Choose Okta Workforce Identity for employee, contractor, and partner access. For customer sign-up and login, compare Auth0 with Okta Customer Identity—a separate customer identity product. The right choice depends on who signs in, how much your team needs to customize identity flows, and the federation, security, support, and commercial terms your application requires.

First, distinguish the three products

“Okta vs Auth0” can mean different things because Okta Workforce Identity, Okta Customer Identity, and Auth0 serve different identity populations and use cases.

Product Primary users and job What to evaluate
Okta Workforce Identity Employees, contractors, and partners accessing workplace apps and resources. Workforce single sign-on (SSO), multifactor authentication (MFA), onboarding and offboarding, governance, device access, and privileged access.
Okta Customer Identity Customers signing in to an organization’s applications and services. Customer authentication and identity needs, including the required operating model, features, and commercial scope.
Auth0 Customers of consumer or business applications. Developer customization, application integration, customer authentication, and B2B organization and federation needs.

Okta’s product comparison describes Okta Customer Identity as “enterprise-first” and Auth0 as “developer-first.” That is Okta’s characterization, not an independent finding or a guarantee of implementation effort; validate it against your architecture and team.

Choose based on who is signing in

For employees, contractors, and partners

Start with Okta Workforce Identity when the central problem is managing access to work systems. Okta lists capabilities including SSO, MFA and Adaptive MFA, Device Access, Universal Directory, Lifecycle Management, Identity Governance, and Privileged Access. Match the capabilities you actually need to the specific product and plan; the product list alone does not establish that every feature is included in every tier.

For customers of a consumer app or SaaS product

Compare Auth0 and Okta Customer Identity for customer sign-up, login, account recovery, and authentication within your application. These are customer identity offerings, not replacements to assume are interchangeable with Okta Workforce Identity.

For business customers with separate identity needs

Auth0 can support B2B application workflows through Organizations, which provides APIs and SDKs for organization-specific experiences. If each business customer needs its own identity provider, membership, branding, or administrator workflow, evaluate how the organization model and the exact login and federation flows fit your application. Check plan availability and limits before committing.

Compare implementation style and required integrations

Okta’s comparison frames Customer Identity as an enterprise-oriented, lower-code, out-of-the-box approach for IT administrators, and Auth0 as a developer-oriented approach with more granular customization through code, including Actions. Use that distinction to guide a technical evaluation—not as a substitute for testing the configuration and maintenance your particular application will require.

For B2B federation, confirm the providers, protocols, and organization-specific behavior you need. Auth0 documents enterprise identity providers including Okta, SAML, and OIDC. Its documentation says B2B and Enterprise plans allow unlimited Okta Enterprise Connections, subject to system limitations; verify current entitlements and applicable limits for your plan.

Can Okta and Auth0 work together?

Yes. Auth0 documents Okta as a supported enterprise identity provider. This can be relevant when a customer-facing application needs to let a business customer authenticate through its Okta setup while the application uses Auth0 for customer identity. The right design depends on the required connection type, organization behavior, plan entitlements, and system limits; test the complete flow rather than assuming that a supported provider alone covers every requirement.

Use a requirements checklist before choosing

Compare products against the same scope. In particular, establish:

  • User population: workforce seats, external customers, or both—and whether B2B organizations need distinct identity settings.
  • Authentication and application needs: required applications, protocols, MFA, and phishing-resistant authentication requirements.
  • Identity operations: workforce provisioning and offboarding, lifecycle management, access governance, and audit needs.
  • Customization: which sign-in, recovery, and organization-specific workflows need custom logic, and who will build and maintain it.
  • Federation: required enterprise identity providers and SAML or OIDC flows, including per-customer connections where applicable.
  • Operations and assurance: audit and log retention, support and SLA, compliance and deployment requirements, and the number of environments and tenants.
  • Commercial scope: the billing unit, usage allowances, feature entitlements, support level, contract duration, and any contract minimum.

Published prices use different models

The following are vendor-published prices on pages accessed October 4, 2026. They are reference points, not equivalent offers or a buyer-specific quote; verify current pricing, regional availability, plan terms, and entitlements directly with each vendor.

These figures do not describe matching scopes: Okta Workforce is priced per workforce user with annual billing; Okta Customer Identity has an enterprise base plus usage-based add-ons; and Auth0 lists monthly self-service tiers with MAU entitlements and custom enterprise options. Ask vendors to quote the same user population, application scope, security features, support, and contract duration.
