If the YouTube stream-key field in OBS is blank after you reconnect your account, first check whether OBS is using its account-linked YouTube integration. That workflow and manual stream-key entry are separate setup options, so an empty key box can be expected rather than evidence that your key was erased. Choose the workflow you want, check the active OBS profile, and retrieve or reset the key in YouTube Studio only if you’re using manual entry.
Why the stream-key field may be blank
OBS supports linking a Google account for YouTube in Settings → Stream. In that account-linked workflow, OBS uses its YouTube integration; you may not need to paste a stream key into the view you’re checking. Manual key entry is a different route. The blank field alone does not confirm that reconnecting erased the key.

The available guidance does not establish a current OBS defect specifically triggered by reconnecting a YouTube account. The YouTube integration guide describes account linking, but its integration section is marked work in progress and refers to OBS Studio 27.1 and newer; its screenshots and exact labels may not match your version.

Fix it by choosing the OBS connection method
1. Check the service and account in OBS
- Open OBS → Settings → Stream.
- Confirm that the selected service is YouTube RTMPS.
- Check whether YouTube is connected as an account. If it is, the account-linked workflow may not show or require a manual key field. Follow OBS’s YouTube integration and broadcast controls if that is the route you want.
2. Decide whether to use account linking or a manual key
- Account-linked integration: Keep the Google account connected and use OBS’s YouTube integration.
- Manual key entry: Use the YouTube RTMPS/manual stream-key route, then copy the key from YouTube Studio into OBS.
An OBS forum user reported in 2023 that disconnecting the connected account made the key box appear. Treat that only as a possible workaround: it is an anecdotal report, not a guaranteed fix for current OBS versions. If you try it, first make sure you can access the YouTube account and broadcast controls you need.

3. Verify the active OBS profile
OBS profiles save Stream settings, including the connected account. Check that the active profile is the one you expect; a different profile may have different connection settings. OBS supports exporting and importing profiles for backup or use in another installation.
Find or reset a key for manual entry
Copy the key from YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Open the Stream tab and copy the value under Stream key.
- Paste that key into OBS’s manual stream-key field.
A stream key is the credential and destination information that lets YouTube accept an encoder’s feed. Do not paste the YouTube stream URL into the key field: the ingest URL and stream key are different values.

Reset only when necessary
If you need a new key, use Reset beside the hidden stream key in YouTube Live Control Room, then replace the old value in OBS with the newly generated key. YouTube says only a channel owner or manager can reset a stream key; editors and viewers cannot. Resetting means the encoder must be updated with the new key.

If the field is still missing or the stream fails
- You intended to use account linking: A manual key box may not be needed in that workflow. Check the connected account and OBS’s YouTube broadcast controls.
- You intended to enter a key manually: Verify that you selected the manual YouTube RTMPS route, then copy the key from the Stream tab in YouTube Studio.
- The settings appear different from expected: Confirm the active OBS profile. If the interface still does not match, note your OBS version and contact OBS support rather than assuming a specific reconnect bug.
- You cannot access or reset the key: Check whether you have channel-owner or manager permissions. YouTube advises contacting the streaming software’s support when you log in through third-party software without using a stream key.
- The stream starts but reports errors: Update the encoder and check its error messages and outbound connection, as YouTube recommends.
