A March 31, 2024 report described compatibility problems between Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update and several Good Lock modules. The issues affected some Galaxy devices—not every Samsung phone—and included NavStar navigation controls, Always On Display (AOD), LockStar, foldable cover-screen shortcuts and Samsung Keyboard controls. One UI 6.1 is no longer Samsung’s current interface generation in 2026, so treat the version numbers below as historical and check your phone and Galaxy Store for current updates.
What actually changed
One UI 6.1 is Samsung’s system software. Good Lock is Samsung’s Galaxy Store customization app, and its modules—such as NavStar, LockStar and AOD-related utilities—modify parts of the system interface. A phone can therefore have current system firmware while an older module still behaves incorrectly after a major One UI change.

The first rollout described in the report covered nine Galaxy AI-capable flagships. That was a rollout snapshot, not a complete compatibility list. Availability and impact vary by model, country, carrier and software version. Samsung’s update screens carry the same caveat in its current support guidance: software-update options and labels differ by device and carrier.
The evidence describes interface and module-compatibility defects, not a universal hardware failure or proof that One UI 6.1 permanently broke every Galaxy device.

Always On Display: design change or bug?
One UI 6.1 tied the AOD clock to the lock-screen clock instead of treating the two clocks as fully independent. The described settings layout also removed the manual AOD-brightness menu. Those changes can be deliberate interface decisions, even when users dislike them.
By contrast, disappearing widgets, overlapping icons and broken transitions are malfunction symptoms. Good Lock updates may restore some customization, but they do not necessarily recreate the exact pre-One-UI-6.1 behavior. The versions 8.7.96.15, 8.7.99.11 and 6.1.0.11 belong to the 2024 report; do not assume they are installed or current on a phone running a later One UI release.

How to check for system and Good Lock fixes
Update the phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update or System updates.
- Choose Download and install, Check for system updates or Check for software updates, depending on the model and carrier.
- Install the offered update and follow the on-screen instructions.
- To identify the installed build, go to Settings → About phone (or About tablet) → Software information.
Samsung’s current instructions are at Samsung Support. Charge the device, use reliable Wi‑Fi and avoid starting an update immediately before travel or important work.

Update Good Lock modules
- Open Galaxy Store.
- Search for Good Lock and open each affected module, such as NavStar, LockStar or Always On Display.
- Install available updates individually; module updates are separate from One UI firmware.
- Restart the phone and test the customization again.
The official Good Lock listing is available in Galaxy Store, although regional eligibility and live versions must be checked on the device.

If the phone is already updated and still misbehaves
- Update Good Lock and the affected modules, then restart.
- Disable NavStar transparent hints if the AI introduction screen or navigation controls are unresponsive.
- Reset or temporarily disable the affected Good Lock module to test Samsung’s default interface.
- For the keyboard symptom, disable Show keyboard buttons in navigation bar in Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Check for another system update using the Settings path above.
- On a foldable, test the cover screen and Secure Folder separately from the main display.
- If the fault remains, report it through Samsung Members or Samsung Support with the model, carrier, software build and module versions.
Do not factory-reset a phone as the first response to a known module-compatibility symptom. Back up data before any reset or major recovery step. Avoid APK mirrors as a primary solution: sideloaded packages can be mismatched, outdated or unsafe, and the Galaxy Store is Samsung’s intended distribution channel.

- Install and open Smart Switch on the computer.
- Connect the Galaxy phone or tablet with a USB cable.
- Allow Smart Switch to detect the device.
- Select Update if an update is offered.
- Keep the cable connected and do not use the device until the process finishes.
Smart Switch can install an available device update, but it is not a guaranteed cure for a Good Lock module defect when the phone’s firmware is already current.

There was no universal install-or-skip answer. Security fixes and new features may matter more than a temporary customization problem, while people who depend on NavStar, LockStar, AOD tweaks or foldable cover-screen shortcuts may prefer to prepare first.

- Update Good Lock and its modules before the system update.
- Record important customization settings and back up data.
- Ensure adequate battery, storage and a stable connection.
- After updating, test navigation, AOD, keyboard voice controls and (on foldables) cover-screen shortcuts.
Because the underlying report is dated March 31, 2024, current users should rely on their device’s present firmware and Galaxy Store listings rather than the historical module numbers quoted in that report.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
The reported defects were associated with specific Good Lock and interface interactions on supported Galaxy models. The source did not provide a complete model-by-model failure list, independently verify every user report, or confirm the final rollout status of every promised fix. A workaround is therefore not the same as a confirmed permanent repair. Model, carrier, country and software-version differences remain important when diagnosing any individual phone.
