If your OBS playlist will not move to the next video, first check which source is in the scene: Media Source plays one file, while VLC Video is OBS’s documented source for multi-file playlists. In VLC Video properties, confirm the playlist and order, then check Loop Playlist, Shuffle Playlist, and visibility behavior. A YouTube player’s repeat control does not change the playlist OBS is sending to your stream.
First identify what is supposed to advance
In the OBS scene that feeds your stream, select the source and check its type in the source list or properties. OBS distinguishes a single-file Media Source from VLC Video, which supports a playlist. If you expected several videos to play but selected Media Source, its Loop option can repeat that one file; it will not advance through a multi-file playlist. Fix a VLC Video playlist that does not advance
- Open the correct scene and source. In OBS, select the scene used for the stream, then open the VLC Video source’s properties. Make sure you are editing the source that is actually in that scene.
- Verify the playlist items and order. Check that the intended files are listed and arranged in the sequence you expect. A playlist can only advance to the next item if that item is present in the source’s playlist.
- Check Loop Playlist. OBS describes this setting as specifying whether the source should restart after it runs out of media files. It controls what happens after the playlist ends; it does not by itself explain why a current item appears stuck. The OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation, published January 11, 2022, documents the setting.
- Turn off Shuffle Playlist while diagnosing order. Shuffle changes the playback order, so disable it if you are checking whether OBS moves sequentially from one item to the next. Re-enable it only if randomized order is what you intend.
- Check Visibility Behaviour. If playback stops or restarts when you change scenes or hide the source, inspect its visibility behavior. OBS documents stop/restart, pause/unpause, and always-play choices; select the one that matches how your scenes are meant to work.
If VLC Video is missing from the source list
VLC Video depends on VLC being installed. OBS says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC; its documentation lists VLC Video for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS, then reopen OBS and check the source list again. The OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation covers this dependency.
An optional software alternative is the OBS forum resource Media Playlist Source. Its resource listing was last dated August 8, 2023, and lists OBS Studio 30.0.0 as its minimum version and Windows, macOS, and Linux as supported platforms. Compatibility may have changed, so check the current listing before installing it. It is an alternative to investigate, not a guaranteed fix for every playlist problem.

Separate an OBS playback issue from a YouTube playback issue
Compare the OBS preview or program output with the YouTube live playback at the same moment. If OBS itself is not moving to the next item, return to the source type, playlist, loop, shuffle, and visibility settings. If OBS advances but the YouTube viewer’s playback appears frozen, the symptom is on the delivery or viewer-playback side rather than proof that the local playlist needs a different loop setting. YouTube’s repeat control is for watching a video or playlist in YouTube, not for configuring the OBS source.
When OBS is advancing locally but the stream is unstable, inspect OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frame count. OBS’s Help Portal says increasing dropped frames and a yellow or red connection indicator point to an unstable connection to the streaming service or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. This is a separate problem from whether the playlist is configured to loop.
