“One Block Horror” is used for multiple projects. Choosing by name alone is the fastest way to create an incompatible client and server. Use the project description and file name to confirm what you are installing.
| Project | Minecraft and loader | Horror approach | Memory or server notes | Activity and scale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Horror OneBlock on Modrinth | Java Edition 1.19.2, Forge; client and server support | Sanity, temperature, stamina and light affect survival. Hallucinations begin when sanity falls. | The listing says to allocate at least 6 GB of RAM. It runs on the Oneblock mod by Crepi. A complete reset requires a fresh world copy. | Best-documented baseline for the procedure in this guide. |
| One Block Horror on Modrinth | Check the current file’s listed version and loader before installing. | A single starting block leads to dimensions, staged progression, automation, bosses, eerie sounds and escalating threats. | Do not assume the 1.19.2 files, settings or server archive from Horror OneBlock apply here. | Separate project with a different progression emphasis. |
| HORROR – One Block (dweller) on CurseForge | Forge 1.19.2 and 1.20.1 | Named threats include CANTBREATHE, Cartoon dweller, Cave dweller, From the fog, Goatman, Him/Herobrine, Paranormal activity, The anomaly, The boiled one, The end of herobrine, The knocker and Whispering spirits. | The listing gives 8 GB system RAM and 4 GB allocated RAM as minimum recommended specifications. | Recorded 681,556 downloads on CurseForge in 2026; its latest 1.19.2 release was updated October 13, 2026. |
| One Block Horror by Zokaritas on CurseForge | Forge 1.19.2 only | Horror monsters stalk players at night. Torches must be lit with a matchbox, can go out, and sleeping is impossible. | Provides a separate oneblockhorror-serverfiles-1.3.zip. |
Recorded 995,691 downloads on CurseForge in 2024. |
The rest of this article uses Horror OneBlock for Forge 1.19.2 as the reference build. If you choose another project, repeat the version, loader, memory and server-file checks against that project’s own listing.

What the One Block loop adds to horror survival
The underlying One Block mod starts you in the void on one breakable block. As its project description puts it: “You spawn in the void on a single block. Break it, and it comes back — as something else.” Each break can advance the island through progression phases, introduce new drops or mobs, change the biome, open portals and eventually support automation and boss encounters.
That loop makes a horror pack unusually concentrated. There is little safe terrain, every resource comes through the regenerating block, and the island’s lighting and expansion determine how much room you have to react. In Horror OneBlock, survival pressure is not limited to enemy health: sanity, temperature and stamina also matter, while low sanity can produce hallucinations. Light is a gameplay resource as well as a visibility aid.

Systems to plan around
- Sanity: Falling sanity can trigger hallucinations. Treat unexplained sights or sounds as a possible mechanic before assuming a rendering error.
- Temperature: Environmental conditions can become a survival constraint, so do not spend every early resource on decoration.
- Stamina: Sprinting and repeated movement may be limited. Keep an escape route and avoid exhausting yourself before a night cycle.
- Light: Expand the platform and maintain lighting as soon as resources permit. Darkness is a direct risk in a pack built around night threats.
- Progression: Mob waves, biome changes, portals, configurable drop tables and new dimensions mean the island changes over time rather than remaining a static skyblock.
Requirements before installing
Install Minecraft Java Edition and choose one exact release. For the baseline used here, that means Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge 1.19.2. Do not launch a 1.20.1 profile and then copy 1.19.2 mods into it; the loader and game version are part of the pack identity.
- A legitimate Minecraft Java Edition installation.
- A Forge profile matching the pack’s Minecraft version.
- The exact client archive for the chosen project.
- At least 6 GB assigned to the launcher for Horror OneBlock, subject to your computer’s total memory.
- Java 17 for a dedicated Forge 1.19.2 server.
- For multiplayer, access to the server machine’s firewall and router so TCP 25565 can be forwarded.
Keep a copy of the downloaded archive and record its exact version number. That makes it possible to rebuild a client after an update or restore a server from backup.

How to install One Block Horror on the client
- Select the project and release. Open the project’s files page, confirm “Minecraft 1.19.2” and “Forge” for the baseline build, and download the client archive. Do not use a server-files archive in the launcher.
- Install Forge. Install the Forge 1.19.2 profile through the Minecraft Launcher or a supported modpack application. If you use the official launcher, open Installations, edit or create the Forge 1.19.2 installation, and verify that its game directory is the one where the pack will be installed.
- Import the client pack. Use the modpack application’s import function, or follow that project’s documented extraction method. The resulting instance should contain the pack’s mods, configuration files and resource files; do not mix files from another One Block project.
- Set memory. In the instance settings, set the maximum heap to at least 6 GB for Horror OneBlock. In a launcher that exposes JVM arguments, a typical equivalent is
-Xmx6G. Leave enough RAM for the operating system and other applications; assigning nearly all physical memory can cause swapping and worse performance. - Launch once without extras. Start the instance and wait for the title screen. This first run creates configuration files and reveals missing dependencies before you add shaders, HUDs or texture packs.
- Create the world required by the pack. Start a new world from the pack’s intended world-creation flow. Horror OneBlock’s listing states that a full reset requires a fresh world copy, so deleting a few blocks or changing a setting is not a substitute for restoring a clean copy.
- Add optional client-only modifications last. Test the unmodified pack first. Add a shader, HUD or texture mod one at a time and keep a note of each change so you can remove the last addition if the game stops loading.
How much RAM does One Block Horror need?
| Use case | Published guidance | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Horror OneBlock client | At least 6 GB allocated in the launcher (Modrinth listing). | Set the instance maximum heap to 6 GB, then increase only if monitoring shows memory pressure and your computer has headroom. |
| HORROR – One Block (dweller) | 8 GB system RAM and 4 GB allocated RAM listed as minimum recommended specifications (CurseForge listing). | Do not confuse 4 GB allocated with 8 GB installed in the computer; they describe different limits. |
| Forge 1.19.2 dedicated server for a small group | About 6 GB recommended by the documented hosting workflow. | Set the start script’s heap values to the amount your machine can sustain, leaving memory for the operating system. |
| Five to ten players | About 8 GB server RAM recommended by that hosting workflow. | Increase allocation only after confirming the machine has sufficient physical RAM and that tick performance, not merely heap usage, is the bottleneck. |
More memory does not repair an incorrect loader, a mismatched mod list or a broken world. Treat the published figures as starting points for the named project and group size, not universal requirements for every pack carrying “One Block Horror” in its title.
One Block Horror server setup with Forge 1.19.2
The dedicated server must use the server-files archive supplied for the same project and release as the clients. A client zip may contain a manifest for an installer but not the mod jars, configuration and start script needed to run a server.

- Download the dedicated archive. On the project’s files page, choose the server-files download. For the Zokaritas project, the separate file is named
oneblockhorror-serverfiles-1.3.zip; other projects use different names. Never rename a client archive and treat it as server files. - Create a clean server folder. Extract the archive into a new directory with a short path. Keep the original zip outside the live folder so you can rebuild it if a configuration is damaged.
- Install and verify Java 17. Open a terminal in the server directory and run
java -version. The output must show Java 17. A different Java version can prevent Forge 1.19.2 from starting even when every mod is present. - Install Forge if the archive requires it. If the package includes a Forge installer rather than a ready server, run
java -jar forge-installer.jar --installServer. Use the actual installer filename if it differs. - Start the server once. Run the generated start script or the command supplied with the archive. The first run normally creates files and stops while the EULA is still declined.
- Accept the EULA. Open
eula.txt, change the value toeula=true, save it, and start the server again. Only the server owner should make this legal acceptance. - Set the heap. Edit the generated start script and set the maximum heap to roughly 6 GB for a small group, or the amount appropriate to the selected project. Keep the minimum heap conservative enough that the operating system remains responsive.
- Confirm the pack files. The server directory should contain the pack’s mod jars and configuration files. Remove accidental client-only additions such as shaders, HUD overlays or purely client-side visual mods from the server’s
modsfolder. - Configure networking. Allow the Java server through the host firewall and forward TCP 25565 on the router to the server machine’s local address. Players on the same network can usually connect with the local address; remote players need the public address and the forwarded port.
- Start and test locally. Join from a client on the same machine or network first. Check that the world loads, the One Block regenerates and the expected horror systems appear before inviting remote players.
Keep every multiplayer installation identical
For a reliable session, compare the complete pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build and mod list—not merely the project name. A player using a 1.20.1 dweller build cannot join a 1.19.2 Horror OneBlock server, and a client-side “helpful” mod can still create a handshake or registry mismatch.
- Give friends the exact project page and file version you installed.
- Have everyone launch the same Forge profile.
- Distribute configuration changes as a group; do not let one player silently overwrite common configs.
- Keep shaders, HUDs and other client-only additions on players’ computers, not in the dedicated server’s mod folder.
- Back up the world before changing the pack version, Forge build or major configuration.
- When a server is updated, update every client before attempting to connect.
Troubleshooting One Block Horror multiplayer
The server will not start
- Run
java -versionand confirm Java 17. - Check that the Forge build matches Minecraft 1.19.2 and the selected pack release.
- Read the first error in the server log, not only the final “crash” line. Missing dependencies and duplicate mods are usually named earlier.
- Confirm that the server archive—not the client archive—was extracted.
- Remove shaders, HUDs and other client-only mods from the server.
- Lower the heap if the host is exhausting physical memory; increase it only when the machine has capacity and the log indicates memory pressure.
A client cannot join
- Compare the full pack version and Forge build character for character.
- Check that both sides use the same Minecraft version.
- Compare the
modsand configuration sets for accidental additions or removals. - Make sure the player is connecting to the correct address and TCP 25565 is forwarded through the firewall.
- Test with optional client-only mods removed. Reintroduce them one at a time after a successful connection.
The island lags or ticks slowly
A void-style world has little terrain to pregenerate, which can reduce one common source of load. It does not make the server immune to lag: automation, chunk loaders, mob farms and repeated horror events can still consume tick time. Reduce unnecessary always-active machinery, keep farms contained, and watch server tick performance while adding new systems. Increasing RAM alone will not fix a CPU-bound tick loop.
The world needs a clean reset
Stop the server before replacing world data. Copy the current world folder somewhere safe, then restore a fresh world copy from the original pack or backup. Horror OneBlock’s listing specifically states that a full reset requires a fresh world copy; changing the spawn area does not recreate the original progression state.
A safe play-with-friends checklist
- Choose one named project and write down its Minecraft version, loader and file version.
- Install the matching client pack and allocate the published memory amount.
- Launch once to the title screen, then create or restore the required fresh world.
- Build the dedicated server from the matching server-files archive.
- Verify Java 17, accept
eula=true, set server memory and open TCP 25565. - Test one local connection before sharing the remote address.
- Send every player the same pack archive or import instructions.
- Back up the world before updates, major configuration changes or experiments with automation.
Which project fits your preferred horror style?
| If you want… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sanity and hallucination pressure layered onto resource progression | Horror OneBlock on Modrinth, Forge 1.19.2 | Its listing explicitly documents sanity, temperature, stamina and light systems, plus a 6 GB launcher baseline. |
| A named-dweller catalogue and a choice of Forge 1.19.2 or 1.20.1 | HORROR – One Block (dweller) | Its listing identifies the included horror entities and publishes separate system and allocation guidance. |
| Matchbox-lit torches, no sleeping and night-stalking monsters | One Block Horror by Zokaritas | Those rules are part of its project description, and it supplies a specifically named server-files archive. |
| Dimensions, staged progression, automation and bosses as the main arc | The separate Modrinth One Block Horror project | Its description emphasizes those progression features rather than the sanity-focused description of Horror OneBlock. |
The practical choice is the one for which you can obtain both the exact client and dedicated server files for the same release. Once a world has been created, changing projects is not a drop-in upgrade: back up first and expect a new world to be the safest route.
