Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor one repeating shloka recording, add it to OBS as a Media Source and turn on Loop. For a playlist of multiple files, use OBS’s VLC Video source, install VLC in the same 64-bit or 32-bit architecture as OBS, and leave Loop Playlist enabled. Set the encoder to a YouTube-supported configuration suited to your material and sustained upload speed, then test it in YouTube Live Control Room. Looping repeats the media; it does not keep OBS, your computer, power, or internet connection running continuously.
Choose the right OBS source for your shloka
Use OBS’s built-in Media Source for a single file that should repeat. Use VLC Video when the stream needs to move through several files in a defined order. These instructions assume the recordings are already on the computer running OBS.

One repeating recording: Media Source
- In OBS, select or create the scene for the stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, name it, and select OK.
- Choose Browse beside the local file field and select the shloka recording.
- Enable Loop. The Media Source guide lists Loop as off by default. Restart playback when source becomes active is on by default; leave it on if you want playback to begin again when the source becomes active.
- Select OK, then preview the scene. Confirm the video or still visual appears and the audio meter moves while the recording plays.
Multiple files: VLC Video
- Install VLC before setting up the source. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; the OBS guide specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- In OBS, select or create the intended scene. In Sources, select + and choose VLC Video.
- Create the source, then add the recordings to its playlist in the order you want them played. Check that each file appears in the list and plays locally.
- Keep Loop Playlist enabled to repeat the list. The OBS guide says it is on by default. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the shlokas should remain in a deliberate sequence; it is off by default.
- Preview the scene from beginning to end of at least one file transition. Check for missing files, unwanted gaps, unexpected ordering, and consistent audio.
See OBS’s Media Sources guide for the source controls and supported media details.
Set output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate for the actual connection
There is no single bitrate that guarantees a stable 24/7 stream. Choose the resolution and frame rate that suit the recordings and the computer, then use YouTube’s current encoder table for the selected codec and test sustained upload capacity. A static devotional playlist generally does not benefit from 60 fps just because the platform accepts it.

YouTube’s H.264 reference figures
| Output example | YouTube H.264 table | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | Figures listed by YouTube for H.264 at 720p30; neither figure guarantees stability on a particular connection. |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended | Figures listed by YouTube for H.264 at 1080p30; use them as encoder guidance, not a promise of uninterrupted delivery. |
The figures are from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance; the surfaced table does not state a publication year. It is codec-specific: do not apply its H.264 values to another codec as though they were interchangeable.
Encoder settings to check
- Protocol: YouTube’s guidance includes RTMP/RTMPS. Prefer RTMPS where available for encryption in transit to Google’s servers.
- Codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 among encoder options. Select a codec supported by both your OBS setup and YouTube’s current guidance, and consult the matching bitrate table rather than assuming H.264 figures apply.
- Rate control: Use CBR, which YouTube recommends for the listed encoder guidance.
- Keyframe interval: Set 2 seconds; YouTube recommends this and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Resolution and frame rate: Match the output to the visual detail and motion in the source. For a mostly static image and recitation, avoid selecting a heavier output without a reason and a successful test.
- Upload capacity: Test sustained upload under conditions resembling the planned broadcast. A speed-test result is not proof that the connection can sustain the chosen bitrate all day, particularly when other devices share it.
Connect OBS to the YouTube live stream securely
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Review the stream’s settings there before going live.
- In OBS, configure the YouTube service or server using the stream URL and key provided in Live Control Room. Use the current YouTube and OBS labels, which can vary with configuration.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not put the key in screenshots, logs, public instructions, or shared documents. If it is exposed, reset it in the live stream settings and update OBS with the replacement. See Manage live stream settings.
- Check whether Auto-start and Auto-stop are enabled for this particular stream. Their behavior affects whether starting or stopping the encoder also starts or ends the broadcast.
Test the playlist before leaving it live
- Play the actual playlist locally. Verify file order, loop behavior, audio levels, and any transitions that might interrupt recitation.
- In OBS, preview the complete scene. Confirm the intended visual is present and that sound reaches the stream’s audio mix.
- Start a private or unlisted test when appropriate for the channel. Inspect the Live Control Room preview and audio, then review stream health before relying on the setup.
- Run the test long enough to expose problems that appear after the initial connection, including playback transitions and network instability.
- Plan how you will notice and respond to an OBS crash, computer restart, power failure, or lost connection. Media looping alone does not restart an encoder or repair a network connection.
- Monitor the broadcast periodically. YouTube’s operational guidance recommends setting up ahead of time, previewing, and checking audio and video; those checks help catch faults but do not guarantee continuous operation.
Plan for the limits of a local 24/7 setup
Computer, power, and network
OBS runs on the local computer, so it must remain powered and connected with enough resources to play and encode the stream. A wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to connect a computer to the network, not a requirement and not a guarantee of reliability. Consider power and internet outages, automatic system updates or sleep settings, and how you will restart the stream after a failure.

Archive and local recording
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A planned 24/7 broadcast exceeds that stated threshold, so do not assume YouTube will provide a complete automatic archive of the whole broadcast. If a durable copy matters, arrange local recording or another archiving method, and check available storage: a continuous local recording can grow substantially over time.

Troubleshoot common OBS playlist-stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The file plays once and stops | Media Source Loop is off, or the source is configured as a single-play item. | Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a multi-file list, use VLC Video and check Loop Playlist. |
| VLC Video is unavailable or does not play the playlist | VLC is missing, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC and match the OBS build; the OBS guide specifies 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. Reopen OBS and test the files locally. |
| There is no sound in the broadcast | The source may not be playing, may be muted, or may not be reaching the stream mix. | Play the source in OBS, inspect its audio meter and mute state, and verify the audio in YouTube’s preview during a test. |
| YouTube reports poor stream health or the feed disconnects | The chosen bitrate may exceed sustainable upload, or the connection may be unstable. | Review Live Control Room stream health, test the connection over a sustained period, and reduce output demands using YouTube’s codec-specific table if needed. Check competing network use as well. |
| OBS is connected but the YouTube broadcast does not start or stop as expected | Auto-start or Auto-stop settings for the selected stream may not match the expected behavior. | Review those controls in Live Control Room and test the encoder-to-broadcast sequence before scheduling unattended operation. |
| The key no longer works or may have been exposed | The key was changed, copied incorrectly, or disclosed. | Confirm the current key in YouTube live stream settings, reset it if exposed, and replace the value in OBS. Do not share the replacement. |
| A long broadcast is missing from the archive | The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive threshold. | For future streams, record locally or arrange separate archiving if retaining the full program is important. |
