For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as recommended; at 720p30, it lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. Choose the resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably, then test the complete setup before scheduling a long broadcast.
Recommended OBS settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance gives general platform ranges, not a meditation-specific preset. A static image or gently moving scene may need less visual detail than fast action, but the stream still has to encode cleanly and reach YouTube consistently. Use the values below as starting targets and monitor YouTube’s stream-health feedback during a test.

| Setting | Starting value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Video encoder | H.264 | YouTube also supports H.265 and AV1 ingest; use a codec compatible with your OBS output and YouTube workflow. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate is YouTube’s recommendation for live encoding. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Streaming protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts stream data in transit to Google’s servers. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube’s general advanced guidance lists 128 kbps stereo and 44.1 kHz stereo sampling. |
For H.264 video, YouTube lists the following bitrate ranges:

| Output | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | A practical starting point when upload capacity is limited or the visual is largely static. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | Use when the extra visual detail is useful and the connection has sufficient stable upload headroom. |
These are YouTube Help’s H.264 platform figures, verified in 2026; they are not a guarantee that a particular home connection can sustain a 24/7 stream. If upload speed fluctuates or YouTube reports poor stream health, lower the video bitrate or output resolution and test again. Leave meaningful headroom rather than planning around a speed-test peak.

Set up OBS and YouTube Studio
You can connect OBS using its YouTube integration or configure the service and stream details through YouTube Studio. The exact interface changes over time; YouTube’s available OBS Project walkthrough dates to 2015, so treat its screen-by-screen details as potentially outdated. The durable workflow is to create or select a YouTube live event, connect OBS with the event’s stream key, test privately or in another controlled setting, and verify both picture and sound before going public.
- Prepare the scene in OBS. Add the meditation visual and the audio source for the track or playlist you have permission to use. Check that the visual is framed correctly and that the audio meter moves without clipping.
- Choose the output profile. In OBS, open Settings and configure the stream encoder for H.264, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. Select 720p30 or 1080p30 and set a bitrate appropriate to YouTube’s ranges and your stable upload capacity. Set audio to AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz.
- Connect the YouTube event. Use OBS’s YouTube connection option or enter the event’s server and stream-key details as directed in YouTube Studio. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it publicly.
- Run a controlled test. Start the stream privately or use another controlled visibility option available for your event. Check the YouTube preview, stream-health messages, image quality, audio level, and lip-sync or timing if the visual includes motion.
- Start the intended broadcast. Once the test is clean, use the current YouTube Studio event controls to go live. Keep an eye on stream health; a successful initial connection does not establish that a long session will remain uninterrupted.
Choose 720p30 or 1080p30 based on reliable capacity
For a still image, slow animation, or a mostly static shrine or nature scene, 720p30 may be sufficient and leaves more room for connection fluctuations. Choose 1080p30 when the visual genuinely benefits from the added detail and your upload can sustain the higher target. In either case, the recommended bitrate is not a command to use it regardless of network conditions: a stable stream at a lower supported setting is more useful than repeated buffering at a higher one.
Rank #2
- Use 720p30 as a starting choice if the scene is simple or upload bandwidth is constrained; YouTube’s H.264 guidance lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended.
- Use 1080p30 if detail matters and there is reliable upload headroom; the corresponding figures are 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended.
- Test with the actual music and visual, because audio continuity and the behavior of your particular connection matter over a long session.
Clear rights for the recording and the composition
OBS settings cannot make a track lawful to broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms require the broadcaster to have the rights needed for the live content and its archive, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other participants. A particular recording and the underlying composition can have distinct rights, so check both for every track.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If protected material continues, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent interruption: YouTube says a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived livestreams can also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast.
Rank #3
- Confirm that permission covers continuous livestreaming, the relevant territories, archived playback, and monetization if you plan to monetize.
- Ask the rights holder whether the channel must be allowlisted in Content ID and complete that process before going live.
- Do not treat attribution, a “free” label, or the age of a composition as proof that a specific recording is cleared for this use.
- YouTube points creators to its Audio Library and, in certain regions, Creator Music. Check the terms of any track or external license for your exact use.
No particular Indian classical music catalog is established here as cleared for worldwide continuous livestreaming and archives. Verify the rights for the actual performance and recording rather than assuming that a genre, source, or license label settles the question.

OBS encodes and sends the stream from the computer running it. Its codec, bitrate, and keyframe choices help the stream meet YouTube’s ingest guidance, but they do not ensure uninterrupted operation. A computer restart, power loss, internet outage, OBS failure, or YouTube disconnect can interrupt a long broadcast. YouTube’s encoding guidance does not establish a settings recipe that guarantees continuous uptime or automatic recovery for an OBS setup.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports poor stream health or the stream buffers | The connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate consistently. | Lower the bitrate; if necessary, switch from 1080p30 to 720p30, then run another controlled test. |
| The picture appears soft or blocky | The bitrate may be too low for the chosen resolution or visual motion, or the source itself may be low quality. | Check the source and preview first. Increase bitrate only if upload capacity can sustain it; otherwise choose a lower resolution. |
| YouTube rejects or flags the stream for third-party content | A recording or composition may match protected material, or the channel may not be allowlisted despite permission. | Stop and resolve the rights issue with the relevant rights holder, including any required Content ID allowlisting. Do not repeatedly restart with the same uncleared track. |
| The livestream runs, but the archive receives a claim | Content ID can claim archived streams after the live session ends. | Review the archive claim and the license scope; confirm that archived playback is permitted and contact the rights holder if allowlisting or release is appropriate. |
| The stream stops after the computer or connection fails | OBS is running locally and depends on the local computer, power, and network. | Restore the computer and connection, reconnect using the correct event and stream key, and verify YouTube’s preview and stream health before resuming. A longer-term cloud workflow avoids depending on a home computer staying on. |
