What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Short answer: OBS can run a 24/7 YouTube stream from an Indian home connection if the computer stays on, the upload link sustains the chosen bitrate, and you monitor the broadcast. A cloud service removes your PC and home upload connection from the stream’s continuous outbound path, making it a better fit when you want a prerecorded video or playlist to keep running without local hardware. Neither option bypasses YouTube’s live-streaming requirements or its archive limits.
OBS vs. cloud hosting: what changes?
OBS is encoder software running on your computer. It sends the stream directly to YouTube, so both the computer and its internet connection must remain available. A cloud service sends the stream from provider-hosted systems instead; you upload media and configure the service, and your home connection is no longer responsible for the ongoing broadcast. This comparison is most relevant to prerecorded videos and playlists, not a live camera production.

| Decision | OBS on your computer | Cloud service |
|---|---|---|
| What sends the stream | Your computer encodes and uploads to YouTube. | The provider’s system sends the stream after you upload or configure the media. |
| Home broadband dependency | Continuous, stable upload is required at the selected bitrate. | Your home upload is needed for setup and media upload, not the ongoing outbound stream. |
| What must stay powered | The computer and network equipment. | Your local computer can be off after setup, subject to the service’s workflow. |
| Best fit | A creator with an always-on computer, tested upload capacity, and a need for direct production control. | A creator looping prerecorded content who does not want the broadcast to depend on a home PC and uplink. |
Cloud hosting changes where the stream is sent from; it does not change YouTube’s content rules, live eligibility, or archive behavior. Evaluate a service’s supported media, playlist and loop controls, recovery behavior, monitoring, limits, pricing, and cancellation terms before relying on it.
Will Indian broadband support an OBS stream 24/7?
It depends on the sustained upload capacity and stability at the actual streaming location, not the country-wide label or the download speed shown by a speed test. YouTube advises leaving 20% of available upload bandwidth unused and notes that other activity on a shared connection can reduce capacity. Its bitrate guidance is based on codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than geography. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees that a particular ISP connection will hold steady overnight.

For H.264, YouTube’s recommended ingestion bitrates include:
| Resolution and frame rate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube Help recommendations, accessed in 2026, for H.264 ingestion. They do not mean an Indian connection advertised at the same upload speed is sufficient: the connection needs headroom for network variation and other users. OBS suggests using about 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when diagnosing dropped frames; treat that as troubleshooting guidance, not a reliability guarantee.

- 【Package Content & Note】 1x HD Audio Capture Card , 1x USB 3.0 to USB C Adapter (A-side 3.0, B-side 2.0), 1x user manual. Please note that you need to restart the OBS Studio software after the audio setup is complete, otherwise it will result in no sound output. When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
Run sustained upload tests from the place and at the time the stream will operate, ideally with the household’s normal devices active. A single brief speed test cannot establish overnight stability. If the planned bitrate leaves little margin, reduce resolution or frame rate, choose a lower supported bitrate, or use cloud hosting to avoid relying on the home uplink for the broadcast.

Set up a 24/7 prerecorded stream in OBS
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. Verify the channel’s live-streaming eligibility and activate it before the intended start. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
- Configure OBS for YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key (or connect the account if that option is available). Under Settings → Output, choose an H.264 encoder and set a bitrate appropriate to the resolution and frame rate, using YouTube’s recommendations as the starting point. Under Settings → Video, set the output resolution and frame rate you intend to deliver.
- Use YouTube’s recommended transmission settings. Configure RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Match the bitrate to the output resolution and frame rate rather than choosing the highest value the PC can encode.
- Prepare the loop. Add the prerecorded video or playlist as a media source in the scene and configure looping where needed. Check that the source plays through, audio is present, and transitions behave as intended. OBS scene and source options can vary by version and media workflow.
- Test the real setup before relying on it. Preview the broadcast, then run a private or unlisted test if appropriate. Use realistic motion and audio, leave it running long enough to expose network or computer problems, and check YouTube’s stream-health indicators.
- Keep the system running. Disable sleep or automatic shutdown for the streaming computer, keep OBS open, and use a wired Ethernet connection where practical. Monitor the stream and the computer rather than assuming that a successful launch guarantees an uninterrupted day-long broadcast.
Why an OBS stream drops frames—and what to try
OBS defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. The cause may be local Wi-Fi, network equipment, the route to YouTube, VPN or security software, or an ISP-side issue—not necessarily the computer’s encoding performance.

- Dropped frames or unstable stream health: Lower the bitrate and test again. Use Ethernet if possible, pause other uploads, and check the router, modem, cable, network drivers, VPN, firewall or security software, and ISP connection.
- Stream will not start: Confirm that live streaming is enabled, the activation period has passed if this is a first stream, and the stream key and URL match the current Live Control Room event. Reset a key that may have been exposed.
- Video stutters despite a good speed test: A short speed test does not show sustained performance. Retest under realistic household network use, reduce the bitrate to restore headroom, and check YouTube’s stream health while OBS is sending.
- Computer struggles while streaming: OBS’s CPU needs vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Reduce output demands or simplify the scene, then test again; a computer that can open OBS is not necessarily able to encode continuously at the selected settings.
- Broadcast stops when nobody is watching the PC: Check for sleep, shutdown, power, application, or network interruptions. OBS on a local computer depends on that system and connection remaining available.
Will YouTube save a 24/7 stream?
Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a single uninterrupted archive of a very long broadcast. YouTube Help says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, and recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. If a complete archive matters, plan a separate recording or divide the programming into shorter broadcasts and verify the resulting recordings.
A cloud stream does not remove this YouTube limitation or automatically mean that a complete YouTube archive exists. Confirm separately whether your chosen workflow records a backup and how you can retrieve it.
