Choose an OBS plugin built for the architecture and OBS version of the OBS installation you actually run. A 32-bit plugin is not automatically better or more compatible than a 64-bit one; the plugin must support your OBS build and operating system. For a dedicated streaming PC, check those details before installing a plugin or updating OBS.
Does an OBS plugin have to match 32-bit or 64-bit?
Yes: match the plugin to the architecture of the OBS process it is meant to work with, and confirm that the plugin supports your OBS version and platform. OBS’s Plugins Guide identifies platform, architecture and OBS-version compatibility as possible causes of plugin incompatibility. The installed PC’s operating system alone does not establish which OBS build is running.

There is no general rule that 32-bit plugins are better for streaming, or that a 64-bit plugin will work with every OBS installation. Check the plugin author’s documentation or release notes for the supported platform, architecture and OBS versions. OBS’s current download page lists version 32.2.2 and Windows 10 and 11 support, but its retrieved Windows listing does not state the installer’s architecture. See the official OBS download page and verify your own installation rather than assuming its bitness from Windows.

What to check before installing a plugin
- Identify the OBS build in use. Check the installed OBS application or build information and establish its platform and architecture. Do not infer the OBS process architecture just from whether the PC runs a 64-bit operating system.
- Read the plugin’s current release notes. Confirm that its download is for your operating system and architecture, and that the author supports your installed OBS version.
- Check OBS-version compatibility separately. Architecture matching is not enough. A plugin that has not been updated for your OBS release may fail to work. OBS Studio 32.0 release notes say OBS will no longer load plugins built for a newer OBS release to prevent compatibility issues. Read the OBS Studio 32.0 release notes.
- Use the plugin’s documented installation method. OBS’s guide covers plugin compatibility and locations; follow the plugin author’s instructions for the specific build rather than copying files into an assumed folder. OBS Plugins Guide.
Why OBS version matters on a dedicated streaming PC
OBS plugins are commonly dynamic libraries loaded when OBS starts. Newer OBS versions can require a plugin to be recompiled, so an OBS update can break a previously working plugin even when the architecture has not changed. OBS explains this in its Developer Guide.

For a PC that runs scheduled or continuous streams, treat OBS and its plugins as a versioned setup. Before updating OBS, record the working OBS and plugin versions, review plugin release notes, and test the full scene, audio and video chain before relying on the new setup for a broadcast. This is a precaution based on OBS’s compatibility guidance, not a guarantee that a particular update will cause a problem.
Does 32-bit versus 64-bit change streaming performance?
Plugin bitness is a compatibility question, not a stream-performance setting. OBS says CPU requirements depend on the encoder, output resolution, frame rate and scene complexity; meeting its basic system requirements does not guarantee that a computer can handle a particular streaming workload. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then validate the settings with the actual scenes and stream workload. OBS system requirements.

OBS Studio 32.2 release notes state that the minimum supported driver version is 570 in the context of an NVIDIA SDK update. This is a release-specific note for the affected NVIDIA functionality, not a universal driver requirement for all OBS installations. OBS Studio 32.2 release notes.
Keep a dedicated PC streaming when OBS is not running at home
If you want to use OBS on the dedicated PC, the compatibility checks above are the relevant answer: select a plugin that supports the OBS architecture, platform and version in use, then test the complete setup before an important broadcast.
