RTX Spark is a new NVIDIA–Microsoft PC platform for Windows laptops and compact desktops, designed around local AI agents and powered by NVIDIA Blackwell RTX graphics and a Grace CPU. NVIDIA said on October 2, 2026, that RTX Spark Windows PCs from several manufacturers are coming during October. That is a company-stated timeframe, not confirmation of a specific model’s sale date, price or stock.

What is RTX Spark?

RTX Spark is a platform for Windows PCs that combines an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with a 20-core NVIDIA Grace CPU. NVIDIA says MediaTek collaborated on the custom CPU design. The companies describe the hardware as a foundation for laptops and compact desktop PCs, rather than a single computer model. NVIDIA’s May 31 announcement and Microsoft’s account describe up to 128GB of unified memory and up to one petaflop of AI performance.

NVIDIA lists 6,144 CUDA cores, fifth-generation Tensor Cores with FP4 precision, and a high-speed NVLink-C2C connection. These are specifications and performance figures published by the companies in 2026, not independent test results. Microsoft’s separate Dev Box announcement says its one-petaflop figure is based on theoretical FP4 TOPS using sparsity.

Why local AI agents are central to the announcement

The software pitch is to let AI agents do more work on the PC itself, while giving users controls over what those agents can access or send elsewhere. NVIDIA says its OpenShell software will let users set policies for agent actions, route queries to local models according to privacy policies, and disguise personal information in queries sent to cloud services. The companies also describe Windows security primitives as part of the approach. These are announced capabilities, not the findings of an independent security audit.

NVIDIA and Microsoft say agents could perform tasks in Windows apps, work across apps, create images and video, write code, and search local files. NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang called the shift a reinvention of the PC; Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said RTX Spark marks progress toward that vision. Those statements are company-release framing, not independent assessments.

What workloads do NVIDIA and Microsoft say it can handle?

NVIDIA positions RTX Spark for local AI development, creative work and gaming. Its May 2026 announcement gives examples including rendering 90GB 3D scenes, editing 12K 4:2:2 video, running language models with 120 billion parameters and up to one million tokens of context, and gaming at 1440p above 100 frames per second. These are vendor-published workload claims; the cited launch material does not provide independent benchmark results or establish the settings and conditions for each example.

When do RTX Spark laptops and PCs come out?

NVIDIA’s September 3, 2026, IFA post said RTX Spark PCs would arrive in October. On October 2, NVIDIA still described new Windows PCs powered by RTX Spark as “coming this month.” This supports an October 2026 company-stated timeframe, but does not establish an exact retail date, that a particular configuration is shipping, or whether it is in stock. The announcements reviewed do not give confirmed prices.

What is the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box?

The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is a separately named compact developer desktop, not a generic name for all RTX Spark PCs. Microsoft describes it as a prerelease product planned for later in 2026 in the United States, with sale and delivery contingent on regulatory requirements. That schedule is separate from NVIDIA’s October timeframe for RTX Spark Windows PCs generally; Microsoft’s announcement does not confirm a Dev Box retail date or price.

How is RTX Spark different from NVIDIA DGX Spark?

RTX Spark refers here to NVIDIA-powered Windows laptops and compact PCs developed with Microsoft. DGX Spark is a separate product name that NVIDIA discusses independently; the cited October 2 post is titled around DGX Spark, while also saying RTX Spark Windows PCs are coming that month. The announcements do not establish that the two names describe the same product or role, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.

What is confirmed—and what remains open

  • Announced: a Windows PC platform built around a Blackwell RTX GPU and Grace CPU, with MediaTek contributing to custom CPU design, and local AI agents as a headline use case.
  • Company claims, not independent tests: core, memory, AI-compute, gaming and creative-workload figures published by NVIDIA and Microsoft.
  • Not established in the cited announcements: exact general retail dates, prices, model-by-model configurations, stock status, or independent performance and security results.

For the platform description and original claims, see NVIDIA’s announcement, Microsoft’s Windows post, and NVIDIA GeForce’s RTX Spark overview. NVIDIA’s timing updates appeared in its September IFA post and October 2 update; Microsoft’s Dev Box details are in its Surface RTX Spark Dev Box announcement.
