Recommended OBS settings for a continuous YouTube replay
These are starting points based on YouTube’s encoder guidance and OBS controls, not a tested preset for your hardware. Use the resolution and frame rate of the material you have, and prioritize a stable feed over a higher setting your system cannot maintain.

These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a particular computer or internet connection can sustain the feed. Select a bitrate with reliable upload capacity to spare, then test for dropped frames and stream-health warnings. For a replay dominated by a news ticker, studio shot, or other low-motion visuals, 30 fps may be sufficient and less demanding than 60 fps.

OBS separates Base (Canvas) Resolution from Output (Scaled) Resolution. Set output to the resolution you intend to send to YouTube. If your source is 1080p but your connection or computer is better suited to 720p, set the output to 720p rather than assuming the source resolution dictates the stream resolution.
Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream and copy its stream key and server details if OBS requests them. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s address and password for sending the feed. Keep it private; reset it if it is exposed.
- Set the service and key in OBS. Open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or select the stream key. If using a custom server, use the server address YouTube provides and choose RTMPS where available.
- Set the video output. In OBS, open Settings > Video. Choose the Base (Canvas) Resolution for your composition and Output (Scaled) Resolution for the stream. Set the frame rate to the level your source and system can handle, such as 30 fps for a less demanding replay.
- Set encoder controls. In Settings > Output, use the streaming encoder’s H.264 option, CBR rate control, a bitrate appropriate to your chosen resolution and frame rate, and a two-second keyframe interval. Menu names can vary with OBS version and selected encoder.
- Set and verify audio. Use AAC or MP3 encoding and check the selected audio device or source. Play representative footage and confirm that the stream includes the intended speech and audio without clipping or gaps.
- Test before making it continuous. Start a private or unlisted test, if appropriate for your channel, using footage with representative motion and audio. Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and OBS statistics; check for encoding overload, dropped frames, audio continuity and stable playback over an extended run.
YouTube’s current live controls also include auto-start and auto-stop options, which allow the encoder to start or stop a broadcast. A reusable custom stream key can route repeated encoder sessions to the service, but verify the selected event and key in YouTube Studio before going live.

Can YouTube archive a 24-hour livestream?
Do not count on YouTube keeping a complete replay of a single 24/7 event. YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream under 12 hours; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. If preserving the program matters, keep a local recording or plan separate, shorter broadcasts with their own archives. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams.
Rights and monetization risks for Malayalam news replays
Confirm rights to every part of the broadcast
Before streaming, confirm that your rights cover the footage, audio, graphics and music, as well as the territories and uses in your licence. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material, including another live broadcast. It may replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. A rights-holder licence may not be enough by itself: YouTube says the rights-holder may also need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Archived streams can receive Content ID claims after the live event ends. Details are in YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance.

Permission does not assure monetization
YouTube’s reused-content monetization policy is separate from copyright. It covers content taken from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value, and it is assessed across the channel. Permission alone does not settle whether a channel meets that policy. A stream that simply loops another outlet’s bulletins or news-feed readings therefore faces material monetization risk. Original reporting, meaningful commentary or substantial editorial transformation may matter, but no particular channel outcome is guaranteed. See YouTube channel monetization policies.
Test and troubleshoot before leaving the stream running
- YouTube reports an unstable stream or dropped frames: Check OBS statistics and upload stability. Lower output resolution, frame rate or bitrate to a level the connection can sustain, then test again.
- OBS reports encoding overload: Reduce output resolution or frame rate and review the selected encoder. A 60 fps output can be demanding; test a 30 fps version if the replay does not need the higher rate.
- The stream appears at the wrong resolution: Check Settings > Video and distinguish Base (Canvas) Resolution from Output (Scaled) Resolution. Confirm the output matches the intended stream.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm the selected YouTube service, server and stream key. A key is private; if it may have been exposed, reset it and update OBS.
- Speech or music is missing or discontinuous: Check OBS’s selected audio source and encoder audio settings, then test with the same kind of material used in the replay.
- The broadcast is interrupted after third-party footage appears: Check the relevant rights and YouTube notifications. A licence may require the rights-holder to allowlist the channel in Content ID.
- The full-day replay is unavailable afterward: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Preserve a separate recording or use shorter events if an archive is required.
