Choose Notion if you want project tracking to live alongside team docs and knowledge in flexible databases. Choose Asana if your priority is structured task ownership, schedules, reporting, and coordination across projects. Neither is a universal winner: the right fit depends on your workflow and which plan includes the features you need.
How the two tools organize work
Notion connects projects with documentation
Notion uses configurable databases and pages for project work. Teams can keep project details near docs and wikis, then shape a database with custom status and priority properties, filters, and layouts. Its project features include tasks and subtasks, assignees, due dates, calendar and board views, timelines, charts, dependencies, forms, and automations. See Notion’s project feature overview.

This model can suit teams that want project records and reference material in one workspace. It also puts more emphasis on configuring the workspace around the team’s practices.

Asana centers work on tasks and shared projects
Asana organizes team work around tasks in shared projects. Its project features include task owners and due dates, custom sections and fields, templates, multiple views, forms, rules, status updates, and reporting dashboards, with availability depending on plan. Asana says a task can appear in up to 20 projects, with updates synced across those instances—a useful option for work that belongs to more than one team or initiative. Can Notion and Asana work together?
Yes. Asana’s integration listings describe a Notion connection that can show Asana link previews and sync project or task data into a Notion database. The other direction allows Notion pages to be attached to Asana tasks and rules to create Notion pages when a trigger occurs. This can support a split workflow: manage task execution in Asana and make selected documentation or context accessible in Notion. The listings do not establish that every field or workflow syncs, so verify the exact behavior before relying on it.

Questions to settle before choosing
- Does the team need a flexible workspace with documentation beside project tracking, or a task-centered system for coordinating execution?
- Which views, dependencies, forms, automations, or reports are essential—and which plan includes them?
- Do you need portfolio visibility, resource management, granular permissions, or administrative controls?
- Will a two-tool workflow reduce friction by keeping tasks and documentation where they belong, or create extra integration maintenance?
