For a cautious first test on BSNL broadband, stream your YouTube playlist from OBS at 720p30 using H.264, CBR, a video bitrate of about 3,000–4,000 kbps, AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps, and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends 3 Mbps for H.264 live ingestion at 720p30; the higher end of the suggested test range is not a BSNL-specific guarantee. Measure your usable upload and test the actual playlist before relying on the stream.
Start with a stable 720p30 configuration
For mostly static slides, text, devotional imagery, or slowly moving visuals, 720p at 30 frames per second is a sensible first test. Use these OBS settings as a starting point, not as a claim that every BSNL connection can sustain them:

- Output resolution: 1280×720
- Frame rate: 30 fps
- Video codec: H.264
- Rate control: CBR
- Video bitrate: about 3,000–4,000 kbps
- Audio: AAC stereo at 128 kbps
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendation for live ingestion at 720p30 is 3 Mbps. A particular BSNL line may need a lower rate if its upload varies, is congested, or shares capacity with other household traffic. Faster-moving playlist content can benefit from more bitrate, but raise it only after a stable test with no growing dropped-frame count.

The figures below are YouTube’s platform recommendations for H.264 live ingestion, not measured results for BSNL broadband. YouTube also publishes minimum bitrate recommendations; meeting a minimum does not establish that a particular connection can sustain a stream reliably. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

For live streaming, YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video, up to 60 fps. It recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe frequency (which must not exceed four seconds), 128 kbps stereo audio, and Rec. 709 for SDR. H.264 with AAC stereo and RTMPS, where available, is a broadly compatible first configuration. These are live-ingest settings; do not substitute YouTube’s separate recommendations for uploading prerecorded video.
Set up OBS for the playlist
- Connect OBS to YouTube: Open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube, then enter the stream key shown in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel. OBS documents this setup in its streaming guide.
- Set output bitrates: In Settings → Output, select the streaming video bitrate and audio bitrate. Set video rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to two seconds. The appropriate bitrate depends on sustained upload capacity and the streaming service’s limits; OBS explains the relevant settings in its quick start guide.
- Set the scaled stream resolution: In Settings → Video, set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720 and Common FPS Value to 30. OBS distinguishes scaled output from the canvas resolution, so check the output value rather than assuming the canvas setting controls the stream.
- Run a representative test: Start a private or unlisted YouTube stream using the same playlist, audio, and motion you intend to broadcast. Watch YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators. YouTube recommends testing with similar movement and audio before an event.
Choose a bitrate that your BSNL upload can sustain
There is no single upload speed or safe bitrate for every BSNL Broadband or Bharat Fiber subscriber. The usable upload varies with plan, location, access technology, Wi-Fi conditions, congestion, and time of day. An advertised download speed does not tell you how much upload capacity is available for a continuous stream.

Measure at the time you plan to broadcast
Run a speed test over the connection and at roughly the time the playlist will be live. Treat the result as a snapshot, not proof of a stable long-duration upload. A private test to YouTube with the real playlist gives more useful evidence about the path you will actually use.
Leave room for variation and other traffic
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when setting a bitrate to address connection trouble. This is troubleshooting guidance, not a BSNL guarantee. Treat it as an initial ceiling, leaving capacity for audio, protocol overhead, and other devices; if upload speed fluctuates, choose less. See OBS’s dropped-frames guidance.

Step down when the connection struggles
If OBS shows dropped frames or YouTube stream health worsens, first reduce the video bitrate. If the stream still struggles, lower output resolution or frame rate from 720p30 and test again. Choose the highest configuration that passes a sustained test with headroom, considering playlist motion and measured upload stability—not the advertised broadband speed alone.
Troubleshoot dropped frames and unstable streaming
| Symptom | Likely issue to check | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube stream health degrades | The upload may not sustain the selected bitrate, or available capacity may be varying. | Lower the video bitrate first. If necessary, step down resolution or frame rate, then run another representative test. |
| A speed test looks fast, but the stream still drops frames | A speed test is a short snapshot; it does not prove sustained performance to YouTube’s ingest path. | Test at broadcast time, use the actual playlist, and leave more upload headroom. |
| 720p30 remains unstable at the suggested starting rate | The reliable upload may be below the bitrate needed for that configuration. | Reduce bitrate and, if needed, output resolution or frame rate. Retest rather than relying on a nominal speed result. |
| Playback looks soft or blocky during motion | The bitrate may be low for the amount of movement, or the connection may constrain higher-quality settings. | If the upload remains stable and OBS shows no accumulating dropped frames, test a modestly higher bitrate. Otherwise use the stable lower setting. |
| OBS is configured but YouTube does not receive the stream | Check the selected YouTube service, stream key, and Live Control Room status. | Confirm the key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and re-enter it in Settings → Stream if needed. Never share the key publicly. |
Keep playlist rights and YouTube rules in view
Technical stability does not establish that a playlist is permitted to stream. Use recordings, music, images, and other material you own or are licensed to broadcast, and review YouTube’s current live-streaming encoder and policy guidance alongside its applicable copyright rules. A playlist of prerecorded material must also comply with YouTube’s channel policies; merely looping a video does not make it original or grant broadcasting rights.
