Choose old.reddit.com if you prefer the classic layout or want a direct route to r/all; choose the current reddit.com experience if Reddit’s documented accessibility and display controls matter more. Moderators should compare the specific tools they use, because some community-styling and moderation workflows differ between interfaces.
What “Old Reddit” and “New Reddit” mean today
Old Reddit refers to Reddit’s classic interface at old.reddit.com. For the other side of the comparison, “current Reddit” is the clearest name for the live default web experience at reddit.com. The older label “new Reddit” can be confusing: the material here does not establish that new.reddit.com is a separate, currently available interface.
Reddit’s official materials describe differences between these surfaces, but do not provide a complete, current feature matrix or a direct independent usability and performance comparison. That means a universal winner—and broad claims that either interface is faster, cleaner, or easier—are not established.
How the interfaces differ for browsing
Finding posts and communities
Reddit describes Home as a feed from communities you’ve joined, Popular as popular posts, and News as news shared across Reddit communities. All is a less-filtered feed of popular posts. Reddit’s help page points users to old.reddit.com/r/all for All, where sexually explicit posts are filtered, other popular NSFW posts may appear, and users can filter communities. If that particular feed is part of how you browse, Old Reddit has a documented route to it; that does not make it a better interface overall.

Accessibility and display preferences
Reddit’s accessibility information for reddit.com lists screen-reader compatibility, video and GIF autoplay settings, reduced motion, light and dark modes, autogenerated subtitles, and community colors and contrast. These options make the current web experience a practical place to start if you need or prefer those controls. The documentation does not establish that the same controls are available on old.reddit.com. If a specific accessibility feature is essential, verify it on your device and with your assistive technology.
Community styling and moderation
For moderators and community owners, the choice can depend on the task. Reddit’s moderator documentation says, “CSS – not yet available on new Reddit,” and directs moderators who want to style a community on the classic version to tools available while viewing old.reddit.com. This concerns community appearance—not a requirement for ordinary readers to use the classic interface.

Tools can also arrive on different surfaces at different times. Reddit’s August 2025 changelog, for example, said a ban-evasion report flow was already available on old.reddit.com and planned for reddit.com by the end of that month. That was a historical rollout note, not confirmation of present-day availability. Check the interface you use for the particular moderation workflow you need.

Does one interface browse faster?
There is no established Old Reddit-versus-current Reddit speed comparison here. Reddit’s October 4, 2023 announcement said its mobile-web search update was 85% faster based on the company’s testing. That result concerns that search update on mobile web; it is not a benchmark of the two interfaces, a general page-load figure, or an independent comparison.
