OBS Settings for a Malayalam Devotional Video Loop on YouTube Live

Learn how to loop a Malayalam devotional recording in OBS and match YouTube Live encoder settings, with practical testing and troubleshooting steps.

To loop a Malayalam devotional video on YouTube Live with OBS Studio, add the recording as a Media Source, enable Loop, connect OBS to the stream key for your YouTube broadcast, and choose encoder settings that match your resolution, frame rate, codec, and reliable upload capacity. Test the full picture and sound in YouTube’s Live Control Room before you broadcast.

Set up the loop in OBS

  1. Create a scene: In the Scenes panel, add a scene for the devotional stream.
  2. Add the video: In Sources, choose + → Media Source, give it a name, and select the recording file. OBS supports common formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. In the source properties, enable Loop. OBS restarts the file after playback finishes. OBS Media Sources documentation.
  3. Fit the composition: Set the base canvas and output (scaled) resolution in Settings → Video. Position and resize the source in the preview. You can use a video-only layout; artwork or text are optional. OBS Sources guide.

Looping is controlled by the OBS Media Source, not by a YouTube setting. If you need several recordings to play as a playlist, OBS’s VLC Video source supports Loop Playlist and requires VLC to be installed. A single-file loop does not require VLC. OBS Media Sources documentation.

Choose resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings

There is no single correct bitrate for every Malayalam devotional stream. First decide the output resolution and frame rate your computer can encode reliably; then use YouTube’s recommendation for that resolution, frame rate, and codec. Your upload connection must sustain the chosen bitrate with headroom for normal variation.

Setting YouTube recommendation
Rate control CBR
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds
Frame rate Up to 60 fps
Connection RTMPS recommended for an encrypted connection
Audio 128 Kbps stereo; 44.1 kHz for stereo audio

YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion. Its H.264 examples include the following recommended video bitrates; use the full YouTube table to match your actual codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than treating these examples as universal values. These are YouTube-published recommendations, not locally measured results. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions (accessed October 2026).

720p at 30 fps 5 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

In OBS, configure the matching output resolution and frame rate in Settings → Video, and configure the encoder and bitrate under Settings → Output (use Advanced output mode if needed to expose encoder controls). Available codec and encoder choices depend on the computer and its hardware/software encoders. YouTube’s guidance is: “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” YouTube encoder guidance.

Connect OBS to the correct YouTube broadcast

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room for the intended broadcast and obtain its server and stream key.
  2. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service (or choose a custom server), and enter the server and stream key shown for that broadcast.
  3. Keep the stream key private: it is a credential that allows software to send video to your channel. Do not paste it into public chats, screenshots, or documents.
  4. Apply the settings and start a test stream from OBS. Confirm the correct broadcast appears in YouTube’s preview before going live to viewers.

OBS documents the service/server and stream-key fields in its streaming overview. YouTube recommends RTMPS. OBS streaming overview; YouTube encoder guidance.

Check audio and test the complete stream

A visible looping image does not prove that its audio is being sent. In OBS, check Settings → Audio for the selected sources or devices, then watch the Audio Mixer meters while the media plays. Listen to the YouTube preview as well as checking that the meters move; make sure the devotional track is audible and not clipping or unexpectedly silent. OBS Quick Start guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Run a short end-to-end test using the same video, audio, resolution, and encoder settings planned for the broadcast.
  • Check that playback restarts cleanly at the end of the file.
  • Check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health feedback for warnings or interruptions.
  • Test before the first broadcast and monitor stream health while live, as YouTube and OBS recommend. YouTube encoder guidance; OBS Quick Start guide.

Copyright and YouTube eligibility

OBS’s technical ability to loop a recording does not grant permission to stream it. Before broadcasting, establish that you have the necessary rights for the particular devotional music, recording, lyrics, artwork, and video in your file. A devotional or religious subject does not by itself establish that a recording is free to use. YouTube’s encoder and OBS setup guidance cannot confirm the rights status of your asset.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom What to check
The file stops instead of restarting Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a multi-file playlist, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist.
YouTube receives no picture Check that the intended scene is active, the media file is selected and playing, and OBS is connected with the server and stream key for the intended broadcast. Confirm the preview in Live Control Room.
Picture is present but audio is missing Check source/device selection in Settings → Audio, observe the Audio Mixer meters during playback, and listen to the YouTube preview.
YouTube reports stream-health warnings Compare the configured codec, bitrate, output resolution, frame rate, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s recommendations for that exact combination. Check that the upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate; lower resolution or frame rate if necessary, then test again.
The stream appears under the wrong broadcast or will not connect Recheck the broadcast’s server and stream key in YouTube Studio and the service/server fields in OBS. Treat the key as a credential and avoid reusing a key copied from another broadcast without verifying it.
