Use nested or local waits when sections can load independently. Keep pending and error states distinct: a spinner is not an error strategy, and a boundary does not necessarily track every promise.
Start with the reveal you want users to see
Before choosing a component or API, decide what should happen while data is pending. If a page’s heading, summary, and results only make sense together, they can share one loading boundary. If the page shell should remain visible while a chart or recommendations load separately, keep those regions outside the same reveal group or give them their own boundaries.

This is a UI decision, not a rule to put a boundary around every component. React’s Suspense documentation recommends matching boundary granularity to the loading sequence users should experience. A broad boundary groups content; nested or local boundaries allow progressive reveal.

First make async work visible to the framework
A reactive input changing does not automatically mean that any loading boundary will notice the resulting request. The request must use an async path the framework tracks. A resource or data-loading primitive can connect changing inputs to refetching and expose pending and failure information to the UI.
#1 Best Overall
React: Suspense needs a supported suspending read
In React, a Suspense boundary responds to a Suspense-enabled framework or a supported cached Promise read during rendering. A fetch started in an ordinary Effect or event handler does not activate Suspense by itself. Wrapping a component that uses an Effect-based fetch in <Suspense> therefore does not make that fetch show the boundary’s fallback; use an integration that supports Suspense or manage that request’s state directly.
Solid: resources connect reactive sources to async state
Solid’s createResource represents an asynchronous value with reactive state, including loading and error information. Its fetching guide describes a source signal change triggering an internal fetch. When only one region needs custom pending or error UI, use the resource’s state for that region rather than making the whole page wait.
For Solid’s suspense-tracked reads, the nearest Suspense boundary handles pending dependencies beneath it. Nested boundaries can therefore separate a subsection’s reveal from its parent. Solid also documents that the subtree remains active while the boundary is pending, so a hidden subtree is not necessarily an inactive one.
Solid Router: route data can report pending and failure separately
Solid Router’s createAsync uses a promise-returning resource fetcher and tracks synchronous reactive reads inside it, which can cause the fetch to rerun. Its pending and error guidance sends pending work to the nearest Suspense boundary and errors to an ErrorBoundary. That division makes the loading boundary responsible for waiting and the error boundary responsible for failure presentation.
Rank #3
Vue: know which dependencies Suspense supports
Vue’s Suspense guide describes dependencies including async setup() (also top-level await in <script setup>) and async components. Vue labels Suspense experimental, so verify its current status and behavior for the Vue version in use rather than treating it as a settled, cross-framework contract.
Choose between one wait and progressive reveal
Use a parent boundary when several tracked async reads form one coherent view and showing only part of that view would be confusing. Put a boundary around a subsection when it can make sense on its own and the rest of the page should not wait for it. A local resource conditional is often better still when just one component needs a tailored refresh indicator or loading message.
Think of each boundary as a reveal group. The decision is not “one boundary per component” versus “one boundary per app”; it is which content can safely appear together, and which content benefits from arriving independently.

Give failure its own route through the UI
Pending means the result has not arrived; failure means it did not arrive successfully. Provide a useful error state through the framework’s error boundary or error-handling path instead of allowing a spinner to stand in for both. This distinction is explicit in Solid Router’s pending/error routing. Vue’s guide also states that its Suspense component does not itself handle errors, so Vue applications need a separate error strategy.

Decide what remains visible during a refresh
An initial load and a later refresh need not look alike. Replacing useful content with a full fallback may be appropriate before the first result exists, but disruptive after the page is already readable. Choose deliberately whether to keep current content visible, show a small local indicator, or replace the region while new data resolves.
React documents transition and deferred-value behavior that can avoid showing a fallback again for some updates. Vue documents different behavior: after a Suspense boundary has resolved, a root replacement can keep the previous content while new dependencies resolve, with timeout behavior controlling when the fallback appears. These are framework-specific mechanisms, not interchangeable guarantees.

- Identify the async source. Use a framework-supported resource or data-loading path, and determine which reactive inputs trigger a refetch.
- Map the intended reveal. Group only the regions that should become visible together; let independent content reveal separately where that improves the experience.
- Place the nearest boundary deliberately. Check which boundary receives the pending state, especially when boundaries are nested.
- Design failure separately. Route errors to an error boundary or explicit error UI instead of leaving pending UI on screen.
- Specify refresh behavior. Decide what happens to already-rendered content while updated data is pending, using only the behavior supported by the framework and version in use.
The phrase “reactive graph” is a useful way to think about changing inputs and dependent work, but it does not name one shared async model across React, Solid, Solid Router, and Vue. Their tracking rules and boundary behavior differ; select the framework’s documented path before deciding where the UI should wait.
