Yes, the Nuki Keypad 2 NFC supports Apple Home Key, but the tap-to-unlock experience depends on which mode you choose. Nuki’s Smart Home Mode requires a compatible lock integrated with Apple Home through Matter and a supported Apple home hub; its App Mode works without a hub but requires you to unlock your iPhone before tapping. The keypad also offers fingerprint and access-code entry, so it is not limited to phone-based access.

The Keypad 2 NFC is an accessory for a compatible Nuki Smart Lock, not a standalone lock. Nuki lists Smart Lock Ultra, Smart Lock Pro (5th Generation), Smart Lock Go and Smart Lock (4th Generation) as compatible models when running the latest firmware. Check Nuki’s current Smart Home Mode setup and compatibility guidance before buying or setting it up, since models and software requirements can change.

How Apple Home Key works with the keypad
Nuki documents two Tap to Unlock modes. Choose between them based on whether you want tap access to work through a smart-home ecosystem or prefer to avoid buying a hub.

Nuki says the two modes cannot be used together. Its Smart Home Mode setup instructions also say the phone and hub should be on the same Wi-Fi network during setup.
Apple Home Smart Home Mode requirements
For Apple Home Key through Smart Home Mode, Nuki lists an iPhone XS or later running iOS 18.6 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 11.6 or later. Nuki’s listed Apple hubs are Apple TV 4K (3rd generation, 128 GB), Apple TV 4K (2nd generation with Thread), HomePod (2nd generation) and HomePod mini. Requirements are version-sensitive, so confirm the current list before purchase or setup.

Once the compatible lock is integrated into Apple Home via Matter, the smart-home ecosystem manages users. A hub is therefore necessary for this mode, but not for all NFC tapping: App Mode is the hub-free alternative.

Nuki also documents Smart Home Mode through Samsung SmartThings. Its current setup guidance lists Android 14/U or later, current Samsung Wallet and SmartThings app versions, and compatible hubs including SmartThings Hub v3, SmartThings Station, Aeotec SmartThings Hub and Aeotec SmartThings Hub 2. Check Nuki’s linked compatibility guidance for the particular Samsung phone and hub you plan to use; the listed requirements may change.

Other ways to unlock: fingerprints and codes
Home Key is only one entry method. Nuki’s product page lists capacity for up to 20 fingerprints and up to 200 time-limited access codes. These manufacturer-listed maximums are not an independent test of day-to-day performance.

Nuki’s March 24, 2026 launch announcement additionally says the keypad can store up to 35 Tap-to-Unlock keys. The product page available for this article lists code and fingerprint capacities but does not independently corroborate that tap-key figure, so treat it as a launch-release specification.

What happens if your iPhone battery runs out?
Nuki says Apple power reserve can keep Home Key available for up to five hours after an iPhone battery drains naturally, provided Express Mode is enabled. That reserve does not work if the phone is switched off, and Nuki App Mode has no power reserve. A fingerprint or code provides an alternative that does not rely on the phone.

Nuki says the keypad can be mounted with adhesive strips or screws. Its product page claims up to 12 months of maintenance-free operation and an IP54 rating for protection against dust and splashes or rain. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified test results; actual battery life and exposure tolerance are not established here.
