Yes—OBS Studio 30.2.2 is a genuine official release. It is a maintenance hotfix in the 30.2 series, with one uniquely important change: it corrected the Windows updater repeatedly reporting an available update after users had installed 30.2.1. The larger feature list often attributed to “30.2.2” came from OBS 30.2. As of August 18, 2026, OBS 32.2.2 is the current download, so 30.2.2 is mainly useful for compatibility, testing, or archival work.
Is OBS Studio 30.2.2 legitimate?
It is an official OBS Project release hosted in the obsproject/obs-studio GitHub repository. “OBS Studio” is the application name; “30.2.2” is its version number. It is not a plugin, browser-only edition, or separate product.

What did version 30.2.2 actually fix?
The dedicated 30.2.2 change fixed a Windows updater defect. After updating to 30.2.1, some installations continued to say that an update was available. The patch corrected that repeated notification. It was a hotfix, not a new major feature release.

The 30.2 branch continued with OBS 30.2.3, so 30.2.2 is not even the newest maintenance build in that branch.
Features introduced by the wider OBS 30.2 series
Multitrack Video (Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting)
OBS 30.2 added Multitrack Video support, known on Twitch as Enhanced Broadcasting. The release notes described support as Windows-only at that time, with NVIDIA GTX 900/10-series, RTX 20-series or newer, and AMD RX 6000-series or newer listed among supported GPUs. Mono or stereo audio configurations were listed.
When enabled, OBS sends technical stream and system information to the streaming service when a stream starts. The release notes include OBS version, resolution, frame rate, audio settings, CPU, GPU, memory, operating-system, and Multitrack Video settings. Actual availability also depends on the service, driver, GPU, and platform.
Enhanced RTMP/FLV
The release added multi-track audio and video support for Enhanced RTMP/FLV and replaced the older metadata-based VOD Track mechanism.

Hybrid MP4
Hybrid MP4 was introduced as a beta output format. Its design aims to combine more fault tolerance than conventional MP4 with more compatibility and quicker access than fragmented MP4. Chapter markers can be inserted through a hotkey or API. See the official Hybrid MP4 documentation; it is not a universal replacement for MKV or other formats.
Linux encoder improvements
OBS 30.2 added native NVENC support on Linux, NVENC AV1, and shared-texture support for NVENC, QuickSync, and VA-API. These options still require compatible hardware, drivers, an appropriate operating-system configuration, and an encoder exposed by that installation.
HEVC WebRTC output
HEVC became available for WebRTC output. An OBS encoder option does not guarantee that every browser, WebRTC endpoint, streaming service, or receiving device accepts or decodes HEVC.

The new theme system uses a base theme and variants that can be switched in Appearance settings. Older custom themes may need updates, and the legacy System theme was removed. Users relying on operating-system high-contrast settings were directed to enable high contrast in the operating system. Test custom themes before a production upgrade.

30.2.1 corrections
- Reduced possible crashes while loading scene data.
- Fixed CoreAudio AAC timestamp problems that could stop a stream.
- Corrected
obs-websocketVirtual Camera detection and settings-saving issues. - Restored legacy AMF encoder availability in affected upgrades.
- Fixed failure when launching Windows OBS with OpenGL.
- Resolved several interface sizing and appearance problems.
OpenGL is unsupported on Windows; the release notes recommend Direct3D 11. Change the renderer at Settings → Advanced → Video.
30.2 corrections
- Improved AV1 packet priority so dropped frames could recover correctly.
- Fixed channel-layout problems in recordings and remuxed recordings.
- Corrected low-resolution settings-window clipping and paused-indicator stacking.
- Removed disabled sources from Advanced Audio Properties.
- Fixed Grid Mode settings not persisting when enabled from View.
- Addressed CoreAudio encoder delay of roughly 44–48 milliseconds and negative startup timestamps affecting Opus and CoreAudio AAC.
- Fixed some VA-API AV1 availability, WebRTC high-bitrate recovery, and multi-scene Tab-key renaming problems.
These are targeted fixes, not a promise that every workflow will perform faster or more reliably.
Compatibility and prerequisites
Operating systems
Current OBS requirements have changed since the 30.2.x era. The current download page lists Windows 10/11 and macOS 13.0 or newer for the current release, but those requirements should not be assumed to describe 30.2.2. If an older system requires this build, verify the specific installer or archived documentation. Current platform information is at obsproject.com/download.

The 30.2.2 release notes give guidance of NVIDIA driver 531.61 or newer on Windows and 530.41.03 or newer on Linux. These are guidance values, not guarantees: GPU generation, operating system, encoder support, and service implementation still matter.

Kepler NVENC
An OBS Project discussion identifies 30.2 as the last release supporting NVENC on NVIDIA Kepler-based GPUs, including many GTX 600/700, some GTX 800, and Quadro K cards. This is an NVENC support boundary, not proof that OBS cannot run at all on every Kepler system.
Plugins, profiles, and themes
OBS is GPL-2.0-or-later open-source software, while plugins are maintained separately (project repository). Plugin builds can be version-sensitive. A downgrade from a newer OBS may require older plugin versions, and scene collections, profiles, scripts, custom themes, or obs-websocket integrations may not behave identically across versions. Test the exact combination you use.
Code signing and anti-cheat
The historical release notes warned that an OBS code-signing certificate update could affect compatibility with some anti-cheat solutions starting with a later major release. That warning should not be rewritten as a claim that 30.2.2 universally breaks anti-cheat-protected games.

- Open the canonical 30.2.2 release page.
- Expand Assets and select the installer for your platform. Do not use an unrelated repack.
- Back up profiles, scene collections, themes, scripts, and plugins if preserving an existing setup matters.
- Run the installer and launch OBS.
- Confirm the installed version in the Help/About area.
- Make a short recording, then separately test a short stream, before an important broadcast.
The current OBS download page links to previous releases, but it does not establish that it directly serves 30.2.2. For Linux, distinguish distribution packages, Flatpak, Ubuntu’s PPA, archived binaries, and unofficial packages; the correct method depends on the distribution and whether a historical version is required.

Should you install OBS 30.2.2 today?

As of August 18, 2026, the official download page lists OBS Studio 32.2.2, released August 14. Therefore, 30.2.2 is generally a compatibility or archival choice rather than the default recommendation.
Rollback checklist
- Exit OBS completely.
- Disable or remove plugins added for the newer version.
- Install the required older build from the official release archive.
- Restore backed-up profiles and scene collections if needed.
- Re-test capture sources, audio routing, encoders, recordings, streams, and virtual camera output.
- If problems continue, inspect the OBS log and avoid opening and resaving important scene collections in a newer version until your rollback plan is confirmed.
Downgrading can change how plugins, themes, profiles, and scene collections behave; backups are the safeguard.
Verdict
OBS Studio 30.2.2 is authentic, but its unique purpose is narrow: it fixes the Windows updater notification problem in 30.2.1. Multitrack Video, Enhanced RTMP/FLV, Hybrid MP4, Linux encoder changes, HEVC WebRTC, composable themes, and most listed bug fixes belong to the broader 30.2 release line. Install 30.2.2 when a tested legacy workflow requires it; otherwise choose the current official OBS release.
