmark figures, so an exact percentage gain would be a guess. For everyday use, both are flagship-class chips.

Battery: 5400mAh vs 6000mAh
OnePlus lists the OnePlus 13 at 6000mAh typical-equivalent, made of two 3000mAh cells. It lists the OnePlus 12 at 5400mAh typical-equivalent. That is roughly an 11% increase in stated capacity. OnePlus itself says real performance depends on usage, battery aging, software and environment. Runtime also depends on chip efficiency, so capacity alone doesn’t settle which phone lasts longer. Look for independent runtime tests if battery life decides your purchase.
#1 Best Overall
Cameras: similar layout, different telephoto
Both phones have a three-camera rear system. The OnePlus 12 pairs a 50MP Sony LYT-808 main sensor with a 64MP 3x periscope telephoto and a 48MP ultrawide. The OnePlus 13 uses a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 3x triprism telephoto and a 50MP ultrawide. Both telephotos are 3x, so the practical difference lies in the optics and processing, which specs can’t rank. The 13 also adds OnePlus’s claim of 4K Dolby Vision capture on every camera, including the front one.
Durability: the 13’s IP68 and IP69 ratings
OnePlus says the OnePlus 13 earned IP68 and IP69 ratings under IEC60529 laboratory conditions. OnePlus cautions that daily use differs from the lab, that resistance can decline with wear, and that water exposure can still cause problems. Treat it as a test rating that adds margin against splashes and dust, not as permission to submerge the phone deliberately. The OnePlus 12 pages checked did not provide a comparable rating to set against it.

TechRadar reported the OnePlus 12 starting at $799.99 in the US. It reported the OnePlus 13 at $899.99 for 12GB/256GB and $999.99 for 16GB/512GB. The $100 gap is simple arithmetic on those launch prices, and it compares the entry configuration of each phone.
- These are not current prices. No present-day retailer price, promotion or stock level for either phone is established here.
- Compare the same market, the same RAM and storage, and the same seller on the day you buy.
- Older flagships often get cheaper while stock remains, but whether that applies to the 12 now depends on local listings.
Which should you buy?
Choose the OnePlus 13 if
- You want the newer chip platform for a longer useful life.
- Battery capacity is a priority and you value the larger cells.
- An IP68/IP69 rating matters to you.
- You want 4K Dolby Vision video from the front camera as well as the rear ones.
Choose the OnePlus 12 if
- You can find it for materially less than the OnePlus 13. The launch gap was $100, and a wider gap makes the older phone the stronger value.
- You care more about its 64MP periscope telephoto hardware than about the 13’s newer features.
- Its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance already covers your needs.
Is upgrading from the 12 to the 13 worth it?
For most OnePlus 12 owners, the changes are incremental: more battery capacity, a newer chip, a revised telephoto and a durability rating. Those add up to a modest step rather than a transformation. An upgrade makes sense mainly if your battery has aged, you want the water-resistance rating, or you can trade in your 12 at a good value. Otherwise the money is better kept.
Accessories and compatibility
The two phones are different models, so cases, screen protectors and charging gear should match the exact model. OnePlus’s pages list cases and power/cable categories for each phone. Check the charging standard (SUPERVOOC or AIRVOOC for wireless) before buying a charger, rather than assuming one from the older phone works at full speed.
