First verify the YouTube ingest URL and stream key, then isolate OBS, your computer and home network, and finally compare Airtel with another network. That sequence helps identify where the failure occurs without treating a hotspot test as proof of an Airtel policy.
Start with the error OBS reports
Before changing settings, note whether OBS says it failed to connect, times out, reports an SSL or certificate error, or connects but drops frames. A timeout can point to an incorrect URL or missing RTMPS support; an SSL error can involve the server name or port. Dropped frames and intermittent disconnections can instead indicate instability along the path to the ingest server. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance and the OBS connection troubleshooting guide.

Verify YouTube’s server URL and stream key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and copy the server URL and stream key shown for your stream.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select the YouTube service if applicable, then enter the copied server URL and stream key in their corresponding fields.
- Check the protocol spelling. For YouTube’s encrypted ingest, the URL should use
rtmps://, notrtmp://. The protocol and server should both be RTMPS. - If the encoder allows a port in the server URL, use port
443when YouTube’s configuration calls for it. Prefer the URL currently displayed in your own Live Control Room. - Keep the stream key private. Do not include it in screenshots, logs, or support posts.
OBS Studio’s service configuration lists these YouTube endpoints: primary rtmps://a.rtmps.youtube.com:443/live2 and backup rtmps://b.rtmps.youtube.com:443/live2?backup=1. Treat these as configuration examples, not a reason to override the URL in your Live Control Room; endpoint records can change as OBS updates. Check OBS network settings
- Open Settings → Advanced → Network in OBS.
- Leave Bind to IP on its default setting for the first test.
- If the computer may be choosing an unsuitable IPv4 or IPv6 route, try the IPv4-only option as a diagnostic. If it does not help, restore the default.
- On Windows, OBS also recommends testing its Network Optimizations and TCP pacing options. Test these individually and return to the prior setting if there is no improvement.
These are troubleshooting comparisons, not universal performance settings. For details, follow the OBS guide.
Isolate VPN, firewall and security software
- VPN: Temporarily disconnect it and retry. If OBS connects without the VPN, the VPN path may be involved; that does not identify the exact cause.
- Firewall or antivirus: Check whether security software is blocking OBS or inspecting its network traffic. If disabling protection briefly is necessary to test, do so cautiously, restore it immediately, and use a targeted OBS exception only if the test points to that software.
A result that changes with one of these tests is evidence about that part of the route, not proof that Airtel is responsible.

Test the router and physical connection
- Restart the modem or router, then test again.
- If you are on Wi-Fi, connect by Ethernet where practical and retry with the same OBS settings.
- Check the cable and connections. If you suspect a fault, try another cable.
- For one test, remove unnecessary switches or Wi-Fi extenders between the computer and router.
OBS lists modems, routers, cables, network cards, switches and extenders among possible points of failure. An Ethernet cable is useful only as a test or replacement for a suspect local cable; it will not fix a wrong URL, an ingest-server issue or an ISP routing problem.
Compare Airtel with another network
If possible, keep the computer, OBS configuration and stream settings unchanged, then retry on a phone hotspot or another ISP. You can also test the YouTube backup endpoint if it is available in your setup. Record whether each endpoint and network succeeds.

- If the same setup fails on Airtel and another network, revisit the URL, OBS and local-device checks.
- If it works repeatedly on a hotspot but fails on Airtel, an Airtel-path issue becomes more plausible, but the comparison does not establish whether the cause is routing, congestion, a local network condition or something else.
- If only one endpoint fails, note that distinction when you seek support; it narrows the comparison but does not settle the cause.
The OBS Project guide explains that network issues between a computer and an ingest server can produce dropped frames or intermittent disconnections, and recommends contacting the ISP when local checks do not resolve the problem. The reviewed sources do not establish a current Airtel-specific block or outage for YouTube RTMPS.

- Failure times and your city or locality, plus your plan details.
- The exact OBS error and an OBS log, with the stream key removed or obscured.
- Whether you tested the primary or backup endpoint, and which one failed.
- Whether Ethernet and Wi-Fi behaved differently.
- Whether the same computer and OBS setup worked over a hotspot or another ISP.
This is a practical evidence list, not a published Airtel support requirement. A failure alone cannot establish that Airtel blocks YouTube RTMPS; diagnosis may depend on the route and conditions at the time.

Do not start by forwarding router ports
OBS makes an outbound connection to YouTube’s ingest server. The reviewed YouTube guidance points to the correct RTMPS URL and, where supported, port 443. Inbound port forwarding is not an established remedy for this encoder-to-ingest connection problem.
