For a 720p, 30 fps YouTube Live stream, set OBS to 1280×720 at 30 fps, use H.264 with CBR, start at 8,000 kbps if your tested upload can sustain it, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube’s current guidance lists 8 Mbps as the recommended H.264 video bitrate for 720p30 and 3 Mbps as the minimum. A JioFiber plan’s advertised upload speed alone cannot confirm that your connection will hold a live stream steady: test your actual upload and run a preflight before going live.
Recommended OBS settings for 720p30 YouTube Live
Use these as a starting configuration for an SDR stream. YouTube’s current encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, recommends the listed video bitrate and keyframe interval; the JioFiber speed examples below are plan descriptions, not measurements of an individual connection.

| OBS setting | Starting value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1280×720 | Set the stream output to 720p. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Use 30 frames per second for this target. |
| Encoder format | H.264 | YouTube’s guidance also lists H.265 and AV1, but H.264 is the conservative cross-device choice reflected in its table. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate is the recommended mode for this setup. |
| Video bitrate | 8,000 kbps to start; test down to 3,000 kbps if needed | YouTube lists 8 Mbps recommended and 3 Mbps minimum for H.264 at 720p30. These are platform guidelines, not a guarantee of image quality or connection stability. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Streaming protocol | RTMPS where available | YouTube describes RTMPS as the secure, encrypted extension of RTMP. |
| Audio encoder | AAC | Suitable for a straightforward stereo setup. |
| Stereo audio bitrate | 128 kbps | YouTube lists this as its stereo recommendation. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit | Use these values for SDR according to YouTube’s advanced settings guidance. |

OBS’s knowledge base explains that transcoding converts a source feed into multiple output feeds and advises staying within the platform’s recommended keyframe interval: OBS knowledge base.

Set up the stream in OBS
- Set the video size and frame rate. In OBS, open Settings > Video. Set the output (scaled) resolution to 1280×720 and the common FPS value to 30. If you are producing at a different canvas size, make sure the output resolution is still 1280×720 for this stream.
- Configure output encoding. Open Settings > Output and select the streaming output options. Choose an H.264 encoder available on your computer, set rate control to CBR, bitrate to 8000 Kbps as the initial target, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. OBS labels can differ by version and selected encoder; use the equivalent controls rather than assuming a particular hardware encoder is best for every PC.
- Set audio. In the streaming audio settings, choose AAC if available and set stereo audio bitrate to 128 Kbps. Check that the intended microphone, desktop audio, or other source is actually routed to the stream.
- Connect YouTube. In YouTube Studio, open the live control room for the broadcast and use its stream setup details. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube or the corresponding RTMPS service option, then connect the account or enter the stream key supplied by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or expose it on screen.
- Run a preflight. Start a private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel, include representative motion and audio, and inspect both OBS and YouTube’s stream-health indicators before the public event. A static screen test alone may not reveal the behavior of a broadcast with movement or sound.
Will JioFiber upload speed be enough?
It depends on the sustained upload available to your home at broadcast time, not just the number on the plan. Jio’s plan comparison describes symmetric upload and download speeds, with examples of 30 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 150 Mbps. Those are advertised plan figures, not a measurement of a subscriber’s actual sustained upload during a stream. See JioFiber plan comparison.

Run an upload speed test under conditions close to the planned broadcast. If other people or devices share the connection, test while that traffic is present. The stream also needs room for audio, protocol overhead, and normal variation; no universal buffer percentage is established for every JioFiber connection. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate and the stream before going live.
- If your connection has adequate headroom and the test remains stable, try 8,000 kbps.
- If the upload fluctuates or OBS or YouTube reports instability, lower the bitrate and test again, staying within YouTube’s listed H.264 range down to 3,000 kbps where possible.
- Compare the sustained connection, OBS rendering or encoding performance, YouTube stream health, and the picture in a test broadcast. A higher bitrate can preserve more detail, particularly with motion, but requires more sustained upload capacity; a lower bitrate reduces network demand and may reduce detail.
What viewers receive after you send the stream
OBS sends one configured ingest stream to YouTube. YouTube then transcodes live input into multiple viewer formats, so viewers may receive a different rendition depending on YouTube’s processing and their device or network. Your OBS resolution and bitrate describe the feed you send; they do not force every viewer to receive that exact rendition.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube reports a weak or unstable connection: Test the upload again during conditions similar to the broadcast, reduce the video bitrate from 8,000 kbps, and repeat the preflight. Check whether household traffic is competing for upload capacity.
- The picture stutters or OBS shows rendering or encoding strain: Check OBS performance and system load during the test. The available evidence does not identify one encoder or preset as best for every computer, so compare the encoders available on your system rather than assuming a universal choice.
- The stream looks softer after lowering bitrate: That is a trade-off: a lower bitrate uses less network capacity but can reduce detail. Confirm the actual viewer rendition after YouTube processes the stream, not only the OBS preview.
- The stream key does not connect: Confirm OBS is using the current key for the correct YouTube broadcast, and replace it in OBS if you have regenerated it in YouTube Studio. Keep the key private.
- Audio is missing or too quiet: Check the selected audio source and OBS mixer meters, then verify AAC stereo output and the 128 kbps target. Include audio in the test broadcast.
Copyright and YouTube channel rules still apply
Correct encoder settings do not grant rights to the video, music, or other material in a broadcast. Use content you own or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream policies before scheduling a broadcast. A technically healthy stream can still be restricted or removed for policy or rights reasons.
