Check the service’s own privacy terms before submitting sensitive information, and use any salary analysis as one input—not a promise of what an employer will pay.
What OfferLens says it does
The public OfferLens page describes a job-offer research tool that uses the company, job title, salary and location, with an optional CV upload. It says it searches Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn, Levels.fyi, Blind and Comparably. That description identifies the inputs and named sources, but does not explain how results are calculated or how closely they match a particular role, seniority or location.

The “privacy-first” framing should therefore be treated as a question to verify, not an established privacy guarantee. The service page does not specify whether submitted information is retained, when it is deleted, who can access it or whether it is shared. Before uploading a CV—which may contain contact details and employment history—look for current privacy terms that answer those questions. If they are unclear, leave the CV out and provide only the minimum information needed.

A separate Chrome extension called “OfferLens: Salary & CV Match on LinkedIn” has its own listing. That listing says a CV stays in the browser and is sent while an analysis runs, and warns that salary estimates are a guide rather than a guarantee. Those statements describe the extension, not the myofferlens.com service; they cannot establish the website’s data handling or methodology.

How to use an offer checker without outsourcing your decision
A useful reality check is not just “Is this salary competitive?” It is “Does this complete offer work for me, given the role, location, personal costs and uncertainty in the available comparisons?” Harvard FAS’s Mignone Center for Career Success recommends identifying personal needs, researching compensation and cost of living, considering the full offer and planning negotiation timing. It also points candidates toward adviser support for specific situations.
- Set your own needs first. List the costs and priorities that matter to you, such as housing, debt, healthcare and transportation. Decide what you need from the job beyond pay, including role responsibilities, growth and workplace conditions.
- Build a realistic compensation range. Research comparable work early and account for location and cost of living. Set a low-to-high range that reflects your needs and the evidence you can find; do not treat a single online estimate as a definitive market rate.
- Enter only information you are comfortable sharing. The website’s stated inputs include company, title, offered pay and location, with CV upload optional. Review its privacy terms before providing personal documents or other sensitive details.
- Compare the complete offer. Put base pay and any other stated compensation alongside benefits, location costs, non-salary terms, role fit and your confidence in each benchmark. There is no universal weighting formula: the right trade-off depends on your priorities.
- Decide what to clarify or negotiate. Identify gaps between the offer and your priorities, then make a specific request grounded in your research. Timing and approach matter; seek advice from a career adviser or job-offer negotiation coach if your circumstances are complex.
How to compare two or more offers
Compare like with like and keep estimates separate from confirmed terms. A salary benchmark is evidence to examine, not an offer from the employer. If an amount or benefit is unspecified, ask the employer rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
Rank #2
| What to compare | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Compensation | What base salary and other compensation are explicitly stated? Which parts are guaranteed, and which depend on conditions? |
| Benefits and non-salary terms | Which benefits, leave, schedule or other terms matter to you, and what has the employer confirmed? |
| Location and personal costs | How do housing, transportation, healthcare and other costs affect what the offer means for your circumstances? |
| Role and workplace fit | Which role better fits your responsibilities, career direction and preferred working conditions? |
| Confidence in comparisons | How closely do the sources match the role, seniority and location? What is known versus estimated? |
There is no source-supported formula that assigns the same weight to salary, benefits, location and role fit for every candidate. Make the trade-offs visible, then weigh them against your own priorities.

A 2025 field experiment by Amanda Y. Agan, Bo Cowgill and Laura K. Gee involved hundreds of recruiters and more than 2,000 job applications. It randomized salary questions and candidate disclosures and reported effects on offers and recruiter perceptions. The study is evidence that disclosure can matter in the setting examined; it does not establish a universal rule to disclose or withhold salary history. Consider the relevant law, the employer’s question and your circumstances rather than relying on a blanket negotiation tip. Read the study at the American Economic Association.

Check the rules where the job is posted
Pay-transparency requirements vary by jurisdiction and can have exceptions. For example, Ontario’s official Employment Standards Act guide says that, from January 1, 2026, many publicly advertised job postings must include expected compensation information and say whether AI is used to screen, assess or select applicants. The guide lists an exception where expected compensation or the top of the range exceeds $200,000 per year. It also says these rules do not require an employer to offer a candidate compensation at the advertised level or within the posted range. This is Ontario-specific information, not a general rule for other locations. Check the applicable official guidance for the job’s jurisdiction. Ontario’s job-posting guide.

If you need to compare terms, review benefits or seek advice, ask the employer when they need your answer and whether an extension is possible. Harvard’s career guidance includes the questions “Should I negotiate?”, “How do I compare offers?” and “Can I ask for more time?” as practical parts of evaluating an offer. For advice tailored to your circumstances, a career adviser or job-offer negotiation coach may help; guidance from a tool or general resource is not personalized financial or legal advice.
