If OBS plays playlist videos in an unexpected sequence on YouTube Live, check the VLC Video source’s playlist entries and turn off Shuffle Playlist if you want the listed order. If “wrong order” means one graphic or video is covering another, adjust the scene’s source layering instead; that is a separate setting.
First identify what “wrong order” means
Check the OBS scene that feeds your live output and distinguish between two symptoms:

- Videos play in an unexpected sequence: check the playlist and shuffle setting in the VLC Video source.
- A graphic or video appears in front of another: check the order of sources in the scene’s Sources list.
Fix the sequence of playlist videos
- Select the VLC Video source in the OBS scene, then open its properties.
- Review the playlist entries. Confirm that the intended files are present and arranged in the desired order.
- Check Shuffle Playlist. Turn it off for sequential playback in the order shown in the list. OBS documents this control as determining whether playlist files are randomized or kept in list order; its documented default is Off.
- Apply the change and verify playback. Check the output from the scene you actually use for the YouTube Live stream.
Confirm you are using the playlist-capable source
OBS’s Media Source is for an individual media file; VLC Video supports multiple playlist items. If you need a playlist but do not see VLC Video among the available sources, install VLC. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.

When the problem is visual overlap rather than playback sequence, select the relevant OBS scene and inspect its Sources list. Sources higher in the list appear above sources lower in the list in the preview. Drag a source or use the up and down buttons to change its position. This changes visual layering; it does not reorder files in a VLC playlist. See the OBS Project’s Sources Guide.

If the playlist still behaves unexpectedly
After checking the source type, playlist entries, and shuffle setting, capture enough detail to reproduce the problem: your OBS version, operating system, playlist contents, scene changes, and the steps that lead to the unexpected sequence.
A report filed on October 11, 2020, describes shuffle behavior repeating across scene changes in OBS 26.0.2. That report is historical context, not evidence of a current bug or a diagnosis of a different setup. See OBS Studio issue #3597.
