Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Choose a cloud restreaming service when you want playback to run away from the classroom computer. Neither option removes the need to manage YouTube settings, recording permissions or interruptions. For a 24/7 channel, also plan how to handle replays: YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so its guidance does not support relying on one intact automatic archive of a continuous 24/7 broadcast.
How to decide: local control or off-site playback
The key difference is where the playback and stream depend on equipment. OBS plays files on the computer running OBS and sends the stream over that computer’s network connection. A cloud restreaming service moves playback and streaming to a provider’s system, but you must check what the provider actually offers and how its service fits your school’s requirements.

| Decision point | OBS on a local computer | Cloud restreaming service |
|---|---|---|
| What must stay available | The OBS computer, its media files and a working network connection. | The service must be configured with your videos and YouTube stream details. Playback does not depend on the classroom computer staying on. |
| Looping and playlists | OBS Media Source can repeat a file; its VLC Video source can play a playlist. VLC must be installed to use that source. | Capabilities vary by service. Verify playlist, looping and scheduling behavior with the provider. |
| Interruption recovery | An operator needs to notice and recover from problems with OBS, the computer, files, network or YouTube connection. | Recovery behavior is provider-specific. Confirm what happens if YouTube disconnects the stream and what support is included. |
| Files and access | You control the local files, but still need to manage who can access the computer and channel. | Check storage, access controls, retention, export options and where recordings are stored before uploading school material. |
| 24/7 replay | Plan for the limits of YouTube’s automatic archive guidance; do not assume one uninterrupted day-long stream will produce one intact automatic replay. | The same YouTube archive limit matters. A cloud service does not by itself change YouTube’s archive behavior. |
| Cost and terms | No OBS-specific service price is established here; account for any equipment, power, internet and staffing costs your setup entails. | Compare current price, storage, channel concurrency, support and contract terms directly with providers. A fair current price or reliability comparison between named services is not established here. |
OBS documents local media playback and looping in its Media Sources guide. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded YouTube videos. That directory description is not an endorsement or a performance assessment. OneStream Live describes prerecorded-video scheduling and continuous streaming in its vendor material; those descriptions do not establish uptime, price, privacy assurances or contract terms.
Loop prerecorded lessons with OBS
OBS offers two relevant source types. Use Media Source for one file that should repeat. Use VLC Video when you need a playlist. These are documented OBS capabilities; the exact performance of a particular school computer and network depends on that setup.

Option 1: repeat one video with Media Source
- Open OBS and select the scene that should carry the lesson.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source.
- Give the source a recognizable name, then select the video file on the computer.
- Enable the source’s Loop property so playback starts again when the file ends.
- Check the preview and audio before going live. Keep the media file accessible to the computer running OBS.
OBS lists supported video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. See the OBS Media Sources documentation for the current source details.
Option 2: loop a playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS requires it for the VLC Video source.
- In the OBS Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video.
- Add the lesson files to the source’s playlist in the intended playback order.
- Leave Loop Playlist on to repeat the playlist. OBS documents this as on by default; Shuffle Playlist is off by default.
- Preview the playlist and check that the sequence and audio are suitable for unattended playback.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream setup and use the YouTube Live server URL and stream key provided for the stream.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose the YouTube connection method available in your OBS version, and enter the server details and stream key if prompted.
- Protect the stream key as a password. Anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for connection and encoding settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, describes it as a secure extension to RTMP, and recommends a two-second keyframe frequency that should not exceed four seconds. Its guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 options, along with constant bitrate encoding. Confirm that your encoder supports the selected options before going live.
- Run a private or unlisted check where appropriate, confirm picture and sound, and then start the broadcast. YouTube says first-time live streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours.
Current settings and codec support can change. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions page and the options shown by your encoder rather than assuming every configuration applies to every setup.

What 24/7 operation requires from a local setup
Keep the full playback chain available
OBS is only one part of a local broadcast. The computer must remain powered and running OBS; the media files must remain available; and the network connection must be usable. A restart, software update, power interruption, internet outage or encoder failure can interrupt the stream. A local workflow makes sense when someone at the school can monitor those dependencies and take responsibility for recovery.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA dedicated computer may be one way to separate streaming from everyday classroom use, but there is no minimum hardware specification established here. Check the needs of your actual video files, OBS configuration and network instead of treating a particular computer model as required.

Assign monitoring and recovery
Decide who checks that playback is continuing, who can access the YouTube channel and OBS computer, and what that person should do if the broadcast stops. Without an assigned operator or a tested recovery procedure, a loop setting alone does not make the whole stream self-managing.
Plan YouTube archives separately from continuous playback
YouTube Help states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” The statement applies to streams under the stated limit. It is not a promise that one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will yield one intact automatic replay. Design the replay workflow around that distinction: decide whether to end and restart broadcasts within the stated limit, retain the original lesson files separately, or use another school-approved way to publish recordings.

Confirm the current behavior and channel options in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance before relying on an archive for students. Continuous live viewing and a usable recording afterward are separate outcomes.
Classroom recording checks before going live
Technical setup does not settle whether a lesson is appropriate to upload or broadcast. School policy, jurisdiction, student identifiability and account configuration are not specified here, so do not assume that a public or unlisted stream automatically meets your institution’s requirements.
- Confirm consent and recording permissions for everyone who can be identified in the video or audio.
- Choose the audience and YouTube privacy settings deliberately; verify them in the channel account before starting the stream.
- Confirm that the school owns or is authorized to use the lesson materials, including music, images, clips and other third-party content. YouTube’s copyright rules still apply to prerecorded material.
- Set clear ownership for the YouTube account and stream key, and limit access to staff who need it.
- Review retention, access controls and deletion procedures for both local files and any files uploaded to a cloud provider.
- Check applicable institutional rules and any provider contract before putting classroom recordings in a service.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos and playlists. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The computer at school does not have to stay on. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo says it does not re-encode the upload. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, and the same features on every plan; only the billing length changes. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Check the service and current plan details at StreamNeo.
For a school deciding between a local setup and StreamNeo, the practical differences are that nothing at home or in the classroom has to stay on, any quality up to 4K 60fps is included at one price, automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Review your school’s privacy and purchasing requirements before uploading classroom material. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
Quick Recap
Common problems and what to check
The stream does not start
- Check that YouTube live streaming is enabled for the channel; YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Verify that OBS has the correct YouTube server details and current stream key. If the key was reset, update the encoder.
- Check the connection mode and encoder options against YouTube’s current guidance, including RTMPS where supported.
The video stops at the end instead of repeating
- For a single Media Source, check that Loop is enabled.
- For a VLC Video source, check that the playlist contains the intended files and Loop Playlist is on. Confirm VLC is installed.
The broadcast goes offline unexpectedly
- On OBS, check whether the computer slept, OBS stopped, the media file became unavailable or the network disconnected. Restore the missing dependency, then reconnect through YouTube and OBS.
- For a cloud service, check the provider’s documented recovery behavior and support process. Do not assume every service handles a YouTube disconnect the same way.
The picture, sound or playback order is wrong
- Preview the file or playlist before the broadcast and verify the source order, audio and scene layout.
- Check that the chosen encoder settings are supported by both your encoder and YouTube’s current instructions.
- If the upload contains copyrighted or unauthorized material, changing streaming settings will not resolve the rights issue; review permissions before broadcasting.
