The pre-CES 2026 report about HP and HyperX OMEN OLED monitors was substantially correct. HP and HyperX subsequently presented three models: the 240Hz OMEN OLED 27q, the QHD 500Hz OMEN OLED 27qs, and the 34-inch 3,440 × 1,440 OMEN OLED 34 with a 360Hz refresh rate. The 27qs is aimed at high-frame-rate esports, while the 34 is an ultrawide option for immersive gaming and mixed desktop use.

From December leak to official product range

On December 30, 2025, pre-CES reporting described a broader HyperX-branded OMEN monitor refresh, including an OMEN OLED 34, OMEN OLED 27qs, OMEN OLED 27q and a basic OMEN 24. The headline specification was a reported 500Hz refresh rate for the 27qs, alongside a 360Hz ultrawide OLED.

CES material from January 2026 and HP product records available by August confirmed three OLED models: the 27q, 27qs and 34. The OMEN 24 mentioned in the leak is not part of the prominently documented OLED lineup. The original story is therefore best understood as an early report that was later validated and refined, not as an unresolved rumor.

What the 500Hz OMEN OLED 27qs actually changes

It reduces frame intervals, not every kind of latency

At 240Hz, a new frame can arrive about every 4.17 milliseconds. At 360Hz, that interval is about 2.78ms; at 500Hz, it is 2ms. That can improve motion clarity and reduce the display-side wait between frames, but the gain is only visible when the game, CPU, GPU and input chain are delivering frames at comparable rates.

QHD makes 500Hz demanding

The 27qs combines 2,560 × 1,440 with a 500Hz ceiling. That is sharper than a 1080p esports display, but it requires substantially more rendering performance. HP lists 2,560 × 1,440 at both 360Hz and 500Hz, plus 1,920 × 1,080 at 500Hz, giving competitive players a way to prioritize frame rate over resolution.

HP HyperX OMEN 24 G2 Gaming Monitor, 23.8-inch FHD IPS, 180Hz, 1ms GtG, AMD FreeSync, 99% sRGB, Height Adjustable, HDMI 2.0 & DisplayPort 1.4

  • COMFORTABLE, FLEXIBLE SETUP: HP Eye Ease with Eyesafe and TÜV certification helps reduce blue light, while 100 mm height adjustment, -5 to +23-degree tilt, and +/-90-degree pivot support personalized comfort.
  • VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY: Connect gaming PCs and consoles through two HDMI 2.0 ports or DisplayPort 1.4, use the 3.5 mm audio-out jack for headphones, and mount with the 100 x 100 mm VESA pattern.

Players of esports titles that can sustain well above 240 frames per second may have a credible reason to choose it. In demanding single-player games, frame rates are often far below 500fps, so the panel will spend much of its time operating under its headline limit. A 500Hz specification is not automatically a visibly better experience than 240Hz for every game.

Check the entire signal path

The final manual should be checked for which DisplayPort or HDMI input supports each 500Hz mode, along with cable requirements. Frame-rate caps, poor frame pacing and CPU limits can also prevent a system from exploiting the display.

Why the OMEN OLED 34 may be the more versatile model

The 34 is a different proposition rather than a slower 27qs. Its 21:9, 3,440 × 1,440 canvas gives racing and simulation games more horizontal space, while also allowing side-by-side windows for work. Its 360Hz refresh rate remains extremely high, but the ultrawide resolution is demanding and some games offer imperfect 21:9 support or add side bars.

  • VESA DISPLAYHDR 400 - See details even in shadow and replicate reality on your screen with enhanced contrast, deeper shadows, and brighter highlights

V-Stripe is intended to address a desktop OLED weakness

CES-era technical coverage describes V-Stripe as a revised pixel structure intended to reduce color fringing and uneven subpixel rendering around text. That could make the 34 more comfortable for desktop use than some conventional QD-OLED layouts, but the available material establishes the technology’s presence, not a measured size of improvement. Independent text comparisons at normal viewing distances remain important for heavy readers and office users.

Productivity features are useful but need confirmation

HyperX and CES coverage associate the 34 with KVM functionality and 100W USB-C power delivery. Verify those features, their operating limits and regional configurations on the live product page before buying; the available listings do not establish that every specification is identical in every market.

OLED care, burn-in and what OLED Core Protect means

HyperX advertises OLED Core Protect across the range. OLED protection systems commonly use pixel shifting, compensation cycles, panel-care routines and brightness management to reduce uneven wear. They lower risk but cannot make permanent image retention impossible.

HP HyperX OMEN 24 G2 23.8-Inch 180Hz Gaming Monitor, 1ms GtG, FHD IPS, AMD FreeSync, 99% sRGB, Height-Adjustable Stand, HDMI 2.0 & DisplayPort 1.4

  • VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY: Connect gaming PCs and consoles through two HDMI 2.0 ports or DisplayPort 1.4, use the 3.5 mm audio-out jack for headphones, and mount with the 100 x 100 mm VESA pattern.

Static taskbars, news tickers, application chrome and game HUDs are the patterns most likely to create uneven aging over long periods. Buyers should allow the monitor’s care cycles to run and avoid disabling protective behavior without a clear reason. Most importantly, read the warranty for the country of purchase: the available material confirms the feature branding but does not establish a universal burn-in coverage period, exclusions or duration.

Specifications that still need verification

  • SDR and HDR peak brightness, including sustained full-screen brightness.
  • Exact OLED panel generation and measured response or input lag.
  • Adaptive-sync certification and operating range.
  • HDMI and DisplayPort versions and the input required for 500Hz.
  • USB-C implementation and power-delivery limits on each model.
  • KVM availability outside the 34-inch configuration.
  • Stand adjustment, power consumption, fan behavior and operating noise.
  • Real-game HDR tone mapping, color volume and text clarity.
  • Regional pricing, release dates, stock and burn-in warranty terms.

DisplayHDR True Black 500, listed for the 34, is a certification target and should not be read as a promise of 500-nit full-screen brightness. Likewise, the 0.03ms figure is an HP/HyperX claim rather than an independent input-lag or response-time test.

Which OMEN OLED should you choose?

Choose the 27qs for esports

It is the logical choice for 16:9 competitive players whose hardware and games can sustain very high frame rates. Its premium is difficult to justify if most play remains below 240fps or if static productivity dominates the day.

Best Value

Choose the 27q for a balanced OLED setup

The 27q keeps QHD resolution, OLED contrast and a 240Hz refresh rate without making 500fps the central requirement. It is the broadly sensible option for users who mix competitive games with modern single-player titles.

Choose the 34 for ultrawide and mixed use

The 34 fits racing, simulation, immersive games, multitasking and users who value a single expansive display. It is a poor match for players who require universal 16:9 compatibility or whose GPU cannot drive high frame rates at 3,440 × 1,440.

Consider LCD if desktop work dominates

A high-quality LCD remains the safer category choice for buyers who are especially concerned about static content, burn-in policy or text rendering. The decision should be based on the warranty and daily workload, not on refresh-rate marketing alone.

Price and availability

Official pages establish the products and core specifications, but they do not provide a reliable, universal current price for all three models. HP regional stores can list a product before stock, pricing or warranty terms match another country. Check the relevant HP OMEN monitor directory or the HyperX CES page for the market where you will buy, and verify the warranty document before treating any burn-in protection as coverage.

Verdict

The important update is not simply that HP has a 500Hz OLED. The pre-CES leak became a three-model range with distinct purposes: the 27q is the balanced 240Hz QHD option, the 27qs is a specialized QHD esports display, and the 34 brings 360Hz ultrawide QD-OLED with V-Stripe and desktop-oriented features. Buy the 27qs only when your games and hardware can exploit it; otherwise the 27q offers a more practical balance, while the 34 is the intriguing choice for immersive and mixed-use setups.
