If OBS drops frames while streaming to YouTube over JioFiber, the counter means the connection cannot reliably deliver the configured bitrate—or the path to YouTube’s ingest server is unstable. It does not, by itself, prove JioFiber is at fault. Start by checking bitrate against dependable upload, then compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet and run Jio’s diagnostics before escalating.
What OBS dropped frames tell you
The OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, explains: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” In practical terms, OBS is failing to deliver some of the stream data on time.

That points to a network or bitrate problem, not automatically to the ISP. The cause could be Wi-Fi, the router, another device uploading, VPN or security software, network drivers, the intervening route, or YouTube ingest. OBS cannot identify which one from the dropped-frame counter alone.

Jio’s support guidance does not establish or diagnose the route from an individual JioFiber connection to YouTube’s ingest servers. There is no basis here to claim that Jio is throttling YouTube or that a particular Jio route is faulty.

Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
Use YouTube’s recommendation for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually stream, then compare it with stable upload capacity—not just the highest result from a brief speed test. YouTube’s published H.264 figures are recommendations for ingest, not a guarantee that a given connection can sustain them continuously.
| H.264 output | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These values are YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, checked in 2026; YouTube lists different figures for AV1 and H.265/HEVC. Check the current YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for your codec and settings.

OBS’s starting rule is to set video bitrate to about 75% of total upload speed. Treat that as a starting point, not a guarantee: upload can dip, and household activity can compete for capacity. If your stable upload cannot support the recommendation for your chosen output, reduce bitrate and, if needed, resolution or frame rate. A lower, sustainable output is generally more useful than a higher setting that repeatedly loses delivery.
Check the encoder settings that matter
- Protocol: YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS streaming and recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery.
- Codec: YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video. Match the bitrate recommendation to the codec selected in your OBS version.
- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says it should not exceed four seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps. If upload is marginal, try a lower frame rate and resolution together with a lower bitrate.
Settings labels and available encoder choices can vary by OBS version and hardware. YouTube’s current encoder guidance is the reference for supported combinations.

Run controlled tests to isolate the problem
Change one condition at a time and keep the stream settings and test period comparable. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Use a test with motion and audio similar to the real broadcast, and note OBS’s dropped-frame percentage and when it rises.
- Record a baseline. Note the dropped-frame percentage and timing, output resolution, frame rate, codec, video bitrate, and whether the computer uses Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Also note any YouTube stream-health messages.
- Test a safer bitrate. Compare the configured bitrate with the YouTube recommendation for your codec and output, and with stable upload capacity. If the setting is close to the upload ceiling, lower it and repeat the same test. If necessary, lower resolution or frame rate as well.
- Compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi. If the computer is wireless, connect it to the router by Ethernet without changing stream settings, then repeat the test. If drops improve, that points toward the wireless link or its local conditions; it does not prove the external JioFiber route is fault-free. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable.
- Run MyJio diagnostics. In the MyJio app, open Home and JioCare, then select Run Diagnostics. Follow the account-specific guidance for any connection, router, device, or Wi-Fi findings. Jio’s suggested actions can include restarting the router, checking cables or settings, and improving Wi-Fi coverage. If the problem remains, raise a service request.
- Compare another destination. Repeat a comparable test to a different streaming service. OBS recommends this as a way to investigate whether a problem may be service-specific. If another destination works, that is a clue to investigate the YouTube path or ingest further—not proof of a route fault or a fix for the original stream.
- Isolate local software and settings. OBS identifies VPNs, security software, network-priority utilities, and outdated network drivers as possible sources of interference. Test one change at a time; restore security protections afterward. Update drivers from the device or motherboard maker.
- Escalate with evidence. If drops persist on Ethernet at a conservative bitrate across repeated representative tests, keep the OBS log and timestamps and contact JioFiber support. Share the test settings, wired-versus-wireless results, and any MyJio findings. OBS advises contacting the ISP when its troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
- Temporarily test with VPN or network-priority software disabled, if applicable. Change one variable at a time and restore it after the test.
- Check whether security software is interfering with OBS’s connection. Avoid leaving protections disabled as a permanent workaround.
- On Windows, OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing as options some users report can help. These are troubleshooting options, not guaranteed fixes.
- Leave OBS’s Bind to IP setting at Default unless there is a specific network configuration reason to change it.
- OBS documents an IPv4-only test. If it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4/IPv6 configuration.
Consult the OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide for the applicable controls in your version. Avoid making several network changes at once: that makes it harder to learn which condition, if any, affected the drops.

How to interpret the test results
| Test result | What it suggests | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Lowering bitrate reduces drops | The original target may have exceeded dependable upload capacity, or the connection may have fluctuated around it. | Use the lower stable setting; reduce resolution or frame rate if needed. |
| Ethernet performs better than Wi-Fi | The local wireless link or its conditions may be contributing. | Use wired Ethernet where practical and check Wi-Fi placement, strength, and interference. |
| Another destination works while YouTube drops | The issue may be specific to the YouTube path or ingest, but this comparison does not prove a route fault. | Retain timestamps and OBS logs and investigate further with the service or ISP. |
| Wired tests still drop at a conservative bitrate | A Wi-Fi-only explanation is less likely; the remaining cause is not identified by the counter alone. | Run MyJio diagnostics and contact JioFiber support with the results. |
