Compare the complete platforms against the same workload—not headline GPU counts or peak figures. NVIDIA DGX combines systems, software, and deployment expertise; AMD pairs Instinct accelerators with the ROCm software stack. Their published examples describe different system scales, so neither a memory total nor a performance claim alone identifies the better choice for your models, latency targets, or budget.
Start by matching system scale
A rack-scale NVIDIA DGX configuration is not automatically comparable to an eight-GPU AMD platform. First define the scope of the purchase: accelerators, servers or rack, networking, software, deployment, and support. Then compare equivalent scopes and the number of accelerators your workload will actually use.

| Platform example | Vendor-stated configuration | Memory and bandwidth figures | What the figures describe |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA DGX GB200 | Liquid-cooled rack with 36 GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips, 36 Grace CPUs, and 72 Blackwell GPUs. Each Superchip combines one Grace CPU and two Blackwell GPUs. | Up to 13.4 TB HBM3e GPU memory; up to 576 TB/s aggregate memory bandwidth. NVIDIA also lists 1.8 TB/s GPU-to-GPU bandwidth per GB200 Superchip through fifth-generation NVLink. | Vendor specifications for the defined rack configuration. The NVLink figure is per Superchip; the memory figures are for the rack. NVIDIA DGX GB200 |
| NVIDIA DGX GB300 | 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs and 36 Grace CPUs. | 20 TB GPU memory; up to 576 TB/s memory bandwidth. | Vendor product specifications for DGX GB300, which NVIDIA positions for training, post-training, and test-time inference. NVIDIA DGX GB300 |
| AMD Instinct MI350X Platform | Eight MI350X OAM GPUs in an industry-standard UBB 2.0 data-center platform. | 2.3 TB total HBM3E across the platform; 8.0 TB/s memory bandwidth per OAM. | AMD lists these specifications for the eight-GPU platform and gives a launch date of June 12, 2025. Confirm the scope and configuration of any quoted system. AMD MI350X Platform |
These are not like-for-like totals: the examples differ in accelerator count and system scope, and some figures are per accelerator or chip package while others describe a full platform or rack. Use them to understand each vendor’s stated configuration, not to infer which will run a particular model faster.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck whether the model fits—and how it will be divided
Total memory can affect whether a model and its working data fit without offload, but system totals do not tell you usable memory per accelerator or the memory available to your application. For the exact configuration under consideration, ask for usable per-accelerator and aggregate memory, memory reserved by the system, and the sharding or parallelism strategy required by your model.

- Test the model at the intended parameter count, sequence length, batch size, and concurrency.
- Check whether weights, activations, optimizer state, and serving cache fit in the planned configuration.
- Record whether the test uses offload, sharding, or other memory-saving techniques; these can change throughput and latency.
- Compare the numerical format actually used in deployment. FP4, FP8, FP16, sparse, and dense results are not interchangeable.
Compare communication at your intended scale
For multi-accelerator training and inference, performance depends on communication as well as compute and memory. NVIDIA lists fifth-generation NVLink and 1.8 TB/s GPU-to-GPU bandwidth per GB200 Superchip. That is a vendor specification for communication within the Superchip; it does not, by itself, establish end-to-end performance across a rack or cluster.
For each proposed configuration, verify the full topology: accelerator links within a node, connections between nodes, network adapters and fabric, and the software’s collective-operation support. Benchmark at the node count you plan to deploy. A workload with frequent synchronization or large exchanges between accelerators can scale differently from one that keeps most work local.
Validate the software path, not just the platform name
NVIDIA describes DGX as a combination of infrastructure, software, and expertise, and NVIDIA AI Enterprise publishes a support matrix for accelerated platforms. Supported systems and deployment conditions depend on the release and configuration; check the exact entry for the system and software version you intend to run in the AI Enterprise 7.8 support matrix. NVIDIA’s DGX Platform overview describes its broader platform approach.

AMD describes ROCm as a software stack of programming models, tools, compilers, libraries, and runtimes for AI and HPC workloads targeting Instinct GPUs. That description does not establish support or equal maturity for every framework, model, or feature. Check the specific software versions and applications you plan to deploy against AMD’s Instinct MI350 Series overview.
For either vendor, validate the whole path you will use:
- Framework and version, required operators, kernels, and libraries.
- Model recipes, fine-tuning code, and precision modes.
- Compiler and runtime versions, plus the model-serving stack.
- Orchestration, monitoring, observability, and support coverage.
- Any deployment constraints or system requirements in the applicable support terms.
Benchmark the work you need to do
Vendor specifications describe a product; vendor performance claims may use different data types, sparsity assumptions, systems, or comparison baselines. AMD’s MI350 series materials include vendor calculations or theoretical claims, not neutral head-to-head results. Review their stated methods and assumptions in the MI350 technical brief and MI350 infographic; do not treat those claims as a substitute for a matched test.

Use the same model, workload, success criteria, and test conditions on each candidate platform. Include a representative mix of training, fine-tuning, batch inference, or latency-sensitive serving as relevant to your deployment.
- Define the job. Record model, dataset, sequence length, batch size, concurrency, target output quality, and acceptable latency or time to completion.
- Fix the test conditions. Specify precision, sparsity, software versions, node and accelerator counts, power conditions, and any offload or sharding.
- Measure the useful outcome. Track throughput or end-to-end latency alongside errors, utilization, and whether the system meets the quality target.
- Test scaling. Repeat at the intended deployment size and record scaling efficiency; a single-accelerator result does not establish rack- or cluster-level performance.
- Keep the configuration with the result. Document hardware, topology, software versions, and method so another team can reproduce the comparison.
No independent named statistical study or neutral head-to-head benchmark is established by the cited materials. Treat vendor specifications and claims as vendor evidence, and base a platform decision on matched tests for your own workloads.
Include operations and full cost in the decision
Ask suppliers or authorized system integrators for equivalent, region-specific proposals. The cited official product pages do not provide a matched acquisition-price or lead-time comparison, so those terms need to be obtained directly. Ensure both quotes cover the same scope:
- Accelerators, server or rack, networking, and system integration.
- Power delivery, cooling, rack space, and deployment requirements.
- Software and support terms, service coverage, and operating responsibilities.
- Delivery schedule and any required deployment or support services.
Then compare throughput or latency per total cost at your expected utilization, including hardware, networking, power, cooling, software support, and operations. A lower acquisition quote is not necessarily the less expensive platform to operate for the workload you need.
