Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition is the most complete way for newcomers to enter Sucker Punch’s samurai adventure: it combines the PS5 campaign with the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion, the Most Wanted survival mode, and online co-op. For returning players, the case is narrower. The digital-only upgrade is worth weighing if its new story and replayable modes appeal to you, but it does not radically change the underlying game—and some version 2.0 improvements arrive for all owners without an upgrade.
What’s included in Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition?
Sony’s Complete Edition announcement describes a PS5 package containing the main game, online co-op mode Legends, Echoes of Sekigahara, Most Wanted, content previously included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, and the Charm of Hokkyokusei. It also lists Watanabe Mode tracks, photo-mode stamps, New Game+ cosmetics, and new trophies tied to the expansion and Most Wanted.

For newcomers: a strong all-in-one entry point
If you have not bought the game, Complete Edition is the straightforward choice when you want the campaign alongside its story expansion, survival content, and co-op. The additions broaden the package in different directions: Echoes of Sekigahara extends Atsu’s story, while Most Wanted and Legends offer combat challenges and multiplayer modes. Whether those modes suit you depends on your interest in story, repeatable encounters, and playing online with others.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
The underlying appeal is the return to Ezo: a distinct setting, weapon-based combat, and an exploration-led journey. GamesRadar’s reviewer, assessing the original 2025 game rather than the Complete Edition additions, praised its Ezo setting and weapon-switching combat, while criticizing some repetitive combat padding, drawn-out climbing, and moments of over-directed exploration (GamesRadar’s 2025 review). Those are one outlet’s judgments, not a universal verdict, but they help set expectations for the base game that remains at the center of this edition.
For existing owners: pay for the additions, not the patch
If you already own the base game, compare your local upgrade price with the specific additions you expect to play. MeriStation’s October 2, 2026 review judged Complete Edition more appealing to newcomers than to players who had already finished the campaign, and said the package does not radically transform the underlying game (MeriStation’s Complete Edition review). That is an editorial assessment, but it points to the key distinction: this is an expanded package, not a new version of the core adventure.
Also separate paid content from the free update. Sony says features of patch v2.0, including Beauty of Yōtei and quality-of-life improvements, arrive for all owners; those features do not all require buying Complete Edition. The upgrade makes most sense when Echoes of Sekigahara, Most Wanted, or other included content you do not already own is worth the additional local cost to you.

- Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
- Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
- Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.
Should you buy Complete Edition or the upgrade?
Sony offers existing owners a digital-only Complete Edition Upgrade. The full Complete Edition is announced in disc and digital formats in the territories covered by Sony’s announcement. The practical comparison is:
| Your situation | What to consider |
|---|---|
| You do not own the game | Compare the full edition’s local price and contents against buying the base game separately. The Complete Edition bundles the campaign and listed additions. |
| You own the base game, but not Digital Deluxe content | Check whether the upgrade’s included expansion, modes, and previously Digital Deluxe content justify its digital-only price in your market. |
| You already own Digital Deluxe content | Account for the content you already have before valuing the upgrade; do not treat the complete bundle as entirely new to your library. |
| You mainly want the story expansion | Focus on Echoes of Sekigahara: it adds a story area and material about Atsu’s past and the Battle of Sekigahara, as described by the Store listing. |
| You want repeatable combat or co-op | Consider Most Wanted’s wave-and-boss survival structure and Legends’ online modes. Legends multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus, according to Sony’s announcement. |
| You prefer a disc | Check whether the full disc edition is sold in your territory. The existing-owner upgrade is digital only. |
Sony’s October 1, 2026 announcement gives regional pricing in Southeast Asian currencies; those figures are not US or global prices. Check the PlayStation Store for your account’s market and confirm the edition contents and patch timing applicable in your territory. Sony’s date notes specify October 1, 2026 globally and October 2 in some territories for patch v2.0 and associated additions; the post says Echoes and Most Wanted arrive with a patch on October 2 for the covered release. Availability and timing can therefore differ by market.
Is there a physical disc version?
Yes, Sony says the full Complete Edition is offered as both disc and digital editions in the territories covered by its announcement. That does not establish current stock or availability in every country, so check local retailers for the exact PS5 edition and format. Existing owners deciding to upgrade should note that Sony describes the upgrade as digital only.

Downloading content requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account, according to Sony’s announcement. Legends online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. These requirements apply to the online aspects; a disc preference does not remove them.

Sony says the game supports DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and names PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and advanced ray tracing among its PS5 Pro features. These are platform features, not reasons to buy a Complete Edition upgrade if the new content does not interest you.
Sony also announced limited-edition Ghost of Yōtei PS5 console bundles and DualSense controllers. Its October 2025 US launch announcement listed historical launch MSRPs of $599.99 for the console bundle and $84.99 for the controller; those figures are not current prices or a statement of present inventory (Sony’s hardware announcement). The accessories are optional themed hardware, not requirements for playing.

Verdict: a savage and worthy return, especially for newcomers
Complete Edition makes a persuasive case as a new player’s entry point because it brings together Atsu’s campaign, an additional story chapter, survival challenges, and online co-op. The package’s value for returning players is more personal: it depends on how much they want the expansion and replay modes, what Digital Deluxe content they already own, and whether their local upgrade price feels fair. The new edition broadens the journey into Ezo, but the evidence does not support calling it a fundamental reinvention of the original game.
Sucker Punch studio head Brian Fleming described the intended story as “a story of healing and redemption that runs deeper than vengeance,” told through a new hero at the edge of Japan (Sony’s launch press release). That is the creator’s stated ambition, not proof that every player will feel the same effect. Still, as an editorial judgment, the Complete Edition is a savage and worthy return to Ezo when you are entering for the first time—or when Atsu’s unfinished past and the added modes give you a real reason to go back.
